Hydrangeas for 57! Starting with clean water and lots of wet into wet splatters, we build up the general shape and texture of the base of the hydrangeas. Using the sap green, we can negatively paint around the flower edges to give them more defined shape and detail. Use splatter to build up more texture, move color with water, and lean into the loose style using deeper colors to define the shadows and the circular shapes. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: For this project I am using a split primary palette- cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, perm. rose, ultramarine blue, cerulean, indigo and sap green. The colors I'm using today are - perm rose, cerulean, sap green and indigo.

Brushes: round 4 & 10 - Princeton - 3/4 flat for smacking splatter

I'm ridiculously excited about this one! I've been obsessed with hydrangeas lately and trying to figure out how to paint them.

Love this! Re: negative painting + splatter, I’m like the little red engine: I think I can, I think I can!

I’m so excited! Thank you, Kristin. This is going to be great!

I overworked it - had to lift darkness out and finally resorted to adding pink with a Qtip! This one will need a do-over. Yours is so pretty!

Love this tutorial - @Kristin: hope you have a month dedicated to “Shadows”!

I love the colors but I can’t tell mine are hydrangeas!

Which brand of these primary colors do you recommend? I want to get better at mixing colors.
