Celestial Star

The atmosphere in The Maze is perfect. I would love to see this team do a remake of Silent Hill 4: The Room.

I've been looking forward to this one, since it was Yahtzee quoting Hellraiser that got me into the series. Specifically the line '... and to think... I hesitated.' Everything about the story, lore and design I loved. The gameplay was a little rough around the edges for sure, but I still enjoyed it for the most part. Admittedly I don't play a lot of survival horror, but it had plenty of tension and thrills to keep me locked in. And the puzzles and optional door codes were neat. I feel like the weapons are a bit unbalanced. Nothing quite comes close to the Dragon Breath Shotgun in viability. And one thing that bugged me a lot was that you couldn't bum rush shotgun enemies with melee weapons mid-reload. They just spontaneously gain a chambered round and shoot you if you take multiple swings. I did like the wild sluggishness of melee combat, but most of the time a couple of head-shots from the handgun were much more safe and efficient.

Yahtzee's right of course...but damned if I don't like a good Clive Barker's Hellbarker Reclival to stiffen my willy and open my pores at the end of a long, banal, dull, casually oppressive workday

I'm surprised he didn't appreciate the sexual content, because I found it more well-executed than in most games and intentionally cynical. The point is that in this world, characters are desensitized to sex, death, and violence, so nothing truly shocks you. You're navigating a world where everything is extreme, yet nothing surprises, while trying to rescue your girlfriend, who is herself a flawed character. The purpose, then, is that instead of playing as a traditional hero, you're effectively the protagonist of nothingness in a dead and uncaring universe. I found it quite interesting. And gameplay wise it was RE8, hey why not.

Curoously, in Australia, age verification blocks you from Cyberpunk 2077, but apparently this game isn't restricted at all?
