This episode is exactly why i'm a big advocate of watching the Epitaph Part 1 at the end of Season 01... now that you know where everything is going, you can focus on how, and you can see all the nuances and development of each character, specially Topher (my fav)

This is one of my favorites from the second season, but I got to say the stuff with Nolan is so gross. Beginning to end he was just a straight up horrible person who had too much power and influence. I will quote Buffy, "You have a choice. You don't have a good choice, but you have a choice." Several characters had a big choice to make this episode. Adele could fight her bosses, Boyd could report Echo, Topher could follow orders. Topher had been seen struggling with ethical concerns about his work and this was the breaking point where he choose to TRY and do the right thing. It blew up in his face, but he tried. It was weird seeing Echo in a secondary role, but her scenes here were still incredibly important. She is awake and she is choosing to push others to wake up as well. Particularly Sierra and Victor. Lots of good stuff still to come. Can't wait.

"I'm so glad she got to kill him. I love when rapists die" Genuinelyyyyyy. When I first watched this episode many moons ago, I was afraid they would have had Victor programmed to come and save her. But I am so happy Priya was the one who did it. She didn't need another man to come to her rescue--she defended herself all on her own. Instead, Victor waited patiently until she was finished. Ready to move forward. And I loooove the poetry behind her painting as a backdrop as her pitch black silhouette rises up after killing Nolan. Such a gorgeous and powerful shot

Man, this episode: FUCKING FANTASTIC. I think this is my favorite episode of the whole series. I cry every time I see it. What happened to Priya is absolutely horrific. Rot in hell, Nolan. The way this episode is laid out, every beat works, the music is used so well to set the mood, the imagery, like her raising as a black shadow against her painting just like in her earlier drawing...oh man this show can be absolutely incredible. And Dichen's performance as Sierra/Priya...MY GOD. She and Enkar (I think I got his name wrong, Victor's actor) are the show's MVP. Fran Kranz (Topher), also so so so good. And Adele...look Adele is a really twisted/complicated character, but she gets more and more interesting and honestly, I did not expect her to become one of my favorites but here we are. She's just so interesting to watch.

This episode is just fantastic. It feels like a movie. It’s hard to believe that all of this stuff that happened can fit into a normal sized episode. Jed and Marissa crushed the writing of this one. The acting in this series is incredible all around but holy shit are Fran Kratz and Dichan Lachman on another level in that scene towards the end once they get back to the dollhouse. Fran says so much with his face without even saying anything at times. It’s episodes like this why I put Dollhouse up there right with Buffy and Angel when it comes to the Whedon shows. I feel like some people have trouble getting past the early episodes where it’s just “echo engagement of the week” but if you stick it out, the places this show goes are just peak TV for me.

This may be my favorite episode in the whole series. The writing, acting, character development, story--all top tier. We get the full payoff from all the time we've spent with these characters and this setting. Just gorgeous.

Damn good television. Adele drinks to be able to live with it, but Topher has to experience it all and not hard to see why he couldn't handle the repercussions. I love Echo giving the picture to him to cause him to have this initial shift. Echo (no pun intended) what everyone has said about the performances from Priya/Sierra. She was flat out amazing.

I think of this episode all the time. Even when I'm not thinking of dollhouse at all. It was that poignant. I also like when rapists die, so naturally I love that Priya gets to take him out. I love that Topher is forced to live with the reality of his actions and their consequences, finally. Finally he realizes that these aren't dolls, these are real people, with real lives, and he isn't necessarily some saviour to them or some messiah who gets to modify them and play with them consequence free. It's unfortunate that it took something so massively consequential for him to understand that, but something is better than nothing in this case.

If you asked me what I thought about this episode if I hadn't watched it in a while I'd say something like "very very good, 8.5, 8 6, solid B+ to A-, whatever" and then I watch it and am like "Damn is this one of my top 5 favourite episode of TV? Graduation Day 1& 2, Best of Both Worlds 1&2, War Stories, and this. " That's some top shelf company but jeepers it's just really excellent. Her own questionable morals aside I adore Adele's character so much. Speaking of adoring, your reaction was so enjoyable. Seeing the clear emotions this episode sent you through was just very sweet and real. Keep being you, D.
