Over the last few months Amy, Will, Oz, and several other friends took it upon themselves to watch every single Marvel movie up until "Avenger's Endgame". That's a lot of movies! In fact, it's so many movies, this is the longest review on this Patreon now! And I'm not even in it!

As per usual, spoilers for every single movie on the list. This post is massive and I spent the last three days editing it, so if you want to listen to it in bite-sized chunks I've put stars next to the reviews that were my favorites.

They really like Ant-Man.

SmurfsFetishist7

Surprised by how high Cap ranks. Not complaining though, he's so interesting when they let him commit treason instead of being War Crimes McGee

Aggressively Nill

Insane to drop this out of nowhere on a Sunday night.

JelloApocalypse

I don't believe in waiting to release, the minute I have something I'm showing that shit to people

LuperisLua

This will be interesting, because I have never seen a marvel movie, and I am not sure if this is just because nobody in my family was really into superheroes or because I'm like 10+ years younger than yall or if this is because the MCU isn't such a big thing in Germany?? (If there are any another listeners from germany, correct me if I am wrong.) This is just my experience but now that I'm thinking about it, I have never seen a like superhero comic in any local stores or libraries either? Like ever? The closest I got to watch something MCU-related was the Phineas and Ferb special. And most of my knowledge that I have about the MCU today is from Red OSP talking about it sometimes. So yes, this will be rather fascinating, I expect.

BigMoffers

The only character in the character ranking I wanna know why immediately is the (My brother) Clint ranking. That one shocked me the most

Cosmignon

A beautiful christmas gift of 8 hours of reviews, yaaaay <3

Ignis Astrorum

I haven't listened yet but I NEED the aloha and yam umamusume thing

JelloApocalypse

It shocked me too. It's not my fault Hawkeye likes to show up in otherwise bad movies and have the only good lines in the film. But he keeps doing it!

Daniel

Someone had a lot of fun editing this, in here for it

BigMoffers

It’s completely understandable and fair. But I am disappointed you guys stopped at phase three. So I wouldn’t be able hear your reactions to Ant man Qutamaina. Straight up one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Absolutely ass CG, horrible plot, and Garbage dialogue. I think Scott lang was mostly fine in that movie. So blessings to the good boy

Graham Finch

To be fair, you can really just stop at Endgame. It's literally the end of a decade-long story's worth of movies. After that, Marvel is just throwing darts.

Ash Midnight

Jello: ok this is the last you'll hear from me Also Jello: but wait one more thing

Bob the human

Are you guys over reacting to Ultron or did I really turn my mind because of "cool robot guy"

Spencer Star

Haven’t listened yet, but I’m already confused on how endgame scores so high when I’d put it as one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen

Zobralolz

Just for some added context on the whole Terrence Howard and Don Cheadle switch, the CEO of Marvel at the time, Ike Perlmutter, was incredibly racist and when the second movie was made, they were gonna pay Howard way less than they were doing in the first movie, despite his larger presence in this one, and then he got fired, and Perlmutter was noted for saying “Nobody would notice because black men all look alike” or something along those lines. I might be getting some details wrong but it was a very messy situation.

Incorporeal

As a DC kid, I vividly remember in my 20's watching the dumpster fire Snyder was giving us, while sadly looking over at Marvel's table where the first Captain America movie two years before ABSOLUTELY NAILED the archetype that Superman was supposed to be. "What makes you so special!?" "Nothing. I'm just a kid from Brooklyn." Chef kiss.

BigMoffers

Oh yeah, definitely. Most of those movies at phase 4 are all just boringly dull and bad

Hamyton

An 8 and a Half hour review, we are so back

Thomas Roche

The uma review would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Bebop-G

The bad guy in Iron Man 3 waited for Tony in the rain for 8 hours just like William Pizza Game

Bob Bob

I would be interested in a Yam&Aloha review :)

PurpleIsDebeste

Jello isnt speaking in this review very much but his personality is definitely felt throughout with the audio editing and music

Aikarin

I really enjoyed these reviews but maybe too much as to listen to it all in one go ... worth it

PurpleIsDebeste

i love that everyone forgot where the mind stone was from because they thought the thing in loki’s scepter was the tesseract. because the tesseract and loki’s scepter are both blue. and then the writers realised its confusing to have a set of mcguffins where 2 of them are blue so later films just made the mind stone yellow retroactively

Drednot

Could you imagine how insufferable reed Richards would have been if he was a major MCU character this early?

