This episode is really great. The emotional stuff hits, the character stuff is great, the horror stuff hits and it’s really very funny too. All the aspects of the show that it tries to balance are here in a really great way. Camden Toy, who plays the villain Gnarl, is also one of the two main Gentlemen in the episode Hush.

Something I appreciate about this show is Willow’s journey with magic. From floating pencils to complex incantations. Later, she could simply express her will (I’m thinking of when she cast “Solid” on the hitchhiker demon at the start of season 6). By the end of season six, she could basically l to do anything she wanted provided she had power to draw on. And now that she’s drawing power from outside herself (the earth), she can affect the world without meaning to; magical influence from her subconscious. I’ve no insight into how much planning there was around this in the writers room, but I do like that feels like organic growth rather than the writers doing whatever whenever.

After watching this episode multiple times, I just noticed during the locator spell with Anya, you can see Willow and her reflection in a mirror- two Willows, the one who is there (with Anya) and the one who isn't (invisible to Buffy, Xander and Dawn). Or, the two sides of Willow, light and dark. She is trying to reconcile her two halves, as are her friends. The scene with Spike in the basement is *chef's kiss*, everytime I see it I am amazed all over again. Fantastic direction.

You flay a guy alive one time... sheesh. lol. Poor Willow. You almost said the title of the episodes so many times!!! Every time you said, "Same time..." I was like, "Same place!!!!!" Lol. I love this episode so much! It was fun to know exactly what was happening, like following that random guy off the plane, and watching you try to figure it out. Also, I fricken love Gnarl. I sing, "Gone all gone with a pretty song," way too often. Although I literally did shudder with revulsion when he was snacking on Willow. This is one that I would love to watch you rewatch after you finish the series, because there are so many little tidbits that even after watching it a million times I am like, 'OH!' I think this whole season is since, like others have said, they knew this would be the last season so they threw in lots of references and things. This is also just a highly quotable episode! Oh! And I love Dawn being a researcher, because I loved her as Harriet The Spy growing up. It's a nice little nod to that whether they intended to or not. Plus, it's nice to not have them forcing so much trauma onto Dawn constantly and giving her a more prominent role. I just love Buffy so much! Oh! And I'm wearing my Buffy shirt today by some crazy random happenstance! Really, I own like 5 shirts, so not that random, but still. It's always fun to be Buffy-ed up! :)
