I hope this is a reference to Interstellar Pig.

Re Japanese foreign influences: What jumps to mind is that Tempura is actually an adaptation of Portuguese fish dishes brought by Jesuit missionaries.

Well, if you’re willing to slog through stuff, then you DEFINITELY have to read The Night Land!

I think the best thing you can say for the gropey ghost in Guildea is, *maybe* it’s like a lonely child or a sad dog and it wants nonsexual affection. (Ramsey Campbell did a semi-comedy story about a guy haunted by a dog once.) Then maybe the advice “give it some love!” makes sense. But yeahhhhhh it does feel sexual…….

Chad is completely correct about Throne of Blood being the best Macbeth and I further submit that Ran (also by Kurosawa) is the best King Lear.

Oooh! I gotta throw my hat in the ring for Gilgamesh. While much of the original text has been recovered, whole chunks, especially in the final third of the story, are missing. This is a unique challenge to a reader and an interpreter of any skill level, and honestly, I as a listener would benefit from and loooove to hear your opinions and strategies for reading a broken, ancient, Weird story. P.S. i think you’ll especially enjoy a part the story of Gilgamesh where Gilgy finally finds the potential source of immortality and will be given that power if he can just stay awake for a certain number of days. This giant Conanesque figure is slaying all sorts of giant monsters up to this point, and yet, he SLEEPS. Same. Thanks for the show!!

I would LOVE to hear both of your thoughts on Alex Garland’s “Men.” The first two acts of the film very much echoes the weird of Aickman, but the third act is… unexpected, to say the least. One of the most daring horror movies I’ve seen recently.

Hearing the disturbing origin story for panpipes, I now REALLY want someone to make analog horror from those old Zamfir commercials! (I'm not the only one old enough to remember those, right?) Tell me this isn't ripe for the Local 58 treatment - https://youtu.be/alhZVEEfH7Q

Wait, wait, wait... There's a listener called Rob Graves?

Steve

I comment on the website as I listen rather than waiting for the end so sometimes you postempt what I say. But nice go at Guy de Maupassant, Chris. You did the hard bits but snuck in an Italian "dee" rather than a "duh" for the middle word.

Steve

I think "The Spoons" is the third in the Aickman trilogy starting with "The Swords" and then "The Stains".

(◕‿◕)Chad, thanks for making my comment sound less snarky (I got stuck trying to figure out snark deletion). I seriously love listening to you guys. You are clever, witty and a very nice guy.

Weird question for you two: How does one get into the movie industry without any experience (mainly production or any non-acting side of it)? Is it just me screaming into the void "I WANT TO HELP MAKE A MOVIE!" or is it just knowing the right people? Thank you in advance if you answered, and no issue if you didn't.