Drednot

Funniest part about yellow jacket-SPOILER ALERT- he didn't die, he shrank so hard he becomes MODOK

pictrable

oh my god rivals spiderman actually sounds like that?

Colin Hamill

Iron man was the first movie I saw in theaters and the mcu(up till end game) was the last movie series i actually cared to follow so this will be such a treat :)

Jim Reid

That was fun! Absolutely down to hear more stuff from the rest of the crew every once in a while!

Joshua Hislop

About three hours in and Will mentions "If you just want to see one Marvel movie, make it Winter Soldier" I unintentionally was more or less a test case for this, where I saw Iron Man and Hulk on DvD, saw basially no other Marvel anything, and then my friends and I went to see Winter Soldier in theaters when it came out. My experience with this was that it was indeed a Good Movie, Sir, but it very much has the essence (and reality) that you're missing out on context without having watched at the very least Captain America 1. This mostly comes down to the fact that the movie assumes you know who Bucky is going into it, and in my recollection doesn't clarify much about who he is until he and Steve meet up partway through the film and gives you anything to work with context/exposition-wise. You know the fact that it's him and Steve recognizes him is important for *some* reason, the pieces just don't come together as quickly as they need to in a completely cold viewing. It may have been because of how pervasive Marvel/MCU stuff was at the time, but there were other things in the film, like who Black Widow was, where while not as utterly underexplained as Bucky felt, still gave my brain the numb feeling of "I'm sure this would make more sense if I had seen any of the surrounding media", whether that would be true or not. So, having myself still not seen Captain America 1 or any other MCU anything Endgame or prior, I would personally tack a note onto Will's recommendation that a viewing of Winter Soldier is probably at the very least enhanced by accompanying it with Cap 1.

I think the reason they started dialing into the "collateral damage" element of the superhero genre so much starting around Age of Ultron was that Man of Steel had just accidentally made it a part of The Discourse™ when it dropped the previous year, with ripple effects we're still seeing to this day, and so presumably the people at Marvel felt like they needed to answer it in their own films. This is not, crucially, to say that it was a good decision even at the time, let alone for later revisitation. I think Jello is completely on point about why it was a terrible play, no matter the rationale.

Lee

I do wanna say Age of Uktron has 1 single pretty good scene, where they all try and lift the hammer. Its just them fucking around and being friends!

Drednot

Every time a character death is mentioned, that popping sound effect goes off. I was half expecting it to build up to the point that when the snap was brought up, it would just a popcorn sound effect.

Gemprincess

This was very fun to listen to. I really enjoyed spending 8 hours listening to Amy, Oz and Will talk about these movies. it was a nice trip down memory lane with this franchise and hearing y’all’s reviews made for some inspections on the movies. Jello’s editing was also top notch, really funny sound bits and music that was inserted at points that made me laugh hard, when I wasn’t already busy laughing at the really funny jokes The main trio were making. I certainly would be down to hear more reviews done by Jello’s friends. Would be a nice shakeup every once in a while

JelloApocalypse

This was my original idea but there didn't end up being a good moment for it and also that would mean i'd need to add like 7 more audio tracks and IIIII didn't want to~!

JelloApocalypse

Darth Andeddu for sure. I had to dig in my DMs with Arim for that video because him, Will, and me are the only people on earth who remember that obscure clip from the Penny Arcade Podcast

Drednot

I get that. Still a fun bit either way.

