Ha, not me logging out of work immediately to watch this! 😁❤️

Eliphelet77

I admit I subbed for this, which is what I always do with Buffy reactions! Super excited to watch later.

Kenn

Yesterday was my birthday I am so pleased with the timing of this!!

Erika

Omg literally counting the minutes until my lunch break to watch this 🙌

Strange Motions

Geez I had such a bad day today, this is exactly what I needed. Thank you Darcie!x

Oh yay, it's the fun, happy musical episode where Buffy attempts suicide & Willow sexually assaults Tara. :D I'm being a tad sarcastic, sort of, this episode is made of awesome, but it's actually really, really dark at some points. :)

Claire Eyles

Darcie, I absolutely loved that you actually listened to the lyrics and picked up on the themes of the songs. A lot of people don't do that on their first watch, so kudos. :D

Claire Eyles

The dancing demon, Sweet, is played by legendary 3 times Tony Award winning Broadway performer, and choreographer, Hinton Battle. Hinton Battle studied classical ballet with the American School of Ballet under George Balanchine, and later starred in the original Broadway production of 'The Whiz', playing the scarecrow (a role that Michael Jackson would go on to perform himself in the film adaptation). Getting someone of Hinton's calibre for this episode is huge.

I've watched countless reactions to this episode and you're the first person I've ever seen notice that Buffy's singing 'This isn't real, but I just wanna feel' at the end

Erotic Education

Probably your best reaction yet! Loved it <33

The Oracle Witch

By far my favorite reaction! I was right there with you in all the feels. I rewound a few times too haha. Then you did it haha. I never noticed the willow this is a filler part. Everyone sang with their own voice and i think alyson hannigan maybe wasnt as comfortable but it worked out cause tara has some PIPES.

I think we, as your community, have been collectively holding our breath (and our tongues) waiting for this episode. It hasn't been easy! I am so excited for you, especially knowing how much you love musicals and as you have said previously, how you feel people communicate better when singing. This episode does a beautiful job moving the plot forward in an incredibly imaginative way. Buffy at the beginning: "I was always brave and kind of righteous/Now I find I'm wavering"... Unlike many of your viewers, I have not watched and listened to this ep and soundtrack multiple times. Watching it with you was the first time I caught that line. And Spike's song... "You know you've got a willing slave/And you just like to play the thought that you might misbehave"...*sigh*... So much to unpack in this one! It is a joy to experience with you. Love that you caught the long take of Giles, Xander and Anya on your first watch! The parking ticket lady is BtVS writer/producer Marti Noxon. The mustard out dry cleaning guy is producer David Fury. Also I think the long take was not on a soundstage. I grew up in L.A. and that looks like a street I know in Santa Monica, near the beach. So fun! Also, thanks for the unexpected commercial break, that interlude explained a lot about you, Darcie!😉

P.S.... "Dawn's in trouble, it must be Tuesday"- Buffy originally aired on Tuesday nights.

Chas Summers

You're the first I've seen to be devastated by what's going on, rightly so.

That’s Not Acting

Love to see it and I'll echo some of the other comments by saying that I was really into the way you took the time to really hear the lyrics and didn't just fan-out over the fact that it's a musical. It's SO MUCH FUN but there's a TON of plot progression in this episode. Also, just from me, you are the first reactor I've seen in this episode not just sort of freak out and act super excited when Buffy kisses Spike at the end. It's a heartbreaking moment for me (for all the reasons I'm sure you already know) but so many who watch this celebrate in that moment. Thanks for that.

StephanieB

In the magic shop at the beginning...Is Buffy drawing a light at the end of the tunnel in her notebook?

Clémence

Oh Darcie !! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’ve been waiting for this moment for quite a while and it didn’t disappoint! Great reaction! You didn’t need to talk a lot, your emotions did everything! This episode is forever in my heart and believe me, you can definitely watch it a 100 times 😁

TheLoungingPotato

I'm gonna go ahead and back the comments up that praise you for really listening to the lyrics here, especially at the very end with the Buffy/Spike kiss. I really think that your background of loving musicals so much *really* helped you focus on the lyrical content. Which, as people who love musicals know, is always INCREDIBLY important and always says something that regular dialogue might only allude to I also just love how excited you were about this episode! It was honestly one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite, rewatch experiences for "Once More, With Feeling". And I knew it would be! You're genuinely my favorite reactor so I was, no joke, counting down the days to see your reaction to this haha. Can't wait to rewatch the reaction a few more times!

