I was literally scrolling on YT trying to find something to watch then I got the email notification! Perfect timing!

i'm having the worst morning, I was ready to just rot in bed, then I got this notification. exactly what I needed to get up today.

Finally…one of my favourite quotes…”And I’m his mother in law!”. Glad you enjoyed it. And on your wishlist you had dinosaurs & this time we got pterodactyls… :-) You’re right about the underexplored plot point…but also we have to remember its for the whole family, and trauma is a touchy subject when younger kids watching. Enjoy the cheesecake! P.s. just as an idea, if you rewatch the series, why not go a bit further and rewatch Silence in the Library, to see how your reactions to our girl River have changed…

You're right in thinking the series was trying to do too much. It hasn't aged the best imo when you compare it to earlier series. BUT you have some amazing episodes coming up!

Ian Smith

For me (on first viewing) the weakest story of this season was 'Lets kill Hitler'. It was too frantic; too slapsticky; and nothing like as funny as it thought it was. However, in amongst all the hijinks, Moffat cleverly hid the solution (Teselecter) to this season's mystery - and it was writ large ,in plain sight! No-one appeared to spot it,and yet it was so damn obvious once it was revealed in the series Finale. Moffat CAN be a genius sometimes. He sort of does the same with this episode. As you say, it's far too busy - and that detracts from the quality of the storytelling; but Moffats storytelling is nonetheless strong enough to succeed regardless. As a footnote: the announcement of the death of the Brigadier is a reference to a much loved character from the Classic series, whose actor had recently died - which was a nice (if sad) gesture for the fans.

River's timeline so far: Amy got pregnant in her honeymoon, in the TARDIS [The Big Bang, S05E13] She got kidnapped, Melody was born and then kidnapped as well. [A Good Man Goes to War, S06E07] She was brought up in the orphanage in 1969, but when they tried to use her to kill him then, she managed to escape. [The Impossible Astronaut, S06E01-02] She was hungry, malnurished and dying, so she regenerated for the first time (probably?) in New York. Somehow she went to England and grew up being Melody, without actually knowing everything, but with a few notions like Amy is her mother, and maybe Rory is her father [Let's Kill Hitler, S06E08]. She then took a bullet and regenerated again into River Song. The Doctor was kind to her and she saved him with regeneration energy, and was left in the hospital with her new diary. Then she started to learn about the doctor and so she got her PhD in Archaeology [Closing Time, S06E12], at which point she was again kidnapped and forced into the suit one more time (this episode). She then will be charged as the woman who killed the doctor and spends her days in Stormcage. Sometimes she escapes prison to go on adventures [The Impossible Astronaut, S06E01], and one time she was brought by the church to help out with a problem [The Time of Angels, S05E04]. She helps out so much that she gets pardoned. After that, she keeps having adventures all around, she gets her Professor's title, and goes to the Library, in which she saves the doctor by taking a hit so fatal that she couldn't even regenerate. [Silence in the Library, S04E08-09] |->> at least this is how I remember and interpret the events

P.s. a joke from one of my favourite movies: Walter Mattau: what do you do for a living? Glenda Jackson: Cheesecake. Walter: You pose in the nude?! Glenda: No, I make desserts! Although, god knows, it’d pay better….

Now that you are fully through this season, I want to just give a non-spoiler heads-up about the structure of next season. So, you have a Christmas Special next, but then you get the first 5 episodes of the season, then there is another Christmas Special, then the back half of the season. It's very important to watch that second Christmas Special after episode 5, before you continue with the season. Otherwise, it will make no sense.

yes dinosaurs - check!!! and you know what, sometimes i do forget kids watch this too cause it just feels so geared toward adults but makes sense!

darcieswatchingbuffy

frantic does feel like the perfect word to describe it actually! but yes, many clever things to appreciate regardless! and im very excited about how this next chapter has been set up so i can't wait to get into it!

darcieswatchingbuffy

LOL wait having it laid out like this is actually incredible to read thank you! i feel like i should write these down and watch the episodes just for fun lol

darcieswatchingbuffy

Matt Smith does this sort of half-wink I've noticed a couple times that I love

Neil Silverman

Yeah, I get the complaint that this episode was a little too busy. But there's so much I really liked about it. The alternate reality Amy & Rory are great, everything with River, the wedding, the twist - really enjoyed all that. Also, the bit about all the people responding to her distress signal on his behalf - I just wish we'd seen them. There's a great parallel there to the Pandorica episode, where all his enemies were there in the sky. Also fair about not really getting a chance to see the impact on Amy and Rory of all the stuff that happened to them, especially having their baby stolen from them. Would have been nice to see that.

Neil Silverman

oh man, I'm not even a big cheesecake fan, but that looks marvelous. I want some... lol

Michael Fallon

Great reaction! The Amy and Rory story isn't done yet. Christmas episode is next and then we begin series 7, which is full of great episodes and, of course, more plot twists and turns. Matt Smith really developed in the role as his time as the Doctor went on. Series 6 finale felt somewhat flat but had a great ending. Series 6, looking back after watching series 7, also felt like a build up to the events of series 7 - a bit like the 2nd movie in a trilogy.

Is anyone else gonna say it? 'River Song came twice'. MOFFAT, YOU HORN DOG. I knew what you were doing there.

The wink!! Not just an indication that he had a plan but he's actually trying to show her the plan - HE'S RIGHT IN THAT TESSELECTA, RIGHT THERE!!! Hidden in plain sight, AGAIN. I actually think this series/siri is like one of the very best - it's such a Moffat puzzlebox. Yeah, some things underexplored, but, on the whole, a brilliantly self-contained story. And if you were a kid in 2011, as I was, watching that first episode, seeing the Doctor properly DIE - what a HOOK. And then eagerly watching the whole series - do you KNOW how long that gap between A Good Man Goes to War and Let's Kill Hitler felt - a whole summer! To wait! For the next episode! Cliffhanger after cliffhanger!!!! Reveal after reveal!!!! And, looking back now, it still works. And it's a very satisfying, and smart, conclusion - which repays attention. For example, I only noticed the wink on, like, my seven billionth viewing! So I guess you're smarter than me. But still! That's part of the genius of this series - you either notice it the first time or you notice it the trillionth time. And either way, there's still more to notice. I think Steven Moffat once said something like (paraphrasing) - 'It was always obvious from the first episode that the astronaut was River, and the kid was River, and that River was the child of Amy and Rory, but it was only obvious for the children watching; the adults would try to figure it out too much'.

DSJ.

Oh lord, I was only posting here to point out the 'River Song came twice' joke, and now I've gone off again.

o

I do very much appreciate the fact that we all kind of mock the cowboy hat in the season opener, cheer when River shoots it off, and we all get to this point and are upset, when it gets shot off.... hahaha

o

They should implement a rule, any episode with River automatically gets 2-3 episodes, minimum.
