😆The sense of humor you guys have with "like, comment, subscribe, and give to the patreon" is hilarious, I love it🧡

I was thinking about this because I'm currently playing Returnal, and there's something more frustrating and less satisfying to me about weapons that have cooldown periods instead of reload (same with Mass Effect 1, IMO), rather than true reload - even though the two systems are functionally the same.

Back when RE4 came out, my little brother went through a phase where he was obsessed with the reloading animations. He'd reload anything. TV remotes. Books. Video Cassettes and DVD boxes. There was one I really liked for a Rocket Launcher, but I can't remember what game. A little arm extended out the side, and you set a pair of rockets into a seat/dip in the middle, and they slid back inside.

The first game I can think of that disposed of any ammo still in the magazine when you reloaded was Mafia.

I'll bring up Helldivers 2's realistic reload mechanic as effectively dictating the tone and flow of combat in a way I find fun. Losing any unspent bullets incentivizes reengaging without a full magazine and leaves you with a very high chance of dealing with an empty clip with lots of remaining enemies who are usually swarming your position. I find the ensuing panic to be quite fun, milage may vary on that, but it definitely reinforces the feeling that you are absolutely in over your head and constantly seconds from death.

Sometimes the reloading action itself is satisfying. It's been a while, but look up Kommnder Karls reloading random things videos. I still fondly remember changing a light bulb with dramatic flair
