Tbh I always thought Max was too boring for Lorelai. Like he’s nice enough but he always seemed confused by Lorelai’s humor. I feel like the scene with Dean was meant to show he just didn’t fit into that world. It is kinda crazy they were dating for like a year, about to get married, yet he still didn’t know basic things about her world.

Thus came the moment a lot of us have been waiting for since Lorelai and Max got back together. "Because I didn't wanna try on my wedding dress every night" is such a perfect summation of how she feels about Max. Max is a great guy and she knows that. But he's also not the right guy, not for her. But she didn't realize that until Emily went on about how she felt the days leading up to her own wedding and describing exactly how Lorelai wishes she felt for Max And don't worry, I also cry when Rory sees her mom is clearly going through it by calling off the wedding and immediately gets onboard with whatever avoidant tactic Lorelai has planned

Max definitely isn't a fan favorite character but I enjoy him. I think the actors have real chemistry. The way they bounce off each other in how they aren't alike makes her good TV. Watching her come to the decision that she isn't madly in love with him is a heartbreaker.
