The Tape Hiss Manifesto

Fun fact: I have never seen this episode. I was grounded when it originally aired so I taped it, heard about Doyle at school the next day, and recorded over it with an episode of Queer as Folk.

Yeah..........Def a "Kick you while you're down" episode coming after the last one. Can't wait for the next episode tho.

"Is that it? Am I done?" --make a fandom cry with only one sentence. Well, two I guess. Hope you were amused by Doyle's little commercial the first time, because you get to laugh at it exactly once! So one of the reasons I thought it was so appropriate that you'd declared Doyle the Robin of the group has to do with this episode. There have been several different Robins in the Batman comics, and one of them was famously murdered by the Joker. :( The great thing about watching Buffy and Angel side by side instead of separately is that they're *usually* not both super sad at the same time. Imagine watching "I Will Remember You" and this episode back-to-back without "Something Blue" to act as a break in between. Definitely agree that the metaphors involved in Doyle's half-demon-ness can get kind of muddled. Trying to read it as a one-to-one allegory for real-world issues just... doesn't work very well at all, especially when you factor in the Scourge and the obvious Nazi imagery and rhetoric they employ. (This isn't the only case in which metaphors get kinda mixed, either. Example: what exactly is being a Slayer supposed to be a metaphor for--because I can think of a few different things that aren't terribly compatible with each other.) Setting aside the metaphors, the Scourge also pose an in-universe consistency problem: we learned from Anya that so-called "pure" demons are supposed to be like what the Mayor turned into at the end of last season, and all the demons that walk the Earth are supposed to be "human hybrids, like vampires." I've heard some people explain this away as a matter of the Scourge being tricked by their own propaganda; they point to instances where the light from their anti-human-superweapon seems to affect some of them, causing them to flinch. It's not explicitly confirmed by the episode itself, but I do think this explanation makes sense.

So many good episodes in a row :D These weeks are awesome. I feel like the strength of these shows is the character development and just how attached we get. Occasionally the plot lines and themes can be iffy (like personally I didn't like this episode's plot) but the way it shows Doyle's redemption and heroism is, in my opinion, superb.

Can't do that in Season1? Don't tell the Buffyverse the rules, they won't listen.

Great reaction Darcie! Apart from Doyle, I personally don't like this episode, but then I don't generally like Holocaust themed episodes because I think they are pretty trite. It's hard to watch these when you know people who survived the actual Holocaust and know what they went through. I get what the writers were going for, and I think they did a decent job all things considered, but I just don't think the horrors of war and genocide can /should really be addressed in a 40-45 minute show. But that's just me. Maybe for others they get more out of it.

I told you coffee with liquor kinda day lol its always like WHAT??? cause its literal ep 9 of s1. He was great, Doyle was the friend Angel needed. 💙 I think it was a few years later but the actual actor also passed so big 😭😭😭 each time cause it feels real to fans who view again knowing this. The metaphor was very obvious. It personally makes my heart hurt.