Just Some Loser, LOL

"Jarvis, This is too long, listen to it for me" as I'm not much of a movie goer, i missed basically all of these, interesting to know that i unfortunately missed a few gems and thankfully missed some real trash. I don't know how they would have done it, but i wish they kept Thanos's comic motivation to kill half the universe, that being to impress the actual factual Death, but that would have come out of left field cause that only really comes up in the Deadpool comics IIRC, and they (thankfully) didn't make any (Don't look up the Deadpool movies, it's all a big hoax, like Goncharov)

SonicPsycho

Love how you can instantly tell when jello is going to play the national anthem

PrettiestBeardedLady

It is very funny that James Gunn did the Guardian's movies given how much they do cruelty humor and then this year drops Superman that is all about kindness being punk rock.

BigMoffers

It even has a fun little foreshadowing because when Steve goes to try to lift it, it moves like a centimeter. Aww… nice moment before being dragged back into the bullshit

LuperisLua

Being bullied during the Winter Soldier bit with sad music playing but then going back to a completely straight voice to acknowledge that the movie actually good.

Roro

I really like where they took the character eventually, but early nebula does kinda give me piastol vibes, from skies of Arcadia

Moshuma

Talking about Infinity War reminded me of exactly how I felt about their short animated series Marvel Zombies, where, SOMEHOW, Thanos gets zombified while having every single infinity stone with the gauntlet. I want to know how he didn't just delete every single zombie or just overpower Scarlet Witch if she somehow magically just turned him into a zombie. Also zombie Thanos relearns how the stones work in a matter of minutes and continues to lose a fight he shouldn't have. There's a lot of suspension of disbelief in that series too that is too unbelievable to go on for that long but that was the first egregious example that comes to mind, along with zombies beating up infinity stone powered Hulk. It's ridiculous.

Flakops

crisp rat

Cosmignon

abt 2 hours into this so far, enjoying the restrospective on the marvel movies if only bc its a phenomenon i saw happen but never rly saw the movies for it. also side note that link click music gets me every time i swear to god

Cephalo the Pod

Yeah, I'm surprised that none of the trio (to my memory) brought that scene up. I get that they hate Age of Ultron, but that scene really stood out to me (maybe because it was featured heavily in early promotional material).

Cephalo the Pod

I can't stand that every character in Infinity War takes Thanos's motivation seriously. They treat him as a monster, but in a coldly logical way, instead of the death-fetishizing maniac he is. You've got the snarkiest cast of heroes in existence, and *none* of them bother making fun of Thanos's plan?

thunderbolt fantasy review come home

Flaming Olive

Honestly my impression is that Edgy and Irreverent IS James Gunn's bread-and-butter, and that the reason he was able to faithfully portray a kindboy softboy Superman was just because he filled that film to the brim with narrative foils to all-but-drown-out the kindboy-softboy.

Flaming Olive

Superman's enemies in that movie love murder, Superman's colleagues in that movie love murder, even Superman's dog loves murder. I think James Gunn would have gotten bored otherwise or something. ...Fun movie though

CallistoDragon

so the funny thing about thor ragnarok is that the writers clearly wanted to make a planet hulk movie, but obviously marvel wasnt going to greenlight any hulk movies since the one they made was considered a flop. so the writers just wrote planet hulk and put thor in it...

Noah Finch

Really disappointed that they didn't keep his comic motivation of wanting to bone the concept of death, but she's actually Deadpool's girlfriend so he never has a shot

Noah Finch

My only problem with Captain Marvel is that she didn't kill the kree mentor guy. I think it's very odd that she still took it easy on him, by "just" knocking him out. I think she should have just punched his head off

Noah Finch

Spoiler Alert I guess? Both Jello and the Gang are wrong about the stones: They keep the stones after the second snap, which only kills thanos and his army, since they already ressurected everyone, but they do establish earlier that using the time stone to save natasha and gamora, and presumably tony as well, would render the soul stone null and void, and retcon their use for it. (Which is stupid, I think). Later on, Steve who has all the stones goes back in time to return them all, and comes back as an old man (which is odd because he literally cannot age --- even if he can die)

