See you soon! 12PM MST

This live class will deep dive and cover the basics of this month's technique: wet into wet and water control. We'll talk about the basic elements, how to mix "puddles", how to know the amount of water/pigment ratio you need depending on what you're painting, when to add more water directly too the paper, and how to correct and take water out of your mix and paper. We'll also cover exercises you can practice in your sketchbook and "homework" to help you improve this technique in stress free ways before you start on a painting.

If you are unable to make the class, all livestreams are recorded and saved for you to watch back at any time.

For this class bring your watercolor paints, brushes and paper you're planning on using this year. I'll be using a size 4 and 10 round brush, a piece of arches 140lb coldpress paper, and my split primary palette (cad yellow, cad red, ultramarine blue, magenta, lemon yellow, cerulean, indigo and sap green)

Happy new year! For once I get to join a live when it's actually live - what a great way to begin the year. Thanks, Kristin!

Elizabeth

So excited to actually be able to join. Where do we find the link please?

Happy New Year from The Netherlands!

Vicki

having trouble on You Tube and cant comment there so hope you will check her also!

Michele

Great to start the New Year with you! First timer here from Michigan & oof, I got the time wrong. Looking forward to learning new things with you all, including time zones!

Leslie

I use Viva paper towels. They absorb well.

Laura

I have trouble keeping integrity of the colors in the wells without rinsing brush and adding too much more water/ in context of mixing blue and magenta you showed

Odette Johnson

See the second bloom example of mag and blue up from the bottom? If you notice that happened, but not right away, can you fix it?

Lori

So agree! And the perforated so you can split into two.

Rosa Veldkamp

That's reaaly interesting. I live in Edmonton, Alberta. We have higher elevations and the air is dry. When I make bread I have to use much less flour in the winter when it's even drier.

Vicki

Re: the earlier question about colors muddying on palette: I just watched a YouTube tutorial where they said that that mixing of other colors on the palette helps keep the whole painting more cohesive. Also using a limited palette that is!

Evelyn

My paint is not behaving quite the same as your examples. I’m thinking it’s because I’m not using 100% cotton paper.

Chris

In your magenta cloud example, would you blend the edges or just let them have the spidery marks for clouds?

Evelyn

Also how much difference does your paint brand make?

Jeanette

Have to kick out early but THANK YOU!! I will revisit this entire live again.

marielle

The biggest difference I've noticed in artist quality brands is with Indigo! The Winsor Newton indigo is almost closer to a prussian blue. I use WN Payne's Grey as my indigo.

Anna Chavez

Awesome valuable information . I’m so glad I joined. Participating from Tucson, Arizona.

Noelle

I finally got my hands on a letter sparrow mini pallet. Excited to use it!

Anna Chavez

Love this tutorial! My only question right now is how to access your live on YouTube. I’ve been watching from patron and not seeing other people’s comments. I have gone over to YouTube several times, but cannot seem to find you live.

Laura

thanks so much, so helpful!

Sue Heiss

My daughter came into town for the holidays and was so inspired painted the 10/100 and decide to join painting.

Marian

Hi, Kristin - just finished the live class; I was unable to comment on YouTube and had kicked myself out of Patreon 🙄, but I loved this class. I liked that you talked about the difference in size 10 brushes; I may want to add to my brushes. This was my first live class; I hope to be able to attend more. LOVE the "homework" assignments - emphasis on how to practice CORRECTLY is so helpful. Looking forward to putting this info to work! Will post my "homework" in the chat.

Jessica Ostrow

I just checked Etsy, poemsaboutyou doesn't have the sketchbooks, but she has some on her website. I'll message her and ask if it's baohong paper. The paper in the sketchbooks are 100% cotton. I'm share the link once I hear back from her!

Rex Kung

I just click the YouTube logo in the Patreon video and it kicked me to the livestream on the YouTube site.

Jessica Ostrow

She emailed me that she doesn't have the Baohong paper, but i looked around and besides Amazon, Michael's has it, and it comes from all about art international. They have a website, but i haven't compared prices. I did get a sample "book" of baohong papers, but haven't tried it yet. Check your local art supply stores and see if they have it.

Diane M

Thanks, Kristin....this was very helpful. I needed to watch it with the "rewatch crew" ...and I think I should even watch it again because there is so much valuable information.

Pat Frank

Just finished the replay. Great information…and awesome review of techniques. Thank you Kristin!

Anna Chavez

Thank you, I thought I tried that, but it kept me in patreon. Maybe I was doing something wrong. Thanks again!

Sandy Blackhurst

Is there a supply list I could find with paper, brush’s and paint colors. I’m new and am staying from scratch.

Wardee

Thank you so much! Great class. I learned a lot. Happy New Year!

Rex Kung

yeah make sure you click inside the video's youtube logo. that's what worked for me, hope that helps!

Anna Chavez

I tried it and it worked. Now I know for next time.!

Pat

Excited to start this year’s 100/2026! I still need to finish 100/2025. Will they still be available? Thank you

Harry Brownsell

I need to do this one. This is my biggest issue right now. I either don't have enough paint or it's too wet or top dry etc. When I get time I will definitely be back!

Anne Oconnor

Thank you Kirsten.Greetings from London. Looking forward to the 100 painting challenge. Only joined in November so only managed 6 paintings from last year. Learned a lot from this tutorial.

Lesley

Hi from York England. Happy New Year

Cindy

Hi Kristen! When will the replay be posted?

Kristin Van Leuven

This is the replay! Tap on the play button above and it should start

Cindy

Thank you!!!!

Lindsey Vis

Replay crew checking in from the PNW! I've dabbled in watercolor for quite a few years, but never consistently so I'm excited to practice regularly and improve my skills! This first class was so helpful, I learned a lot already!

Denise C

Replay Crew. Loved this class and corresponding exercises. So looking forward to 2026 Tiny journey! Happy New Year to all!

Suz

I am so pleased to start my 2026 this way. 😁

Maike

Hi from germany, I am sonexcited to start my watercolor experience with you. Have a happy new year. I am looking forward to the 100 painting challenge.

Diane

Would you please address hydrating a dry paint palette? I think I get mine too wet.

Grace Thomas

What kind of journal r u painting in?

Debbie

Thank you so much. This is so helpful. What fun!!!!!

Cindy

This class was so valuable. It’s always good to be reminded of the things we already know, but forget how to use them. I am always using too much water. Now I know how to work on that.

Heidi Matic

Fantastic class, Kristin! Love your enthusiasm and vision for the coming year! I think my confidence is going to rise along with my skill level…all thanks to YOU. ❤️🥰

Nektaria Zapata

Hello! So excited for this! I have a size 12 and 8. Which one would work better as I don’t have a 10? Or should I just get one? No such thing as too many brushes 😂
