today as i sit here finishing up fine print volume 1  bonus content, i'm once again reminded that this book, just like death vigil, the queen and the woodborn, and achilles shieldmaidens exist solely because of the support of people on my patreon.

for the longest time i couldn't take creative risks, relying on the usual model of producing comics because too many comic stores wouldn't carry my comics so floppies were out of the question. mind you i don't blame the stores. every book they carry is a conscious investment and a financial risk. this risk was amplified additionally by me being an industry no name. and make no mistake i am a no name. an unpronounceable name at that. believe me when i say, i don't begrudge the stores for any of that.

so i found myself with all these stories in my head doomed never to see  the light of day, having to take on work for hire comics to be able to take the little free time that was left and slowly work on a long term project like sunstone. in the end, sunstone worked, but beyond that it was still not enough to justify taking large creative risks like trying to bring back death vigil, or heaven forbid ravine. nowadays i am producing 5 different creator owned books and a novel at the same time while not having to rely on floppy sales to survive until the trade hits the market.

i owe my creative freedom to my fans and readers

this is something i never take for granted. after all, i initially promised 16 pages per month  and nowadays regularly it's over 25, because without stress, i feel creative!

AND HOLY FUCK DO I FEEL CREATIVE!
