Fire for 98! Funny thing, most of this painting is not about painting the fire. It's about painting around the fire creating a glowing effect. The first half is wet into wet but don't worry too much about the initial layer because we build and build and build the background up creating layers and depth until we get the desired contrast. I have an outline attached if you don't want to sketch and a reference photo I used as inspiration. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: The palette I'm using today is the split primary palette by letter sparrow: cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, magenta, ultramarine blue, cerulean(probably closer to phthalo blue), indigo and sap green. I don't use all the colors, but I will name them as I mix them. Feel free to use pre mixed convenience colors as well.

Brushes: round 4 & 10 - Princeton brand.

A timely painting! Sitting by a cozy fire in our woodstove right now, 15 degrees outside, 8 below zero last night, and 5-8” of snow on the way!!!🥶

Wow that was a gorgeous building up of layers. The logs were great keeping some outline too. The glow and flames you could feel too. I noticed you don’t use or mention your Polina brushes much any reason for that. I bought 2 after you recommended them and they are good. Have a great day too 🤗

If I had to guess - they hold water VERY differently from the Princeton ones, and since they are so much higher in price I think she's trying to make the supplies as accessible to all as possible.

I find painting with them to be a very different experience.
