Spring birch trees for #40! I really excited to show you how to lift out tree trunks while the paper is still wet in this one. Watch the first part of the painting all the way through first so you can see how the wet into wet colors work together and how quickly I lift out the tree trunks. All other parts you can take your time building up layers of color in your leaves and trunks. Remember that leaves are just blobs, and you can build those blobs up slowly, but the key is to leave gaps so the blobs look like leaves. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: For this project I am using a split primary palette- cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, perm. rose, ultramarine blue, cerulean, indigo and sap green. The colors I'm using today are - cad yellow, cad rose, sap green, and ultramarine blue.

Brushes: round 4 & 10, 3/4" flat - Princeton

Kristen, do you use the professional Windsor & Newton paints? I’m trying different paint brands to see how they vary in lifting.
