We're talking about the 2014 vampire film A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT as well as assorted Draculas in the news!

Apologies for the sporadic quality of Fifer's audio and haircut - we're in the midst of an upgrade and some systems are wonky!

‘A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night’ was fine but there is way more skateboard snacking action in ‘THRASHULA’

I was looking in a bin of personal memorabilia recently and was reminded that I saved all the Soap Opera Digest recaps from the 1990s remake of Dark Shadows! I'm curious to see how the *new* new version turns out.

It's a Ghost.

Holy moly, I also looovvved this movie! Like you guys, it kept my attention, despite being slowish, black and white, in Persian, and I had no idea where it was going next. Here’s a third meaning of the movie’s title: she’s a girl who walks home alone at night because she’s simply alone. She doesn’t have anyone else who cares about her.

RE: Vampire Hunter D you could try out the second film 'Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust' from 2000. The art style is gorgeous and not at all Betty Boop! I'm afraid he still has a face in his hand but on the other hand (groan).. Carmilla makes an appearance so that's kinda cool.

It's a Ghost.

The scene where the girl was mimicking Hossein (the junkie), or vice versa, totally reminded me of the short story “The Spider” by Hanns Heinz Ewers.

I'm a huge Vampire Hunter D fan. Dark Horse has translated over 20 of the books. I read the first couple books and they read like pulp fiction. The descriptions of Vampire Hunter D reminded me of the way Howard described Conan. If Chloe Zhao is talking about a sci-fi/western Dracula film, it sounds like she wants to make a live action Vampire Hunter D. Sorry.

I didn't know what I was getting into when I started watching that film, but like you two I was totally entranced. It wasn't really what I thought i expected but I loved it. It made me think that it was kind of what a David Lynch vampire movie would be like. With the dreamy feel, 1950s styles the characters like, and just slow occasional menace, that's the similarity I saw

I'm looking forward to Robert Eggers Nosferatu film, coming out in 2024. Although I think Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre is a perfect film, so it'll be interesting to see how they compare.

I am just up to the Evolution of Horror episode that covers this movie but I wanted to get your take first. It sounds honestly pretty rad, On the subject of having too much entertainment and no patience for it, I definitely feel that way myself. About the only thing I can consume with any kind of regularity is podcasts these days, perhaps mostly because I am doing something else (usually driving) while listening to them. I don't seem to have the attention span for the Golden Age of Television, which is honestly weird. There's a Doom Patrol TV show and I've only seen the first season. What's wrong with me?

It's a Ghost.

I hadn’t picked up on the fact that the movie wasn’t set in one clear time period until you mentioned it on the episode. I figured it was set in the 80s and that Arash was simply driving an old car. Now I look up the songs from the movie, and most of them are actually quite recent, even though they have an older sound. The song featured in the slow motion scene with Arash and the girl is “Death” by the band White Lies, and it was released in 2008! Here is a link to the music video for the song: https://youtu.be/LTh9IuSTOY0

I was supposed to help teach this movie in a team-taught course in Spring 2020 at the suggestion of my colleague, but then we all went asynchronous for COVID and we canceled some of our assignments to make everything easier, and that turned out to be one of them. I still haven't seen it, although I keep vaguely meaning to. Perhaps this episode will help me movie it up on my list. By the way, the "Interview with the Vampire" series is splendid, and I'm glad it's getting a second season. The updates for Louis and Claudia make sense and show us something new, while Sam Reid's Lestat is perfectly the character you expect him to be. Edited to add: It occurs to me that any cereal can be a Demeter cereal, at least as far as the goddess Demeter/Ceres goes. But for the ship, a mashup of Cap'n Crunch and Count Chocula is the most logical mix. (Why don't more cereal mascots have ranks or titles, anyway?)

As an Anime fan, and Vampires. I feel really loved Vampire Hunter D, even the first film from the 80s. But that's in a "so bad it's good" kinda way if you find the original dub. The modern redub for the blu ray is honestly a bit straight and boring. Bloodlust is obviously a much better production and just looks amazing coming out in the early 2000's. So definitely if you "had" to watch one, watch Bloodlust.. both films are adaptations of the novels Hideyuki KiKuchi, which I honestly never touched until recently. They are decent! Especially with some of it's world building (Sci Fi Western) ...but I'm about 5 books in and there are things that become a bit cliche. There is definitely an element of the "strange", and could possibly be worth checkin out for the podcast... question mark?

Chad mentions listening to Greig Johnsons podcast here, but I can't find a Greig Johnson podcast? Is there a Greig Johnson podcast? Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
