I found the hot 100 list you were looking for https://www.billboard.com/lists/bts-solo-members-hot-100-chart-history/jimin/. Their first entry being DNA at #67. Fake Love the first to make top #10. So they were charting with the Korean lyrics. Then gradual build up of the next few singles until Dynamite was the first to hit #1 which of course was full English. A lot of discourse on English vs Korean lyrics but as you saw in the docu they wanted more Korean lyrics but the label was like we have to try more English for the global market.

Hope it’s alright if I add on to your comment. While I do believe they definitely would’ve preferred to write mostly in korean, I don’t think the ‘compromise’ was AS skewed as people think. ‘Aliens’ seems to have been one of the fully English tracks initially but what plays after the montage of them struggling with the English is what we get on the album. As for Normal which I think is the only fully English song outside of Swim…maybe Like animals too, it seems like Namjoon especially STILL had a key role in writing it. It would be nice if there weren’t any external pressures whatsoever, be it globalisation or the time pressure. But it is what it is I suppose. I don’t think they’d sing lyrics they don’t like regardless of whether they’re in English or korean so I’m never too fussy. 😁

This was definitely put together great. A lot of the fun honestly was just grinning at the screen like a fool cuz it really is feel good to see them all together in the moments where they can just hang (perhaps it's time for in the soup S3). I think this really did go to show that there was thought put into this album. They acknowledge that it was rushed but the choices they made were still intentional within that time constraint. I absolutely agree that this makes me excited for the next album to see what they will really do when they can take their time. Either way I do enjoy Arirang for what it is. The songs work for me on a replayability level and I think the tour will reinforce that. The balancing act between being true to themselves and seeking commercial success is also a very real thing and it's not going to go away so seeing how they have these discussions about how to handle it is really cool. I wish they didn't even more in-depth studio chats.

Wow this was such an incredible Documentary. So many heartfelt scenes and it was so touching to see them back together. Seeing their progress, thoughts and what they choose at the end makes this album so much better🤍 I’m down to watch the side shows like epikase with RM and SUGA plus etc..

There is something specific about documentaries regarding Hybe/Big Hit artists. They really do know how to pick artists who are authentically themselves, who are passionate . There are idols who perform , yet there are ARTISTS who create their art . I’ve always loved how the guys are such huge huge celebrities, yet they remain comfortable in their humbleness! They built that company 🥹. Which is why I also feel that’s why they’re so comfortable talking to Bang PD in a comfortable manner , they really did this all together. I’ve seen a lot of discourse about that comment regarding they needed more English to appeal more globally & about the use of English if the album was called “Arirang”. It’s refreshing to see them push for more Korean lyrics, what feels most authentic to them ! Truely, they’ve never needed to push for more western validation ( I think) , a lot of us became fans before they hit it off with their English hits! Really excited for this new chapter

I think coming off of the documentary, maybe Epik High’s episode should be next! Some really nice personal conversations happen

1:35: I THOUGHT THE SAME !! SMH. 16:44 YUP !! That was my reaction. Why THE HELL, they they not keep this song ? I just hope its gonna make it to the next album because that sounded sooo good. 40:09 It ENRAGES me so much that the boys had to explain themselves as to why they should keep or add morean lyrics. I will not argue with the results of their english-only songs charting higher on BB, BUT I (and probably the boys too) feel like we're way past that. I really hope they will have much more fun and freedom for their next album without listening to Nicole and Bang PD. Maybe they wont be as restricted because it's not gonna be the first comeback after such a long "hiatus" as a group. 1:25:34 Why would that woman even say that ? I'm not saying that to be rude or anything but I just dont understand the point of saying "oh your dog's breed is most likely to die early bc of diseases" while jungkook is having fun with his dog, and then she doubles down by saying Bam is on the weaker side of the breed. idk, I found it weird. It reminded me of my dad when we got a white cat, and he said something like "white cats catch diseases easily so it probably wont live long". He said that the SAME DAY we got the cat bruh. Mind you, me and my sister were all happy trying to find a name. Like,,, cant you read the room ? 💀 1:35:08 oh you know rm's verse word for word, bar for bar lol same ps : If you want more of their personal opinion on each song, you can react to their "Studio Notes" live. It's very entersting Thank you for this amazing reactionnnn !!! I loved the documentary ! The album is on its way on going platinum in my household LOL

my fav documentary

@31:20 Yes, but it was recorded at Howard University the HBCU not Harvard. The controversy was surrounding the animated teaser that they put out. Of course most colleges were for white people only during that time so the only college that would take in those Korean students was Howard. At the time that Arirang was recorded there would have been little to no white people on campus because it is a historically black college. People felt that including a lot of white people seeming on Howard’s campus in the teaser and having minimal black people in the animation felt off. Some people thought that there was a lack of research/representation and others felt that the story is more so focused on the 7 Korean students and their journey to record Arirang.
