See you soon! - 3PM MST

I saw some comments in the chat about frustration over painting the snowy tree in painting 3, so today we're going to do a quick livestream to workshop some of the issues and hopefully clear some things up. Cant wait to paint with you!

Bear Raeb Barrett

Bear Raeb Barrett

I was having a grand time being ghosted lol 🤣

Shelly

Looking forward to joining in. :-). Thanks for the opportunity!

Marlene - VT

THanks! Are you recording this?

Marian

Greetings from Kentucky!

Vicki

i feel like the number 9 tiny painting from 2025 was very similar yet so much easier. I cannot remember what we did differently, all I know is that is was a lot easier to do it that way!

Diane M

Coincidentally, it's snowing here in PA! for inspiration

Harry Brownsell

How long are you planning on being live Kristin?

Helen

Hi from Scottsdale! One of the things I noticed was rewetting the paints on the palette. What do you look for to decide to do that?

ReggieMarieP

I really liked what you said about balancing the challenge you give us. I struggled to make the smaller trees look “real” but this reference page looks like something I can try. Thanks for sharing!

Harry Brownsell

I actually really enjoyed the wet I to wet painting

Ruth

Yeah, I am accustomed to the 2025 painting so this threw me off a bit

Heather R Hare

I feel like 2026 #3 was also painting something that wasn’t there, since we started with the snow clumps. 2025 #9 felt easier because we made the snow shapes with pencil first and could erase and fix things before committing to paint. IMO

lifestorylady

I feel like wet into wet skies are easier than trees

Harry Brownsell

That was a question I was going to ask if you activated your paints beforehand. Good to know.

Harry Brownsell

Kristin, how often to you refresh your water?

Heather R Hare

Just posted my Winsor & Newton dot card in the community chat. Hopefully that helps people with their color selection

Sherri Boyd

I’m having problems withe side colors

Michele Yon

Painting the green on top of the blue was the a ha moment for me. Thank you! Can't wait to try again.

Diane M

I'm slowly getting more comfortable with wet into wet. I don't want to give up onit yet! thank you!!

Marlene - VT

This was very helpful and kind of you to take the time. thanks!

Joalie

Having trouble with background bushes. Mine look like a muddy mess.

Harry Brownsell

The tree live stream you did I found really helpful, with the scrubbing techniques and swiping also the upside down triangle tree was also my best tree.

Kristin Rambo

"painting the snow as the whole branch", was key for me- not - filling in the tree so much that you lose the natural form. Thanks!

Marian

This has been helpful. I like wet into wet - I love the blendy look!

Harry Brownsell

Everyone thinks it's bigger than it is 🤣

Lianne D.

Do you have a preference between a regular round and a long round brush?

Marlene - VT

As someone else commented, love the shrubs on you weekend paintings. Did you record these paintings?

Marlene - VT

Got it! Maybe we could do the shrubs together sometime. So good!

Vicki

Thanks so much for clarifying the difference between last years snowy tree and this wet on wet version, very helpful!

Sherri Boyd

Thank you so much, This is my first live 😊

Jerri

Thank you! I spent last night working on a variety of different ways to paint snowy trees. As someone once said last year: in theory, I get it; it’s applying it that is difficult. I don’t know why. I’m just going to dump a load of practice into snowy trees. Thanks again!!!

Luisa Alvarez

Thank you for taking the time to walk through this again

Luisa Alvarez

I think I struggled most with the bushes actually but thank you again!!!

Stephanie Burke

We're we supposed to wet the paper first? I didn't see that in the first video but we keep saying wet on wt.

Sara Kiffe

This was wonderful. Thank you so very much for teaching the process, and for the beautiful gift of creating.

Catherine Bielen

I love your page of trees. I will try. Love the small bushes.

Roberta

Could someone please point me in the direction of the reference photo? I haven't figured out where to look . Thanks in advance!

Mary A

Look at the bottom of this post by Kristen. It says in blue, underlined IMG_7474.jpeg. Click on that.

Jennie graham

Thank you I was not happy with my tree🥴

Roberta

Thank you so much!

