This was actually the first time "google" was used as a verb on any tv show.

I don't think you will cry for this one. I don't think I did. It was sad, but no attachment I guess. EDIT Damnit. I forgot about the tombstone. Now I'm crying. Failed on both fronts lol.

I love this episode, it's honestly one of my favorites. It's giving me grown up season 1 vibes and I love a good standalone which makes you care about the characters

Tears prediction: Yes, twice.🥹😋 EDIT: Now I've finished watching and I can confirm I was on the nose! Yay, me! (And sorry, Darcie, it is a sad one). I almost started crying when Cassie is talking to Buffy and Xander about all the things she wants to do but won't get the chance. It's even sadder on the second watch, knowing the outcome. It also sounds a lot like Buffy and her wants and desires back in high school, knowing she is the Slayer and won't get to have a normal high school experience. Also knowing Buffy likes ice skating :) I'm Jewish- we don't do open caskets. Good on us! But the caskets do look cozy. Maybe we trace the letters on the tombstone to feel closer to those who passed. It's all we have left of them to touch, at least when when we visit the gravesite. I love that Willow brings Tara stones, a gift from Mother Earth. One of my favorite lines in the Buffyverse: "I should be at home in bed, cuddling up to my insomnia and worrying about how I'm going to mess up tomorrow." Oh, Buffy-adorably relatable Buffy❤️. Darcie: Kudos to you for understanding the "She'll tell you “ line. I can't tell you how many reactors I've seen who have no idea ("Tell him what? Who is 'she'?"...)😂.

Got to agree on the open coffin thing. Aside from my Dad's viewing, which was immediate family only, I've been to two open coffin funerals and one was disturbing the other just surreal. First open coffin funeral I ever went to was for a friend who had died from a bad batch of ecstasy. His family were Scots-Irish, so they had a full traditional 7 day lying in period before the funeral. Let me tell you, it doesn't matter how well someone is embalmed or preserved, after 7 days of lying in a coffin in someone's house you do not look 'restful'. They had a curtain thing up at the funeral to kind of shield people from getting the full effect, but it was still like, 'Yep, that's a dead body, a really, really dead body'. Second open coffin funeral I attended was for a friend who had hung himself. In that case they had done such a good job with the embalming that you half expected he was gonna sit up and say it was all a joke & he was still alive, which was disturbing in its own way. I mean full props to the mortician, their work was next level, but it didn't exactly help with the whole 'coming to terms with my friend being really, truly gone' portion of grieving when he's lying in the coffin looking like he's just decided to take a quick nap. When it came to my Dad's viewing, that was mainly because the funeral home had a policy of having at least one close family member view the body prior to make sure the correct body was being buried, and Mum didn't want to do the viewing by herself. For whatever reason she insisted that I touch Dad's body, at which point it was like, 'Yep, can confirm the person in this coffin is dead, where ever he is now he's not here, this is an empty shell'. An embalmed dead body doesn't even feel human anymore, it's like you might as well have just put a life like mannequin in there. Thankfully the actual funeral was closed coffin, but yeah, open coffin funerals it's a no from me.

This episode is a tear jerker. Open caskets are weird, but didn't it start as a way to make sure the dead were actually dead. Or is that just urban legend? I don't know, but I don't like it regardless. I love the actress who plays Cassie, Azura Skye! She played one of my favourite characters on 28 Days. Every time she's in something I can't help but be happy even if she's in it just for a moment. And right?! With that Tool Time kid. Pfft. I'm glad he got bit. lol.

This is a great episode and really works because of how damn good Azura Skye is as Cassie. She really makes you feel for her. A very random thing, Willow mentions she wrote Doogie Howser fanfic in high school. Little did they know at the time that Alyson Hannigan would go on to star along side Neal Patrick Harris (Doogie Himself) in How I Met Your Mother for 9 seasons.

When this episode first aired, it was followed by a Suicide hotline PSA by SMG.

Open caskets provide a sense of closure that they are, in fact, dead and not coming back. It allows the grieving to make sense of it in their mind, to see it with their own eyes, and then to move on. Because funerals happen so quickly, I think it's common to still hold onto a sense of disbelief. How could I believe that my mother, (father, friend, etc) who has been there for as long as I can remember, is suddenly just... gone, poof, forever?? I'll believe it when I see it. Object permanence and all that.

Greek myth babes knew Cassie's deal from the name alone. She's a tragic Cassandra. No one ever mentions that, but I've always found it to be a neat little fact.