BEST REACTION EVER! I love this current crop of reactors all so surprised about the musical episode. Back when this came out and we were watching it on TV week to week, it was no surprise at all - it was marketed ahead of time. So we all knew this was going to be a musical going into it. I think it must be better to be hit with it out of the blue. Glad you discovered they put out a CD - I still listen to it from time to time, it's so good! And from what I understand, Alyson Hannigan never had any vocal training and never felt comfortable singing, which is why she didn't get a song of her own and only had a few lines in other songs.

x_Rhi_x

Alyson hannigan requested not to have a song or much singing time. So did Michelle trachtenburg, which is why she had a ballet number instead of a solo. Amazing reaction darcie. I love musicals, too. This episode is phenomenal and whedon is a dick, but you can't deny he's a genius. He wrote and composed the entire episode in like a weekend with him and his partner just singing all the songs to show everyone how they wanted it done.

From what I can remember, James Marsters (Spike) was the inspiration for this episode, since he was in a rock band. He would bring out his guitar at cast/crew get-togethers and sing for everyone. Alyson Hannigan (Willow) is very uncomfortable with singing, so they tried to minimize the amount of singing she had to do. This also gave Amber Benson (Tara) a chance to shine in their scenes together. As for Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn), I believe she was more comfortable with dancing than singing, so they made her big song more of a dance number with the villains.

Scott Margeson

YEP! This happened. Almost happened in season four instead of "Hush", but it did not.

Noah

This has always stuck with me: “When musicals are done well…the song happens at a point where the words aren’t enough anymore”. — James Marsters

Sarah

I’m so glad you got to my favorite episode! The ost is on Spotify so you should definitely listen to the full version of the parking ticket song. It’s not my favorite of the songs but it’s cool that there’s an extended cut. I think on another reaction to this episode someone said that singer was one of the writers for the show which is really cool Maybe one day you could rewatch this and do a singalong. I love singing along to musicals lol

Thom Purdy

This is not "a musical episode"...this is "THE Musical episode"!

Nettie

💕💕Loved your reaction to this amazing episode.

Ephinyus

I've waited 6 long seasons for you to enjoy this masterpiece of an episode! I'm so glad you loved it. I have the CD, and know every words to every song by heart. I love musicals so much! Btw, the demon was played by 3 time Tony Award winner Hinton Battle.

Erin

I've been looking forward to this so much! A while back when you had said that you love musicals, I remember thinking oh hell yes 😂 AND the fact that you do your uploads on Tuesdays, so the "must be Tuesday" joke hits here too. Just such a fun reaction that I think made all of our days! This was the very first episode I ever watched. I was 7 years old and thought the show was too scary, so my dad showed this episode to me and I was immediately hooked. The nostalgia around this episode is intense lol, but it is SO good. The layers to the themes in this episode, the music, the acting, it's all just amazing.

One thing I've become more interested in as I've rewatched Buffy and gone through this part of the storyline with reactors, is how feelings about trauma and recovery have evolved. Having watched the series at the time it aired, I don't remember feeling that Giles was completely wrong or unreasonably harsh in expecting Buffy to take on adult responsibilities at this point. I think we all regretted the possibility of Giles leaving. And in this episode specifically I think most viewers agreed that Giles telling Buffy she was on her own to save Dawn was a bit too much But I think most people bought into the general idea that Buffy was depending on Giles a little too much. But a lot of reactors I see today are sort of outraged that Buffy is expected to recover from her death and return, not to mention loss of her mother, pretty quickly on the show. And frankly, looking at it today, the expectations placed on Buffy DO seem a bit rushed ... some of them anyway. I'm curious what people think. Are we seeing a show flaw, a rushed storyline here? Or have our ideas about mental health shifted so much that the show now seems out of touch or just plain wrong on the subject?

Kirsten Stewart

I have been counting down to this episode and your reaction to it knowing that you would love it. We had a copy of the CD when it was first released and my daughter (11 at the time) and I would sing every line of every song as if we were cast members whilst driving with the windows down, ignoring the stares we received while stopped at traffic lights 🥰🥰

Matthew Garrison-Perkins

Top 3 episode of the series. And thanks, now I've got "Where does the pollen Go?", stuck in my head. Music is the universal language.

Saga

best episode ever!! thank you for such an awesome reaction, I had so much fun!<3

Erica Moyers

If you ever get a chance, listen to the full length songs on CD. They cut out hilarious pieces of songs that I think you'd enjoy. The ones I remember having missing parts were the Parking Ticket song and Where do we go from here.

Victoria A Wilder

So adore your reaction to this episode! If you're into musical shows, you might enjoy both Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (it is NOT what you expect and is truly one of the best shows ever made, right up there with Buffy) and Galavant (just plain fun)!

Becky Mitchell

My daughter was born in 2002, as Buffy was ending. But she has seen the entire show and the album from this episode is downloaded on her phone. We play it sometimes when we are in the car together and sing at the top of our lungs.

Lais

it took so long for me to understand that the scene when buffy starts to dance it actually means she was trying to khs, it hits so hard... i love this fucking episode
