Well...

The 5 member sub unit song ate and was a stand out in terms of genre and I also LOVED the vocals for Star Eyes! What a FLEX in showing how much everyone has grown vocally!

In terms of the rest, this was quite weak overall. There was nothing adventurous of super memorable which was a shame for their FIRST (and probably last) full album. Especially when you compare to what 5th gen bg's are doing (IDID, IDNTT, EVNNE), there's a lack of experimentation but that's wakeone I guess.

Their chemistry is UNDENIABLE THOUGH!

Enjoy!

Star Eyes sounds like a BOYS II PLANET signal song that was scrapped because they realized none of the trainees can hit those notes so they created HOLA SOLAR real quick.

Joen somi’s EP too please

Koko3op

WAAAAAAIIIITTT!! you may be on to something omfg

like Taerae and Ricky have said Star Eyes is basically Here I am 2.0 and that if it WAS a signal song the trainees would've died trying to do it lol

VOCALBASEONE!!!! I’ve been waiting for this!! I was torn on whether you’d like iconik bc it’s definitely nothing innovative but it’s fun and not boring and the vocals EAT. I think it’s my favorite title track. Star eyes is gonna go so hard in concert and once again making me wanna jump that their tour isn’t going outside of Asia😭😭 I definitely agree that the production is pretty boring and the vocals carry, and I wonder if w1 feel like they can be lazy like that *because* zb1 is so talent? But just imagine how good they could be if the music matched the talent!😔 Ricky especially was showing off and I’m so glad he had so many opportunities to do so here🥹 he’s definitely vying for a main vocal spot wherever the future leads

if you want a real vocal treat from hanbin, you should watch one of their encore stages for Iconik, he killllllls it (and so does everyone else, of course...and btw not asking for a reaction, just think you'd like it)

Kanggajay

Overall I agree that the production is very safe for a group’s possible last album, but you can realllyyyy feel the improvement and emphasis on vocals (Thank God). Ricky absolutely ate down and they’re letting every body do adlibs for once (Taeriana Grande screlting in the back of half the tracks). I sobbed listening to star eyes the first time cause it really felt like a full circle moment, literally Here I am’s crazy younger sister Lovesick game does feel kinda dry, but the performance does it for me. They really sold the sexy concept so I would loovveee to see you react to a performance of that. Similarly to goosebumps, the performance was reaaalll cute. Love your reactions as always🫶🏼

Star Eyes literal gives signal song so bad idk

Tay

Aww I kind of had a feeling the production would be hit or miss for you. I think I’m so heavily focused on the vocals for them, I’ve been having such an incredible time with this album. There’s so many little adlibs and harmonies you find. I def recommend checking out more of their live performances for this promotion cycle!! 🥰

Yay ! So happy to see you reacting to this album. I mean I knew you wouldn't be a fan of most of the songs overall but like you said : VOCALS ! Gosh the amount of talent (and gorgeous voices) in this groupe is truly insane. I agree that WakeOne should really have stepped up with the songs overall, even outside of the production of each individual songs I already have a problem with the lack of cohesion in their album. With the sound, or concept or storytelling. There is nothing. That's one of my issues with their EPs in general so I hoped they would do better with their first full album but I have should known better with WakeOne I guess.. I think Cinema Paradise is their only EP that is cohesive at least with the storytelling/concept. On the other hand at least WakeOne understood that they have a group full of actual SINGERS and they're giving songs that showcase this. So I guess one point for WakeOne but that's pretty much the only thing they're doing right. Also, I just need to talk about Hanbin. This guy is really insane, the way he improved in the last two years is pretty insane. He was already good in Boy's Planet but nowhere near where he is today. They performed Iconik a couple times for encores with full live vocals, and he literally sounded better than the studio version, even with the high ad libs. They all killed it but Hanbin really stood out to me with his vocals on the whole album. And overall they all improved so much, Matthew is polishing his voice and skills with each comeback and he's another one where the growth is really impressive. I'm falling more and more in love with his voice. Yujin really grew a lot too. Like yeah for me it just shows how much they care and actually are passionate about music and singing and I love to see it ! Anyways, thank you for the video, really enjoyed it as usual ! :D

I always appreciate how honest you are in your reviews! I will say that when I first heard this album, I came away very underwhelmed. And lots of fans were saying it was one of their best so I was left scratching my head. Now that it's been out for a couple of weeks, I've been surprised by just how much the album has grown on me. I think some of it is just... the extreme fondness I have for this group and the sadness that it might be their last. But I also think the album has the potential to be a grower anyway. My immediate favorite was I Know U Know - ballads aren't for everyone but I thought the melody was just so beautiful. I also think some of the songs were better performed live than listening to them on their own (especially Goosebumps - I LOVE the stage. The choreography is super fun and I love when they do brighter concepts. But the album version has like... too much vocal processing? Which isn't necessary with this group.) I actually think it should've been their promoted b-side, not Lovesick Game. The title track grew on me a LOT and it's now one of my favorites of theirs. The song that really stands out to me now is Extra. Kenzie came through! The drums and the electric guitar make the whole song for me. Great unit song. I liked the other unit song too (another Kenzie! - she wrote 3 songs on this!) but Extra is still my favorite.

Interesting. I personally thought this was their best album by far. Everything felt so cohesive but not the same song. They also had way more harmonies, runs, layering, etc. than any of their previous albums. Gyuvin and Yujin also got so many actual singing lines and I'm just so proud of how far they've come in singing. Goosebumps has me on a chokehold currently, I think I've been listening to that one at least 5 times a day so far lol.

Amanda

right it's literally Here I Am's sequel

Amanda

the best part of Lovesick Game is the intro... Hao's part is just... chef's kiss

Koko3op

VOCALBASEONE FOR REAL!!

Koko3op

Thank you!! and yeah the vocals shineddd

Koko3op

Sooo true there is not much cohesion at all. Hanbin is a TRUE allrounder. And thank you!

Koko3op

Yesss I do think it's an album that can definitely grow on me!

TMJ

Interesting I loved most of this album lol. Its definitely their best album for me. I figured it wouldnt be for everyone though. I dont think its all that creative or innovative like you said but it reminds me of SM/NCT music so it works for me haha

mia

OMG MICAH I missed you so much im so flipping happy u posted today

Koko3op

HAHA aww it's nice to be missed <3

Cher

Lol in total agreement. It also has Eurovision vibes. I've come to love it. A fun vocal meal.

Cher

I couldn't believe Long Way Back was a Kenzie song. Our boys had delicious vocals, but agree the production was dull. Extra, also by Kenzie, was more interesting (though some chorus parts irritate me) and they sounded great too. My album favourites are Goosebumps, Iconik and Star Eyes.

Cher

Was just going to add yay you're back in time for zb1! And I missed your podcasts!

Crystal World

if they do stay, wakeone needs to get some better producers because they can't be letting my boys waste their talents on a dated track

Koko3op

Amen! They need music that actually says something