Jeanette

Part of the "Replay Crew". Thank you sooooo much! Couple comments on the video and one insightful realization that helped me tremendously. 1. Until I get faster, painting in sections is a great idea- that way I can practice the technique without having to rewet or be overly sloppy. 2. A video on 5 ways to paint a snowy tree would be so much fun! And the insight: Some of the wet on wet challenge I was having was because of my new paints (indigo and sap green) that had more staining than the other brands I have used. I couldn't lift the new paint like I was used to. I repainted #1 from this year today with my old paints that are low staining and I was so happy with my painting and felt like I accomplished something when I looked at it.

Wardee

I would love to see the difference between your old and new paints!

Amy Hawkins

Can you tell me about the upper left one - did you do the main tree first and then the background around it, or kind of tape off the main tree and do the background wet into wet first? I love that one! Thank you!

Wardee

Where can I get a size 4 round with a "used" aka more rounded tip? LOL

Barbara Kocsis

Found this one a little challenging. I found the background didn’t quite match the scene. It seemed more fall like. Eventually got the tree after a few attempts and watching your additional video. Thanks for that.

Jeanette

I will post them in the chat now. The improvement in the photo is from the paints and the extra practice. But you can definitely tell the areas that I lifted more easily in the one I painted yesterday.

Jeanette

They make size 4 without a more rounded tip. I will post a picture of one I have in chat now.

Wardee

Thank you! 💕🙏🏻

Virginia Factor

No but when you add the green paint to the "snow" the snow is still damp so its wet on wet/wet on damp. I hope that helps.

Wardee

I don't see it yet, will check back soon!

Jeanette

Sorry about that! The paint brushes kept rolling around when I was trying to take the picture, and I wanted to type some extra context in the post for anyone reading it. Hope that helps. Also, those 4’s are soft brushes- you may want a firmer bristle that’s more rounded. So I’m not recommending the brand of brush- just showing how the tip is more rounded.

Marcela

What if we compromise and paint the same subject 3 times in a row , nobody would have to wait a month only 3 classes before you change the subject , I have thought about it since last year and think it will be so helpful. Unfortunately I do not have the time to paint the same painting several times. It is all I can do to keep up 😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for all of the lessons , you are a very good teacher, love doing the tiny paints. 🥰❤️

Marcela

Jeanette , It will be great to know what brand it is that particular brush size 4 with a more pointy tip. Could you please let me know ? I have been struggling with this since last year and I noticed that Kristin’s is more pointy but I have the same brand and size that she uses 😳 Any help will be appreciated Thank you .

Wardee

Found it! Thanks so much! So helpful. 🙏🏻

Wardee

Great class! Thank you, Kristin!

Jeanette

I have princeton velvet touch in size 2 and 8 with a pointy tip. I’ll see if I can find a link for a size 4 on amazon. If I can I will post it here for you.

Diane

Replay crew here. I do like wet on wet and want to get better. I am not so great on negative painting depending on the topic but need to improve that too. Maybe I will try both trees again :-)

Jeanette

Ok Marcela! The pointy tip round is called a “long round”. I found one on amazon. Here’s the link: https://a.co/d/f2BjaYt

Sandy Manning

Replay crew here too and I feel your description and physical painting lined up more than on the first day. I realise for you who have painted for so long must be very difficult to know exactly when to say or describe something. Having said that you do an amazing job in all your description as well as painting which bends my mind! So a big well done to you. I can see how wet into wet is easier it is just getting into the flow of it from the start. I too love those 2 snowy bushes and so amazing how the shadows just bring it to life and become 3D - I do understand that you want your own personal space in being able to paint what you want and not have us ask for a lesson. Trick is cover up some of your own space of painting and you won’t get us all asking for a tutorial on it. Honestly you must feel like we are vultures around a kill at times. I joined your patreo 2-3 months ago when you first showed Christmas cards and I am so happy I joined too just so you know. Thanks for taking the time out your busy schedule especially with having 4 kiddies you are quite amazing. Till next time take care. Ps As I come from africa but live in uk I too love the snowy paintings and last week we had snow but didn’t last too long but get excited like a kid when I see it messaging my 2 adult daughters with glee 🤗

Amanda

Replay Crew Here!! Lightbulb moment, this was EXTREMELY helpful to watch!! My trees look so much better, Thank you for taking the time to go more into depth on this technique!

Carmen

I am part of the reply? Does Kristin plans to post a video of the painting show on the short live? If yes where? Or was it only a reference painting?

Carmen

Ops! I meant replay

Leslie

You make it look so easy! Thanks! This was so helpful. I'm getting there.
