“Run you clever boy and remember” Oh here’s where it gets good!

Wow what a coincidence. Maybe its all connected.......... 🤔. Love this episode

It's so well written this episode! It really captures the loss the Doctor had, which is valid after travelling with Amy and Rory for all that time. I'm so glad it didn't just forget about them. The rest of this series is very hit and miss but the mystery of Clara helps a lot (especially if you already like her)

Ian Smith

This episode does a lot of work. It introduces Clara into the show; reintroduces Vastra,Jenny and Strax; shows us a new TARDIS interior; puts the face back into the Title sequence (a staple of the Classic era) - and, for Classic Who aficionados, it also acts as a prequel story for a Classic villain, The Great Intelligence. In Classic, the Intelligence was a nebulous entity who was introduced 'fully fledged', but with no indication of it's origins. In The Snowmen Moffat finally gives us it's origins, AND casts Richard E. Grant in the role! The rest of the season,as befits Who's 50th Anniversary year, throws in lots of callbacks for those that might recognize them. I very much enjoy the latter part of Season 7. :)

2026-10-24 18:00 I'm not a fan of the christmasy theme of it all, but this is a Solid episode all throughout. The part in which the Doctor makes an entrance like he was Sherlock Holmes, the background music is the theme song from Sherlock BBC (which is also written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, and was airing by the same time this episode came on)

A lot of people liked Clara. She was a great character.

The face in the opening credits is a call back to classic who, where they had the current Doctor's face in the opener. Which is fitting, since the Great Intelligence was first seen in Classic Who.

For some reason i love victorian clara and dalek souffle clara, but never quite warmed to …errm …what happened after (he said trying to avoid spoilers).

Andrew Nicholson

Girl, not the Jack Frost reference 😭😭 you're killin me here 😂 Why are our brains the same??? Lmao Additionally: 100% hard agree about the fake snow in shows and movies; it's such a pet peeve for me.

Sorry, gotta add another comment. You've now been introduced to Clara! And so I just want to paint a picture of what it was like for viewers/fans at the time that the series was airing. Before series 7 even started, it was known that Amy and Rory were leaving AND that the new companion was going to be played by Jenna Coleman. However, we knew that Amy and Rory still had time left before their goodbye. So. IMAGINE. the shock we all experienced when in the very first episode of the season, we see Jenna Coleman??? And she dies??? The shock (and fear because wait....are the Ponds leaving in the first ep????) that ensued during the episode AND THEN absolute confusion after it was over and her character had died?? Huh???? A wild time. Being able to watch the series now with absolutely zero knowledge of anything that occurs is truly a gift (although, not gonna deny that there was definitely a ton of fun to be had while it was occurring real-time, knowing partially that things were about to change but having no clue as to how), and being able to watch you experience it is just so much fun!! (Especially since you are BY FAR my favorite reactor lol)

EEEEH a new era!! at least, this episode always feels like that to me

Never really liked the bad guys in this one - I could never really bring myself to care much about the snowmen and the great intelligence. But it doesn't matter because there's so much else in this special that's so great and is really much more of the focus anyway. From Clara to our great detective team, to the storybook staircase to the clouds... yeah, very fun!

I have never seen Snow in my life (I live in Adelaide south Australia) it is the top of my bucket list so hearing you talk about snow makes me amazed... and a little sad as now i'm wondering if it will be like i have been imagining.

I’ve always felt there were so many “snack‑size” guests on Doctor Who: who could’ve made incredible companions, and losing this one still stings. I adored Soufflé Girl, and when this version of Clara arrived, I finally understood why the other had to die, because this one was even better. Everything about her made me giddy. Every reaction, every gesture, every bit of banter hit with the same immediate electricity as River, Madame de Pompadour, Wilf, and the Eleventh Doctor. Which, I fought it at first. There was supposed to be a longer mourning period after Ten, and it vanished the moment 11 realized he wasn’t ginger. But with Clara, it happened again, not once, but twice. She just clicked for me with the Doctor in a way that felt rare and immediate twice. Geronimo.

This was the perfect chance to give Madam Vastra a bad ass sword fight scene, instead they decided to do what they did. I am still upset about that. I wanted a series and for them to get back and get Lorna Bucket.

So brand new TARDIS set!! Known affectionately by the crew at the time as "The Pumpkin" I'm very fortunate to say I have been on this exact set & have a picture looking up at the glow of the console in my living room, yeah I know, very lucky. The set was designed by Michael Pickwoad (R.I.P) and was inspired in-part by the Cerne Hadron Collider. The main reason for the change of set was because of a move of studios having been at BBC Upper Boat Studios since 2004, Doctor Who moved to the new Roath Lock Studios in the heart of Cardiff Bay. It was simply deemed cheaper to build a new improved TARDIS set from scratch than move it but Moffat felt it was time for a new TARDIS anyway due to 11 loosing Amy & Rory. Just before the move they sold tickets for fans to visit the old one for the 1st time. This is the 1st TARDIS set in New Who that was a fully 360°enclosed structure with levels. No holes. The structure resembled a pumpkin shape and had enough room inside for a crew and cameras inside but the roof was removable. When I opened those blue doors you truly felt like you were inside the TARDIS because of It being fully enclosed & it really did feel magical to be on it I can't lie.

The start of maybe my favorite Moffat mystery

'Those were the days' is one of my favourite moments in this series. He deliveredthat line perfectly.
