THE BOYZ's Kevin had some VERY interesting things to say about K-pop, capitalism, cultural appropriation and why fans deserve better from this industry… and surprisingly there was quite a bit I agreed with. So today we're getting into his comments and the uncomfortable reality of an industry that happily borrows from different cultures while ultimately being designed to SELL.

Plus ENHYPEN are already preparing another album, ATEEZ are coming back, KiiiKiii finished promotions without a win, Kim Soo-hyun's AAA appearance is facing protests, XngHan & Xoul introduce four new members + Taemin's latest album has me questioning whether some idols are much better at being idols than actually curating themselves as artists

And this week's Micah's Picks are TUIDE's Sunkiss + ABD!

Listening to your podcast, I have to disagree with your position on Taemin’s choice of music since Guilty. He has stated time and time again that he was no longer going to make what he qualified as “commercial” K-pop music. Taemin and Shinee are at point in their careers, where they have the autonomy to select songs that are authentic to them. As an artist Taemin has transcended K-pop and moving more towards mainstream music. His latest album topped #1 on the worldwide charts. To say he has lost his ear for the grandiose music from his past is not the reflection or opinion of most fans. We respect his desire and curiosity to try different genres and taking a leap to incorporate more English songs and lyrics for his international fans. You have every right to your opinion and to love the “old’ Taemin, but he explicitly stated that he is choosing to do whatever he feels and shredding his skin to embark on new journey musically (for example the songs Skin and This Is The End). Honestly, this new album has some great raw vocals, and he worked with an array of producers, but esthetically I believe someone like you would not vibe with because it’s not musically the K-pop sound you feature and speak about with the multitude of 4th and 5th generation you have recently on your channel. Taemin will always be “the idols of idols” and that iconic artist no matter what genre of music he touches. Oh, Veil was so artistic and beautiful. The song and live performance was classic Taemin.

I was curious about what was said about Taemin in podcast cause he is one of my ults and I wasnt the biggest fan of Taemin's first album after he left SM (Horizon is probably the only song I remember till date) and tbh even the guilty album I really only remember Guilty and Rizzness too, but I definitely like this new album that just came out. It has certain songs that I will definitely remember, probably more so than the tt tbh lol I also think the company he joined right after SM wasnt the best either, so that couldve been affecting things on the backend, production, etc. That being said, as someone who just listens to music for fun I think what Taemin brings to table and continues to do so until now still captures people's attention. So to each their own 😂

Good for you! My position remains the same since neither commercial success nor my varied tastes were the basis of my critique, nor do I find either relevant!
