Dragonfly for #18! Jumping into layer and glazing month with see through layered dragonfly wings. Take the dragonfly portion slow, making sure each layer is completely dry before adding the next layer - especially for the wings. For the background, have fun! I chose to do a loose, layered abstract background so the detail focus would be on the dragonfly. The most important element of the entire painting is making sure you're using very light washes when layering and glazing in the wings, and darker layers when you build up the detail on the body and the background. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: For this project I am using a split primary palette- cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, magenta, ultramarine blue, cerulean, indigo and sap green. The colors I'm using today are - cad yellow, cad red, perm. rose, ultramarine blue, cerulean, indigo and sap green.

Brushes: round 4 & 10 - Princeton brand.

Kristin, could you please tell me what mechanical pencil do you use or recommend? Lead# and size? Thank you 😊

Rainie

Thank you Kristin💜

Thank you, Kristin!

Hi Kristen! I haven’t seen this asked, but what kind of masking tape do you use? I envy how confidently you pull that tape off knowing it won’t tear your paper! 😆 thanks for these fun lessons, learning SO much from your skills!

Kristin Van Leuven

You're welcome! I use Scotch tape "home and office". I think the paper type you use determines more if it will tear. The heavy cotton paper I use is Arches and I haven't had an issue with it tearing.

I’m newbie just now and need to try this one again. Love the painting. I will go back and start at the beginning. Where can I find the cute 3x3 plastic sheets to hold these paintings in book form? I saw on your YouTube video somewhere. Thanks

Marlene

Amazon has the photo albums, holds 3x3inch

I hadn’t said anything until now, but I LOVE the way you are mixing in a separate small pallete❤️ It has really helped me with everything about watercolor! Especially these paintings with you 🥰 Thank You

Perhaps you've answered this before, but what tool are you using to dry the layers? Is it a small hairdryer, or a specific paint drying tool??
