Ok, I would hate doing the military the way Korea does it. I am also an opera singer, as Chuck, and i have a lot of korean male friends/colleagues who did it, and the stories they told me... hell nah. 2 years is way too long (especially if you are a musician, and then miss two years of practicing, competing, performing etc). 1. I would hate the lack of privacy: they all sleep in the same room, some of them basically on the floor (like namjoons unit), they all shower together, eat together, live together... now imagine 20 dudes in their 20s sleeping in the same room. It's enough that 3 of them snore and I am DYING. 2. They arent allowed to earn income while in the military, which ok makes sense cause you dont have time for anything else anyways, but that means you have 2 years of not earning ANY money, that means that when you have vacations from the military you are broke af or have to rely on your parents. For example, in your guys' case: you would have to pause all of your social media bc it would be income streams. Only the content you did before military would be "legal". 3. It's physically and mentally brutal, absolutely brutal. It depends a lot on the base and units etc, but not one friend I have had anything positive to say about it, they all absolutely hated it and hated that they had to go. I think bts members are very gracious about it, and also didn't share more than 10% of their experiences, and those that they did share deff made me raise my eyebrows. Joon being basically traumatised, Tae breaking his ribs and being told to "toughen up" once he realised he is losing hearing in his left ear, JK and Jimin having a bunch of scars, both of them having phases where they were struggling mentally a lot etc etc etc (Also all those funny stories of them doing extra stuff or going to religious service so they could get some bread? It's super cute and funny but then I am like... wait a minute, why are you going out of your way for BREAD? Arent yall getting bread on the daily, why is bread a treat?). I personally actually do like camps and routine and all that, and I think I would find it maybe interesting for a week, but the idea of losing 2 years of my life to it... no way.

2026-10-27 16:00 Guys I think being in the military is a lot more than js working out lol 😭😭 there is no freedom basically and from what it seems its mentally challenging. Jimin talked about how they had to train in the coldest weather in the mountains not showering for a week. Sure some people might like a routine but in normal life there is still a sense of choice. 🤷🏻‍♀️but idk

When I first watched this, I had to remember they were in the military and handled guns before because the way they were holding these fake rifles and looked so professional, I was really impressed. Now we know to send BTS if this was a real thing🤣

seb i'm wearing lightning mcqueen crocs watching this lol we're twinning

Charlie, no matter how much you think you’d like those kinds of things, you would not enjoy being in the military in Korea. Yes, maybe you could try to find some positive aspects of it, but I don’t think you’d actually "enjoy" it. And might I remind you of how bad RM and the members had it during their military service, with all the stories RM has shared, even though he was part of the military band? Koreans in general also say that military service in Korea is one of the worst experiences, so imagine having to go through that for two whole years. It’s not something you would enjoy. Even now the members can't stop talking about how nice it is to be out of the military

Mich 85

to comment on what charlie said about him enjoying the military by doing rm's route. rm's role was in a band but you have to remember he was stationed near north korea. and even if not near, war in north and south korea is an active war. that was a realization for me when our tour guide was telling us history as we went to the dmz. so it was not a walk in the park.

After taking an exam I probably failed, seeing this pop up has brightened my day, thank you guys!

2026-10-28 12:00 Been waiting for this yayy! Thanks guysss 😍 I'm always loving Run Jin Mondays!! 🥰 Y'all have to take note.. 2SEOK (Seokjin and Hoseok) these two are the only members who were elite soldiers during their service. They had to qualify and complete certain difficult exercises and challenges to be able to be elite soldiers 💪🏻💜 And yet here they are, running away from zombies 😆 Ahhh I love them so much! 🥰😍💜

Whenever I get the chance to rewatch these episodes , I’ll never miss it 😌😌

J-Lee

Just a gentle reminder that when Jin was discharged June 12th, he already performed the following day for ARMY for FESTA. He hugged 1,000 ARMYs, entertained, sang and played with ARMY to celebrate FESTA with us. He was sooooo nervous and shy 🥹💜

NABI

One of my favourite episodes

christina

I think i get what Charlie means about once you accept being put into a routine you just kind of adapt/deal with it. And to some extent, i feel like i'd be the same. Once i accept my reality, it's easier for me to just get on with what i have to do but yh, the military is rough 😭 I don't even have the capacity to imagine it but from the multiple stories i've heard, just adapting isn't enough. It takes a big toll on you mentally and physically 😭

Caroline.E

I love these episodes so I’m so excited! Thank you guys for reacting to both episodes at once!! 😁