Noah Finch

Also I don't like Captain America's ending because so much of Cap's story is about being the man out of time, and coming to terms with his new world and this new family, and then he leaves it all behind for someone he, quite frankly, doesn't know anymore (it's been 10 years for him, and probably about that long for her). Especially given that he literally JUST got bucky and sam back, the former of which he hasn't gotten to spend more than a week at a time with for the last aforementioned decade, but he still does know. He does look like Joe Biden and that is good

Friedrich the Bone spider

I have memories of enjoying Age of Ultron, but honestly, I think it was just because I adore James Spader and was cheering whenever he was on screen. This was fun! I did enjoy hearing other people from the expanded Jelloverse, and also editor Jello popping in from time to time.

Hamyton

Alright after watching I can atleast for most of them be like “oh yeah that makes sense” then you called guardians 2 bad. For some reason even though it’s the guardians movie I like the least it hurt the most to see put down. Like I understood why you didn’t like guardians 1 your criticisms made sense and it clearly wasn’t a movie for your group (I like the humour and the jackass attitude between the main characters, it felt like a really good dynamic to me). But your criticisms on 2 feel off, either though my rewatched I have misunderstood the yondo, or you have. I always took that part of the story and yondo dispite being a bit of a dick to Peter and actively kidnapping him he ended up growing attached and practically sacrificing everything for him (failing the job which is why he became and outcast and trying to keep him safe afterwards as why his cru turned on him). And again I enjoyed the more rough around the edges characters whose main joke is poking fun at others and being light assholes. But yeah other than that I agree with everything I can to at-least some extent, I will definitely be watching winter soldier in the future

Hamyton

Also I would want more stuff without jello like the yam and aloha uma ranking, this was fun

Draden Cake

I will also add on to just how forgettable Thor: The Dark World is that the ONLY thing I recall was 1 scene that I hated as a kid with less developed critical thinking but the second I left the theater rapidly understood what it was saying and stuck with me as a “wow, words can mean more than they say! ~Media analysis wooo~!” Towards the end where it’s something like Thor is rejecting something for Odin and he goes like “Is this the voice of the God of Thunder or Jane?” To which Thor responds- “When you speak do I never hear Mother?” Definitely giving the movie to much credit since it sounds Odin was made into an ass but this is about all I can add to a very well articulated and fair review! Look forward to hearing more from y’all if you do this again!

Folkloric

Easily my favorite thing about Vulture was how grounded he was. In a franchise obsessed with the badest of bad villains who want to all destroy the universe, it was such a breath of fresh air to get someone who didn’t just to not want that but not even want to fight the Avengers.

Another Warren

Will's renditions of Hank Pym are so glorious.

SonicPsycho

From what i remember shang chi had some really good fights

JackofCoins

I mean, they made a Planet Hulk movie but removed all of the legitimate drama and pathos it had and made it into a series of jokes. Miek blew up a planet in the comics specifically to make sure that Hulk kept killing people, in the film he's a cameo for a joke. I like Thor Ragnarok but it really does those comics dirty.

JackofCoins

I have to disagree with y'all about MCU Peter Parker. His relationship with Tony just feels really wrong for the character. Comics Peter is a pretty independent hero, and it feels weird that he's so much like a puppy following "Mr. Stark" around. It doesn't help that I really don't like Tony (I note that he definitely doesn't register Peter under the Accords that he destroyed his friendship with Cap over). Also, while that bit where Peter helps people out at the beginning of the movie is cute, it also feels like the MCU is mocking the concept of a "Friendly Neighborhood" Spider-Man. Like, he never gets over his desire to be something more than that, when his street-level activities should be foundational to his work as a hero.

