The Darkness within the Doctor is what created the Dream lord. It is very much a character episode, I think more so to bring a connection between Amy & Rory. Interesting part when Amy states that the Doctor tells her everything...except his name.

I enjoy this episode quite a bit. Watching it again after you know The Dream Lord is The Doctor's deepest & darkest thoughts about himself makes the episode that much better.

"You know... Whatever Amy wants... It's kinda cute." (in regards to Rory being happy anywhere, as long as it's with Amy...) – That's one of those instances where I both fully agree emotionally, and at the same time think it's a bit of a strange situation. Because, just a quick role-reversal, and then Amy would seem like she'd have no agency, and we wouldn't call it "kinda cute", we'd call it toxic or problematic. So... While I, too, find it kinda cute, it also shows a power dynamic between the two of them that makes the trio situation interesting, but at the same time doesn't feel quite... healthy, I'd say. Still: I've always enjoyed the whole arc.