Hi! As a Korean whose younger brother is currently serving in the military, I wanted to kindly clarify a few misunderstandings in your comment 🙂 First of all, modern military barracks have been significantly modernized, so soldiers no longer sleep in huge rooms with 20 people on the floor like in the past; they stay in smaller, updated rooms with proper beds. Also, while outside jobs aren't allowed, soldiers actually receive a monthly salary along with access to special high-interest savings accounts with government-matching funds. By the time they finish their service, most soldiers save up around 20 to 30 million KRW (approx. $15,000 to $22,500 USD), which many young men use after discharge to travel abroad, invest in stocks, or keep for their future. As for going to church for bread or snacks, it's definitely not because they are starved—they get plenty of meals, but it’s just a fun cultural meme where soldiers crave extra sweets after intense physical training! Military service is certainly tough and demanding, but the system and living conditions have updated a lot recently, so I just wanted to share the current reality.

Stella⁷

I think you forgot that tae's ear problem has got worser because of the military.. military in korea is not a joke guys! In Korea, to be exempted of military duty, you have to be either a woman, a foreigner, having a heavy criminals record or in other case having severe physical disability and thats sometimes makes people do outragous things to their body.. just to be exempted

Mimi

Charlie please be serious 😭…half the members didn’t even enjoy the military. Joon developed insomnia and Tae lost some hearing in his ear. Who knows what the other members experienced.

Stella⁷

yeahhh I think they forgot that tae's ear problem has got worser because of the military.. military in korea is not a joke guys!

Aabolee Mali

We need a show with just these 2 scaredy cats doing brave things 🤣🤣🤣 that would be hilarious.

Fee

Thank you for doing both episodes at the same time!

OT7LUVHARBINGER

BEST RUN JIN IN THE HISTORY OF RUN JIN BTW MS there is zero fun. First three months, special the first month, are gruesome. And don't forget they're not at peace, they were up north near the border. For RM was a nightmare it was in the worse place, hunted and sleeping over planks because there were no beds. Adding that there was a intent of coupe d'etat during their period for the impeached president trying to impose martial law. Don't even joke lad

J-Lee

Guyss if you want to see a bit of what Korean men do in military, there is a channel called KOREAN ENGLISHMAN and they did like 4-5 video episodes of British Students who tried to enter Korean military. It was such a great watch! 💜

TAMA

Thank you for that information.

Rinakin

That's super interesting! My friends are all in their early 30s, so they all went around 10 years ago. Did it get better in the recent years then? The two of them actually went to bases that were relatively close to North Korea, and they had those rooms where they all slept on the platforms with mattresses that they had to put on the floors each night. They didnt have beds. And the third friend served pretty close to Seoul, he said, and he did have the bed, so I guess his base was better. They would get around 150 USD per month back then, I remember them saying, depending on the rank. Which is crazy little imo.. But thats great that the conditions got better! I would still hate it though

Judy V⁷

100%. Especially as they are still technically at war with North Korea. A ceasefire was signed but they never agreed a treaty to end the war. North Korea could literally attack at any time. And I'm not talking about the balloons filled with rubbish they send to Seoul on a regular basis. It's no joke. The very reason they have mandatory military service is so they are prepared if North Korea attack. Even after their service finishes the guys will have to go back at least once a year for the next 8 years as a reserve to keep their training up to date. It's not just working out. It's a hell of a lot more serious than that.

rayna

im sick today, and this reaction was exactly what I needed. i loveee these eps

Angel

this is always so fun every single time!

Whits ⊙⊝⊜

I’ll just offer a couple more things about military time. I know you guys don't watch their lives where they share more details about things and you experienced mostly post-military. RM was in one of the worst barracks - very basic, sleeping on wood floors and freezing temps. That’s just RM. They all had basic training including gas attack training. North Korean ramped up actions in 2024. Also, in Dec 24 martial law was declared while the rest of the fellas were serving (I was so scared for them). I know you were speaking from your perspective and people do handle things differently. I do think compulsory is different but it is also something shared by most Korean men. Plus its a bit different when you're still technically at war with someone only about 50KM away from your capital.

Lela

My favourite episodes!!!

Bina⁷

Custody 😂

Gigi loves Jin

jin's screams genuinely were TERRIFYING omg cast this man in a horror kdrama rn

Emma💟

From what the members have shared during lives and through their songs, military service was definitely tough for them. And being idols on top of that must have made it even harder. In regards to Jin, there was even an incident with a nurse who visited Jin’s unit without authorization and administered a vaccine to him. All of that just to meet him. Like, how scary is that?

Britt⁷

I’m so excited for this reaction!

