This episode has garnered kind of a bad reputation in the fandom because of who wrote it and the reference to JK which is a bit umm…yeah lol. That said I actually really like this episode so I’m willing to look past that stuff. The music and the witches being my favorite part it all just feels so big and massive and old timey. First past episode to really achieve the feeling of time travel to the past in my opinion. It all felt very real. People also have issues with the way The Doctor treats Martha in regards to Rose but I think it makes sense. Again first person you connect to after losing your entire race is gonna leave an impact, and I like how Martha still showed how much worth she had in the episode. All around underrated episode glad you liked it too (:

A shame about the JK Rowling bit. Certainly didn't age well. But if it makes you feel any better, David Tennant is quite famous for standing up for the Trans community at any given opportunity. He's a fucking legend.

The implication that Shakespeare wrote Sonnet 18, one of the most famous love poems ever, about Martha… yeah that’s a slay, and he’s so right I’m also constantly fascinated by the fact that Shakespeare literally invented or introduced over 1700 words to the English language. He literally invented the word “Unique”!!!! Like?? Okay, maybe you are a genius. And so using his voice and the power of his words as a plot device in this episode is kinda cool And yeah, The Doctor definitely isn’t letting Martha in fully yet, he’s still got those walls up 🥺 excited for you to see how their relationship develops

Also I’m so glad you like the little crystal ball because we’re KEEPING ITTTT 🔮🔮🔮

This episode is pure camp. And I am here for it.

I'm not a Shakespeare expert or even a fan really, but I love this episode so I'm glad to see that you did. I feel like it's one that's a bit underappreciated. I haven't seen Dean Lennox Kelly and anything else. He's great here radiating charisma. I appreciate how they write the character as well. He's able to see through the psychic paper, realizing he's in mourning & figuring out who Martha/The Doctor are by the end. The lead witch is played by Christina Cole. She starred in a British show Hex a show about a girl in school dealing with fallen angels, ghosts & other stuff. It definitely had some Buffy vibes. Also one of those shows that feels like it's made for me but is ultimately a snooze. Martha does a good job rolling with the punches on her first proper adventure. There is noticeable friction though as The Doctor is treating her as a bit of an afterthought along for the ride instead of a "real companion" like Rose. Martha once again shows that she's clever & can be counted on. There's a lot of the trope of saying a famous saying to the person who said it. I can understand how some people might find that grating. I enjoy it a lot, although here, especially since there's so much that you can do with a character like Shakespeare.
