I have had such an amazing time watching these two Hey, Listen videos you've done. They have been just such a delight! As a fellow music nerd myself, one of my favorite things about music is how it can punctuate a mood or a moment, like the Gommage scene in Expedition 33 recently, or going a bit further back when the last movement of Dancing Mad starts in FF6 while fighting Kefka. You all touch on moments like these on the regular in these videos, but I would LOVE to hear some of your favorite moments or feelings that really hit with you, happy or sad, and the music that lends itself so well to those moments

Loved it, going back to listen to the first episode now as I'm behind on exclusive content. For a potential future theme, I'm wondering if you could do Best Diegetic Music. I mean, I'm mostly trying to sneak in a reason to give Nobuo Uematsu more flowers for the FF6 soundtrack and specifically the Opera House music (Aria di Mezzo Carattere is maybe one of my favorite pieces of music period?), but I do wonder how often video games have segments like that where a band is actually playing or a character is actually singing.

A good theme would be songs that feel like they are mocking you, like as in a difficult fight/puzzle or a plot element or when your just like "NOT NOW GAME!@#!!!".

CedricTheOwl

Love this feature. I've never heard of a few of these games, and it's always a joy to hear a cool new song. As for a theme I'd love to hear, why not Game Sucks, Song Good? I'm always in favor of giving flowers to a composer who puts in the work for a game that doesn't come together.

As for my hype song, I'll go with "Forest Combat" from World of Horror. All the battle themes in that game are incredibly hype, that's just the one that sticks with me the most.

Cameron Gore

It was never used in a game but Fat Dracula by Periphery would get an honerable mention on the future Dracula episode 🤣

Ambient70

lol just that first song unlocked some core memories for me, holy crap. Great choice, Marty!

Oh, and as for a future theme, it would be fun to hear what everyone's "stop and smell the flowers" songs would be. Music that makes you stop questing or fighting or exploring, and instead just chilling in an area of the game and taking in the sights/relaxing a bit. For me, it would be "Beneath the Mask" from Persona 5, aka the music that plays in Cafe LeBlanc in the game. It isn't so much a "stop and take in the sights" time since it's just inside of a cafe/in your bedroom, but it fits the vibe of that area perfectly and sets a super cozy mood so much so that any time I had to take a break while playing I would make sure to idle there so the music would play while I was doing something else. I have it on a few different playlists now that I listen to at work since it has such a chill vibe, and the version with lyrics really shows how lovely a voice Lyn Inaizumi has.

Loving this series so far! A very natural fit for this channel and I enjoy the spotlight on music (relatively) separate from its game! In terms of potential themes, I would love to hear your take on the idea of “Undercover” or “Into the Unknown”, music that’s more understated than the previous themes but maintains a consistent tension and/or driving beat (e.g. Third District by LudoWic from Katana ZERO). In other words, music that evokes the feeling you might not be IN danger, but you’re certainly APPROACHING it.

Episode pitch: cover songs Hype song: Glass Ocean by Machinegirl from the Neon White OST

Deebz Scrub

Potential themes: Music that provides a palpable sense of safety in an unsafe place Best "Final Boss" music (whether or not it's used for a final boss fight) Music that makes you feel powerful

Deebz Scrub

I submit for hype tracks: Ride to Hell from Look Outside and the entire Rune Dice soundtrack

Jakob Hjorth Hansen

That upbeat part of Ori and the blind forest had a beat that made me go "where do I run to, who is my friend"

Jakob Hjorth Hansen

Suggestion for next episode: Music that conveys tragedy. Big scale. My pick: Adagio for strings (ironically performed by choir), used in the first Homeworld game as the player learns that their planet has been scorched and there is no turning back.

The song that always starts playing in my head a lot to hype me up is Danger! from Secret of Mana. Both it and the Boss theme have some insane drums in it, especially for the SNES. A possible category for songs are ones that use actual Lyrics well. A lot of video game music is lyric-less or uses like gregorian chanting or a singer doing vocals, but I'm interested when a game uses a song with words well or interestingly.

Spirit Bear

LRR brings up Eternal Sonata a lot.

mike jayne

A song that has stuck with me for a long time, descent 2 techno industry.

Dustin H

Love the show! Last Judge from Silksong lives rent free in my head, and is very on theme of breaking through a wall!

Kevin

I really enjoyed this, thanks guys!

Hal Meakin

Came here to suggest a similar theme. Video game music has an ability like no other to make me curl up into a ball and question my life choices with tears in my eyes.

Always_Be_Rogue

Loved this. I default to Zelda and Final Fantasy when I listen to game music, so it was great to hear a fun variety that I wouldn't have heard or thought about before.