Breezy

Was waiting for this one, so good🥰💜 rm had really struggled in the military so I think its worse than just routine and structure for sure🫂

mikrokosmos .✦ ݁˖

Military service isn’t just about working out. The members struggled with mental health, suffered bone fractures and other injuries, and slept in tents during winter. That’s just a few examples

mikrokosmos .✦ ݁˖

I’m pretty sure Jin and Hobi filmed the Running Wild challenge on the same day

mikrokosmos .✦ ݁˖

The producers knew what they were doing when they picked horror content for this duo. There are compilations of BTS being scared, and like 95% is always Jin and Hobi 😭

karla adam

I love this episodes. The production team outdid themselves with this one. Run Jin has some pretty impressive episodes.

Whits ⊙⊝⊜

Yeah, I think a lot of the comments are bc he mentioned RM sho we know did not do well with the routine (& other than parts) and mentioned it specifically in the comeback doc

Brooke

guys the military isn’t summer school where u shoot guns for fun 😭 Rm may have been in a band but he was stationed near North Korea and has shared his issues with awful insomnia where he slept on the floor in freezing temps + tae has lost 30% of his hearing in one ear and that’s only what we’ve been told by 2 members I can’t imagine what else they went through maybe try and approach the topic with more empathy and awareness ☹️💗

Brooke

I forgot but in ays Jimin mentioned not being able to wash for days on certain tasks

Gigi loves Jin

wait lowkey twin hahahah i totally bombed my anatomy exam

Noco

Since Korea is a divided nation, mandatory service is an unavoidable reality 😌 My brother is currently serving on an island right next to North Korea, but even there, living conditions for soldiers get better every single year. They are currently transitioning to 4-person rooms. Just like how the service duration has gradually shortened over time through different administrations—it’s down to just 1 year and 6 months now—soldiers' salaries also increase every year. On top of that, they have on-base markets called PX, which sell items at extremely discounted prices. Soldiers often buy quality cosmetics there at very cheap rates as gifts for their mothers and sisters! Since most Korean men serve in the military, the pay cannot be extremely high unless you are a career soldier. But for context, as of 2026, while monthly pay increases with promotions as service time progresses, the average monthly salary is around 1.11 million KRW ($840 USD). If a soldier saves 550,000 KRW ($415 USD) each month into the military savings account, the government matches that exact same $415 + interest, allowing them to receive roughly 30 to 35 million KRW ( $22,500 to $26,500 USD) upon discharge. My brother said he's going to save this money for when he gets married 😙 As young people sacrifice their youth for the country, public awareness and voices regarding military welfare continue to grow, and conditions are constantly improving as it should be

Keke

One of my favorite episodes really 😂 I could watch this endlessly and still laugh my ass off every time at this duo 😂💜

Juana Quezada

Mine was Anthropology, but I will probably bomb my anatomy exam on Thursday 🤣

OutsaO

Holy 💩 I almost peed in my pants after they attacked Jin and poor Hobi just hiding in the closet 😭🤣🤯 so funny but also scary. I would scream my lungs out!!

mika

Actually the whole abandoned hospital set and games were custom-built and arranged as a production set for this Run Jin episode, which is crazy!

OutsaO

Seb: what a great t-shirt you have 🤗 my son loved Lightning McQueen movies and toys as a child 🥰

M.R.

Being in the military is no joke and can never be fun. V being in the Special Missions Team (equivalent to the US Military SWAT) trained so intensely that he actually dislocated and fractured a rib but due to the demanding nature of the SDT special forces, he apparently “pushed through the immense pain”. Not to mention that his hearing got worse in the military . But fans were so proud of him that Despite carrying injuries to his rib, shoulder, and foot, he continued his duties and went on to earn the prestigious title of "Elite Warrior" (Special Forces Warrior) due to his combat skills and ranking First Place overall in Marksmanship and First Place for Winter Urban Training (among his many military achievements including being Inducted in the SDT “Hall of Fame”) . RM also seem to have been traumatized as he doesn’t even want to bring up or talk about the military. It was mentioned that he hit rock bottom psychologically and suffered severe insomnia during his enlistment that he once went without sleep for 78 hours straight, making him highly sensitive to his sleeping environment.

OutsaO

Damn.. I won't get any sleep after this 😁😭

domi

someone put jin in a horror movie. his screams are so convincing

domi

2seok 💜

Ari

But in fact, Taehyung really enjoyed his time in the service, he adapted well, and he liked it after all

Ari

Guys, honestly, going into the military isn't just any experience. The guys there had a really tough time. However, people like Taehyung were able to adapt and in the end, he kind of liked it.

Ari

Also consider that Taehyung had a completely different experience, as he was in the special forces and learned a lot of extraordinary things.