PurpleIsDebeste

i mean yeah if you want to recreate comics spiderman then he would need to be an independent hero who values his street level activities, but this isnt comics spiderman, its a different character, so of course they have different traits especially since there are 2 other spiderman trilogies that are about that type of spiderman

Moth1221

I loved this review, these three are my favorite people to listen to. Will and Yams in depth review and analysis and oz’s enthusiasm, it’s so enamoring 10/10 (but it’s so obvious marvel rivals is jellos only marvel exposure 😭)

TheOneAndOndi

I am very amused by Jello's like, Deadpool-esque sidebar

Bulbanine

I used to be really into the marvel movies in high-school. Because ya know.... high-school. But it's funny how almost all of your first impressions of the film reminded me of exactly how I felt when I first watched them. Only real difference would be my impressions of Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange. They weren't my first Marvel movies but those are the ones that got me to start keeping up with the franchise. Guardians I liked mostly because I had never seen a movie with that kind of vibe before and just loved the music and aesthetic. You can see why people fell in love with James Gunn as a director. Even if his style isn't to your personal taste. Doctor Strange I only liked because I wasn't normal about Benedict Cumberbatch at the time and really no other reason. That one scene with the slow lightning is pretty cool though.

CallistoDragon

yeah thats true it is pretty gutted in order to make it more of a comedy romp but its interesting to see the bones of planet hulk in this movie. i do wonder if the writers had they gotten to make an actual hulk movie based on those comics if this was always going to be the intended tone or if the script was more serious at first but they knew the execs wouldn't greenlight their project unless it was 'funny'.

kiahl

Finally have the time to listen to this and I'm sure i'll have more thoughts later, but right now Will going 'give me the bone juice' describing Abomination made me laugh so hard I popped some joints in my lower spine and felt tension release, this review is LITERALLY good for your health Edit, also at 6:52:00 I LOVE them calling Corvus Glaive 'Sticks the Goblin' when talking about him and Proxima Midnight Second edit: it's SO NUTS how badly the movies kinda fuck up Starlord, cause as a fan of the comics the dude from the Duggan run with the cancer verse and the death of Thanos is NOT the same dude in the movies, that guy is Space Captain America who traps Thanos in a pocket dimension with Nova and then goes 'as long as i stay alive longer than it takes you to reach that portal, I win'

Kruh-Daze

THANK you. Tony's treatment of Peter was the last straw in my giving a crap about him.

Roro

I just rewatched avengers and I have to say, I really think that was the peak of iron man as a character. The biggest thing I noticed in this movie is that Tony Stark is like unquestionably a jerk, but he’s a jerk who knows what he’s talking about and has genuinely good intentions. And I don’t think those two sides of him ever found the same balance as in The Avengers. The two big things that Tony is like stubbornly difficult about have to do with Shield and Bruce banner, and in both regards he clearly has a point. Tony was straight up right about Shield having the questionable goal of developing weapons. And on top of that he’s able to pick up on how manipulative the whole avengers initiative is. Which is a suspicion that something he and Banner bond over. I think my favorite part of his character was how affected he was by Phil Coulsons death. Steve Rogers is a good person but at the end of the day he’s a soldier. And so he sees Coulsons death as something honorable and tries to sanctify it. But Tony gets pissed off and snaps at Cap basically saying that they aren’t soldiers and that nothing can justify Coulson’s death. And like, Coulson went out doing something he was proud of, but Tony is pretty valid for being disgusted by how Coulson had to go, especially with how Fury used his death to basically guilt the Avengers into fighting for him. And in regards to The Hulk, Tony keeps prodding Bruce and trying to make him angry, which seems like a super irresponsible move and kinda is. But Tony reveals his true intentions when he talks about how he views his own arc reactor. Something that can be seen as a curse but can still be used for good. Which is what he tries to motivate Bruce into doing with The Hulk. That particular character arc doesn’t really go anywhere, but it is a solid and understandable motivation for Tony Stark to have. Also I like how in the end, Iron Man is the person to almost sacrifice himself to save the city. It’s a nice call back to Cap and Tony’s earlier fight where Cap called Tony out for being too self centered to actually put himself on the line when it mattered.

Loke Ho

one might say you had strange feelings for him

Veeson

This was great, hoping we get more of this. I know this is extremely unlikely, but would love a ff14 expansions review from them.

