You didn't miss anything important with the introductions to Real SHIELD. There was such an important emphasis on Robert Gonzales, the older agent with the cane, because he is played by Edward James Olmos. Olmos is a well regarded actor in genre television, specifically for his role in Battlestar Galactica. The slow pan up was to show off the big name actor and to highlight the importance of that character moving forward. Also Agent Weaver, the black woman on the council, was previously seen in two episode during season 1. She was in charge of SHIELD Academy.

Will always be on Fitz's side. Jemma is acting so shady and fearful and, if given her way, she'd have had Skye and all like her put down or locked away. And Agent 33 is such a tragic story...she was trying to be a good agent, living her life...then Bakshi kidnapped and brainwashed her and completely erased her identity. And I am actually proud of her for finding *some* purpose. Also, the fake/real shield annoys me. Fury created Shield. Fury decided Colson was the next director. So, these "agents" are in direct insubordination of REAL Shield. As for the mask, I wonder why Kara didn't just look at a photo of herself to look fully like herself...clearly she can do that. Just go get a photo from before Hydra took her and she can be herself. For us, though, maybe an EMP? Or some other type of disabling device might help? This was so fun and I can't wait for the next one! No idea what's coming, so excited to be on this ride!

That one contentious agent from "real" shield, that actor always plays the exact same character in everything he's in: nitpicky, antagonistic and annoying. It's so specific does he chose those roles on purpose?