JungkooksNose🌟

@Ari I think Tae learned a lot and adapted well during his time in the military, but I don't think he downright enjoyed being in the military, because if you like and enjoy doing something, wouldn't you want to do it again because you liked it? And I remember one weverse live with him and some of the members where they were talking about the military and saying no when asked if they would ever go back, and they were happy now that they were finally out. So I think there's a difference between Tae enjoying being in the military and him adapting well to it and doing well in the military

Butter Cup

Jin and Hobi will always be my favorite scaredy cat duo! 😂💜 Thanks for this reaction guys! 💜 That would've been fun to have a Halloween special from you guys! A vlog of you guys going to the scary escape room as Seb suggested 😂

Saha

these two eps were pure CINEMA thanks for all the laughs guys!

JVMONT

Okay Charlie. I think you may want to revisit what you just said. 🙂

Trs

Thank you for doing these in the same way ep 🤩🤩🤩

Simona-Elena 🦂

RM sought therapy and psychiatric help while he was in the military. In season 2 of ARE YOU SURE Jimin said he hopes their destination isn't scary or with guns, how they slept and trained outdoors in the mountains in the coldest weather and didn't shower for a week. North and South Korea are technically still at war, so they don't just work out. It's real stuff in rough conditions. I remember many of us were asking you guys to watch some of their lives where they talk about their experiences. I love you guys, but sometimes a little research before saying or assuming something helps a lot 💜

Blue

This takes me back to the first time that I saw this and loved watching it again with you guys and can't wait for the next episode of Run Jin

t

guys, the military in south korea is one of the most corrupt civilian institutions in the modern day. there is barely any media coverage on what happens, but what is exposed is inhumane. sexual assault, mistreatment and human degradation run RAMPANT in the miltary. the government is constantly putting out new schemes and media to present enlistment as 'fun' and nationalistic, but its genuinely a terrifying place. and im not saying bts wouldve had it worse than any other civiian, because everyone suffers, but bts themselves were violated/mistreated in there. seokjin had a vaccine injected in him unknowingly, and had to be checked by the hospital, namjoons base had inhumane conditions, and was one of the worst. he was also used as a government pawn, and the president visited his base (which he hadnt done in his run before) and took a photo with specifically namjoons camp to promote the military to society. taehyung developed permanent hearing issues, and was then goaded by his peers to 'deal with it' and take it like a man, jimin has refused to even acknowledge the military at times, namjoon developed severe insomnia and hes discussed his depression/mental health on weverse following military enlistment. also, celebs in general are usually preyed on in there because of their status, idols have been harassed during joint showers before. so much corruption takes place in the military, and a lot of young people are forced to endure it because the military is almost presented as an escape from financal issues at home. i get you guys are discussing it playfully and from personal perspectives, but i study international politics and i think people underestimate south koreas use of soft power and how they mobilise/subjugate their own people - dating back decades

Rubyyy

would they ever react t any other Kpop groups?

Jannes

Done watching!! It's one of my fave episodes of RUN JIN 💖😊 Waiting for JIN WICK episode but on honest note I always look forward for Mondays just to re-watch RUN JIN with you guys, all episodes are amazing. JIN really did well! 💜🥰

EuphoricLady Bish

They need to watch british highschoolers in korean military .. its korean englishman in youtube

Khaycee Estinopo

Yeaa. Understood. I was just sharing my thoughts but hearing what the members went through really puts things into perspective. I have so much respect for them and everything they endured 🥺💜

JungkooksNose🌟

Oh, ofc! I never doubted that any of you guys didn’t respect the members. Trust me, I know you love the members! So, it wasn’t meant as anything too serious towards you, and ofc you are still allowed to your own opinion. I was just trying to say that for most Koreans, going to the military isn’t exactly something they enjoy💜

Britt⁷

This reaction was hilarious lol poor Jhope 😂. I love when the boys are together

chanel

why is everyone so pressed about charlie wanting to go to the military he obviously doesn’t know what the really do and it not that deep either

E

It just got crazier every minute lmfaooo love these eps

Steph

Just starting the video and Ben, you look like you either just woke up or didn't sleep much the night before.

Steph

I remember the joy I felt watching this after Hobi was discharged! Still my favorite episodes along with the stunt one! woo! This was a fun reaction and thank you guys for pausing adequately this time!

gia

tanja

this was so much fun but i was nervous as fuck the whole time watching this lmao i could NEVER do this i'd piss myself

Morgan

This was actually built and put together by Run Jin's production team! It's not an actually escape room available to the public. It's super impressive lol.