ConstantlyBen

In infinity war, I think Thanos has delusional love for Gamora. And it doesn't say something you love, just something you love most. Easy enough for a madman. Also, I think they didn't get the one in however-many-million chance. I think strange could onky see the planet he was on so had zero clue what variables caused him to turn to ash or not. Entirely not text. That thought comes from chats with friends back in secondary school. (Highschool if your American.) Another thought a friend had was that the final fight and tonys snap was either part of Stranges plan, or where the plan went wrong. Again. Not in the text. Just having fun thinking about the fun movie as late teenagers.

ConstantlyBen

This videos great. You lot break down these movies really well from a specific perspective. I am biased your favourites were 'Winter Soldier' followed by 'AntMan 1-2' and mine was that in reverse. Jellos editing is fun and quite well done for an hour long video. This is not an hour long, it is really good work. We got a little extra movie review from him with civil war. There's also a lot of times he edits himself in and sounds like he's part of the call rather than an addition. It wasn't every time but a good six to eight times it was fantastic. You fellows also hold a lot of the same gripes with tropes and dynamics that are used so often. The problem Marvel has where they bring in an interesting and important mental or physical issue for a character. Then make fun of it rather than deal with it in any healthy way. Or changing characters between movies. Dumping solution characters in the sewers in scenes where they simply should and would be there and fix the thing. But just stand on the side. The heart in the antman movies is so sweet. Also issues in movies such as 'The Guardians of the Galaxy' arguing all the time and being really cruel to each other. I hate when a movie thinks bickering=funny and decides to make characters just hate each other. Bickering is fun. Small inconsequential back and forth. -"Just like back in college" "When you tripped and knocked me into a bush?" "Shhhhh" -"Perfect landing" "Eh I've seen better." (I wrote two paragraphs for each of those examples. I have moved those to my docs it's too much for a comment.) The characters have to hold love for one another before they can take little pot shots. They can't just beat each other with hammers and end the movie saying they love each other. Too many movies do that. Especially a lot of the movies Jello reviews in his Animated Batches. The act three break up and reunions that aren't earned and the characters are not good for each other. I could chat about that forever. I haven't seen Black Panther since it came out. I was fourteen. And I really didn't like it. For two probably dumb reasons but one is quite personal. 1-They killed Klaw. For some reason right before Black Panther I really liked Klaw as a villain in something else, I didn't read comics but I liked the sound-hand guy. Then they killed him and I realized Marvel had Killed most of their comics biggest reoccurring villains. 2- I was fourteen. This is the first movie where I saw the CGI in that final fight in the mine and said. "I can see that, that's a mid-fight in engine Xbox 360 game. I was playing one this morning." Something clicked in my brain after that and I can see most CGI immediately now. It retroactively changed a lot of movies on a rewatch for me. Valid reasons to not like a movie? Maybe, probably not. Here are some bad reasons I like three movies you guys hated. And I agree their not that good. Age of Ultron. Keep Ultron on the screen. His voice is fantastic and his army of cobbled together machines are so cool. I love robots, all the mechanical parts that move, click and whirr to do simple tasks. All the smashed robots with exposed internals. I loved that stuff! A scene with Natasha? What- ooooh. I purged that from my memory. That's really bad. Guardians of the Galaxy. It has a cast of characters that are really mean and cruel to each other. It feels like it's building to a moment where they collapse into a friendship that never comes. As a kid I was upset they started the second being just as nasty as they were in the first. (Except Groot and Drax, they are precious.) I agree with pretty much everything you said about those two movies. Except for Drax being cruel to Mantis. The way those scenes are written it feels like he's trying to be nice but that lack of awareness and understanding he has makes it come out wrong. That's how I always saw those scenes. I might have to rewatch and see if I was making it up. Guardians of the Galaxy has something though. Some specific vibe or tone that my brain clicks with. I like both movies. I'd gladly rewatch them. And I do not know what it is. By all accounts these movies should not be for me. It might be the technology? But it isn't I rarely remember the technology. I remember the final fight around Egos core. With the duck tape and the drill. I don't know. Fantastic review. I already commented once about infinity war. I should have waited until I'd finished this to comment anything. But ah well. I paid money for once I can comment twice without feeling too rude! (Lie) Sorry the ramble was long. Hope you didn't read it all. It's mainly notes to see if I change as a person with opinions in the future. Thank you for this review it was a great listen two while I worked.

