It's always felt like from day 1 Microsoft never really understood Halo and never really knew what to do with it. Especially after Bungie went their own way. Handing Halo off to Activision to manage sounds an awful lot like Microsoft expects them to start digging two separate mines.

I think Halo 4 was when the series started going downhill. For me, it felt like Halo but trying to be more like COD. For that reason alone, it's hard to be enthusiastic about Activision getting hold of the Halo reins.

Where does Rare now sit in the Microsoft hierarchy? I hope they are not just used as an outsourcing studio while keeping the SoT lights on.... Any further developments with Ninja Theory? Last I heard there was no buyer 😞 They have such a specialised mo-capping suite you'd think it'd have a niche going for it.

It's hard for me to imagine any of these changes at Microsoft working out well for anyone. Looking back at Phil Spencer's tenure as the head of Xbox, it seems clear that giving too much freedom to their studios didn't pan out. It feels like those studios got the resources of a huge corporation without the oversight that usually accompanies them. But Asha Sharma's massive restructuring feels like a massive overcorrection. She seems to be recklessly cutting studios apart so they can be smashed together with others, and I don't see how shifting teams and their focuses that dramatically results in games that sell well and/or move hardware. It seems more to me like Sharma is rearranging the chairs on the Titanic than actually aligning the brand for future long-term sustainability.

Makes sense 343 blew every opportunity they had - not that Activision seems like it’ll be much better. Bungie only had Destiny 2 before marathon. Makes sense die-hard fans felt betrayed.

Halo Studios being reduced to a supporting studio on Halo says everything really.

Kojima partnered with XBox, paramount owns Warner Brothers, every level of disney plus subscription has ads, call of duty devs are making halo, and superman is riding a nimbus cloud around fortnite swinging a keyblade. Everyday the entertainment industry feels more and more like an amorphous goo that just keeps getting bigger and i fear for the day it eats itself.

Fuzzy Freestyle

I'd like to know your opinions regarding the new patent Microsoft put out outlining a plan for ad breaks during gameplay. Every time I think they can't go any lower, big corpos find a way.

I'm unsurprised Sony wants to go back to the money printing machine that was destiny.

Skillup is about to have a field day talking about this on this week's news.

Ive never played Destiny. But Bungie going back to destiny 2, and all the good things ive heard from the fans. Makes me wanna give the game a shot.

Far Too Many Frogs

The announcement out of Bungie makes me feel like they've got the threat of shutdown hanging over their head. And the announcement out of Xbox leaves me very worried about the future of Halo. I have no confidence in either really.

KC you philistine; many Animes started as light novels.
