I understand why it’s not one of your favourites 😂 as someone who isn’t afraid of every little thing, this is one of my personal favourites from the series. The twist at the end revealing that humans are just as evil as monsters is amazing. Especially when it’s just a child.

What I love about this episode is how the twist exposes reality. Often the scariest, most terrifying evil is right in front of us or next to us and we have no idea because they look so "normal".

I tend to regard this one as a nice "return to form" after a bit of a mid-season slump, but I totally understand why it wouldn't be one of your favorites... it does play up the horror aspect of the show pretty heavily. There's a lot of good in this one, though: the exploration of Angel's feelings of guilt over Doyle's death, the parallels between Angel and Ryan's father, some fleshing out of Wesley's character and backstory (surprise, surprise, he doesn't have a good relationship with his father--who does in this universe? Though Wesley's father sounds like he was especially bad ☹️), and of course the twist. And lest we forget, we now have a surname for Angel! From now on, he is "Angel Jones." I'm not 100% sure the twist makes a ton of sense, though I still ultimately like it. My issue with it comes down to "Who was in control during the exorcism?" If it was the demon, then why wasn't its response to the exorcism something like "yes, please, get me the hell out of here!" And if it was the boy, then why was he able to move objects with his mind and read Wesley and Angel's minds--was he stealing power from the demon inside him somehow? Still, it's certainly surprising, interesting, and thought-provoking, and even though it isn't fully explained, it's possible to "make" it work with a little bit of headcanon, which is why I say I still ultimately like it.

I like the parallel at the end between Angel and the father. When you lose someone close, you got to think about the people that are still here, you got to keep going for them. Also fits the theme presented in the pilote: Angel has to keep making connections with the living no matter what.

Finally! A light, wacky, silly Fun episode!!

Matt

This episode makes me wonder if Harmony was like Ryan and that's why her personality didn't change much when she became a vampire. She was pretty mean and seemed otherwise kind of empty even as a human. At least she wasn't setting fires.

Richard Lucas

I’ve always thought the Emmys should give out awards not just for star and supporting, but also for guest role. The actress playing the nun here does an incredible job. She takes already strong material and not only delivers it, but elevates it. One of my favorite scenes in season, though my absolute favorite scene is still coming up!

That actor who plays Ryan also plays another little psycho kid in The Butterfly Effect. Every time I watch this I'm reminded of it!