DarwinTm

Weirdly, I think I disagree with the way Captain America went out. As a character, he’s kind of the moral compass in the Marvel universe in the same way Superman is in DC, so having him never really find his footing and banishing him to the past is wasting him a bit. Black Widow only getting more characterization when they plan to kill her off is also pretty fucked. Other than that, I’m pretty much on board with the rest of this.

NebulaNoob

It'd be fun to see you guys review the "best of" Multiverse Marvel media like the two other Spider-Man movies, the Hawkeye show, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, etc but I understand why you'd end it here. Theres no point in reviewing another dozen+ movies where the synopsis is "oh, its boring and the characters are bad" repeated over and over. Alternatively, just watch the first and third seasons of Daredevil and imagine a better story from here.

Bolt Vanderhuge

I feel the need to completely disagree on Black Panther being a bad movie. Might just be that I found the jokes and action sequences enjoyable more often than not (the CGI sequences really are terrible, though). I also think you aren't giving this movie enough credit for the characters' motivations making sense and their abilities being handled consistently. It's really nice that, unlike most of these movies, the writers don't constantly stretch those to fit around the plot. That makes it one of the best executions of the Marvel Movie Formula, IMO, which would still be true if the movie had nothing interesting going with its themes. Obviously Disney didn't let Coogler make Sinners (2025) and put the Marvel Studios stamp on it, but he still manages to fit a lot in. There are certainly problems with it that I could get into. I agree that the meta textual reasons Killmonger has to be an unreasonable villain (and Ross gets to be a good guy) overshadow the genuinely impressive job the writers do working around those MCU restrictions. But every other movie on this list is also a Marvel Movie with a Hollywood approved ending. I think that Black Panther getting as close as it does to being something better is more impressive than it is disappointing, and I don't think there's anything wrong with liking a movie that could have been better. Especially when most Marvel movies don't even show that potential. Like, I think it's honestly just Fine (complicated), even though I liked it a lot, but I'm really annoyed by how harsh that gap between those tiers seems. Y'all spending most of the review pointing out how good parts of the movie are, then writing it off as Ultron-tier garbage, and the audience enjoyment of it as appreciation for scraps, baffles me.

LittieScorp

The editing on this is genuinely divine, it got me almost every time

Finn Underwood

Interesting picks. Winter Soldier is widely accepted as the best and Dark World as the worst (so that checks out) but you not liking Yandu and the repoitre between the Guardians does explain the low GoG picks (despite most people putting them quite highly, especially 2). The real interesting things to see were Endgame being dramatically higher than Infinity War, and Black Panther being so low. My opinion of Black Panther is mostly "It’s important because it made a billion dollars as a February release - a month whete films go to die - and that huge bank turned studio heads to realize there's a market for primarily-black-cast films, which opens the doors for more films". Killmonger winning in the end is fun, and I like how it feels different despite admittedly being limited by the formula. And Infinity War I liked except for Gamora's death which was such a stupid moment - "sacrifice as a test" is morality 101 and by killing her Thanos proved he didn't love her. Waste of one of the few female characters with a personality in the show.

So the infamous Age of Ultron "You're not the only monster here" line. It's clear the intent was Nat was expressing how she willingly let her body be formed into a tool for killing - how she deliberately and knowingly sacrificed her ability to create life explicitly to be better at removing life from the world. (She brings this up because Bruce is afraid his kids would inherit Hulk-genes, so she explains she can't have kids in the first place.) In context, I see what they were trying to say and why Scarlett agreed to read the line. I do however agree it is not well thought out and either was trimmed in the edit or just poorly planned from the start, and it's entirely valid to call it out for being easy to misinterpret.

You guys hit on every talking point that I hate about infinity war, (especially the shit about the portal cutting the arm off, all the other stupidity is frustrating if you have seen one they can do in other movies, but this one was shown in THIS movie) Another thing I hated about infinity war is that a lot of people watching didn’t seem to understand that Thanos had a terrible plan, a lot of people were weirdly like “he’s got a point there’s no way to solve the resource problem” and I’m just like “bitch he HAS REALITY ALTERING WISH POWERS JUST WISH FOR INFINITY RESOURCES” it’s a dissonance born from trying to turn his comic book character into a sympathetic villain and it sucks. When he killed Gamora for the soul stone he should have failed to get the stone because he really didn’t love her and just wanted control over her. Him sitting around with a literal nazi being somber just makes it more insulting. I also tragically have never seen winter soldier, I was told I could skip it when doing my infinity war homework and the people who told me that were CLEARLY WRONG because it’s been regularly praised as the best one. And that’s all I had to add to the conversation really. Good review fun listen over a few weeks

Seriously!! He also could have wished for people to use less resources, or for a world where no more people can be born once you get to a certain population size. Because seriously, erasing half the people isn't gonna do a damn thing to stop the world from getting back to the same amount of people in a few generations. Or yknow! Just wish we didn't NEED resources to live! I think this is the major problem with the Infinity Stones. It should have been something else with more limitations so there's any kind of logic why this would be the only choice. Thanos isn't MEANT to look like a complete dumbass, so its a major writing flaw that he does...

Jello, to answer your last question, I believe you or someone else in your friend group after Will brought up recent gaming news once said, "Will, I could listen to you talk about nothing for hours" or something of that effect. I could, would, and will listen to you and your friends talk about anything for hours on end in long-form content. Your VoDs on your streaming channel are my go-to listening noise for doing pretty much anything, same with Vixen's content for a very similar reason. I would LOVE to see more edited reviews from your friends.

I love ant-man the character and like the movies fine. But it drives me bonkers the way they talk about him being aquaman. Or how he's really silly, cause like Ant-man is so cool and the mcu doesn't do anything with hank which kinda takes away some of the cooler stuff with Scott. Like I know to most people think ant-man is silly but I've so many stories that take him seriously, like how he is the creator of ultron in most comics, that it sucks that people think of him as a joke... I sound like a spider-man villain "You don't get it! It's not a joke! I MUSTARD MAN WILL RULE NEW YORK!"

Gabriel Davis

"If you haven't seen any other Marvel Movie you'll probably like Dr Strange more." EXACTLY what happened to 14 y.o. me

Enbean

I have never watched an MCU movie and i think overall i dodged a bullet

Major Ghoul

I'm absolutely OBSESSED with the way Will describes everything in the Ant Man movies

So I know this is six months old, but im only just now getting to listen to this, and I wanted to comment on stuff as I go. First off, yes, Will is correct about Iron Man 2. As far as I can recall from reading behind the scenes info, Iron Man 2 WAS supposed to be based on the "Demon in a Bottle" storyline from the comics. There's even some deleted scenes that shows Tony more drunk than anything else, and him getting into arguments with Pepper about it. However, they decided to change this partway through filming because of the huge marketing boom Iron Man 2 had, especially since it was getting really popular with kids. I think it was a worse decision, but I also understand why they changed it. I will edit my post/reply to myself with new comments as I listen, because I love behind the scenes talk about MCU movies and want to contribute my brain worms to the pile

ive listened to this so many times that im confident i could write a full audio transcript from memory. good one, folks

This was a pretty fun way to revisit the MCU (infinity saga) again. I was not expecting the Guardians of the Galaxy reviews to be that negative. Guardians 1 was my introduction to the MCU. I held that film and volume 2 in high regard for a long time. It was surprising to find that I actually agreed with a lot of what you guys said. Those movies are a lot worse than I remembered. This really makes me want to watch Guardians 3 again. I have only seen it once but I remember it as the best of them. I intend to find out if that is still the case. Thanks!
