Playing with the dice makes so much sense but never occurred to me when picturing the game

Marcus

Not in store?

wick

But Murph, what happens if i just fucking summon Exodia: The Forbidden One?

han!!!!

using the dice for the hp so you can count down is brilliant

Cosmopunk

I remember listening to this episode and thinking "How the hell is he making this work in Theatre of the Mind???" Knowing it was a physical thing makes me feel a bit better

David Griffin

Which side was Eladrin and which was the Giants? I thought the Giants were d10 but could definitely be mistaken

Nick Gamber

those are actually dice, hope this helps!

Baka7

How does he make it look so effortlessly easy? Truly a DM for the ages.

I will say, I have such a strong disdain for dice that don’t have the standardised number organisation😅 Like, on nearly all dice, the numbers opposite each other should equal one more than the total sides on the die. For example, the 6 and 1 on a d6 should be opposite each other. The d8 should have the 8 and 1 opposite each other, and so on and so forth. Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone care? Bc I see d8s with the 8 and 1 right next to each other and my eye starts twitching

Totally Offside

Won't be long before Mittens ruins this game for everyone.

wick

The giants will never stand a chance

han!!!!

edit bc i was wrong at first: giants do d8 damage, eladrins do d6, dragons do d10- giants and eladrin had 8 hp tho which is i think why they’re all d8s

Waiting for the official game to drop in the NADDPOD shop.

The craftsmanship of that game board blows my art skills to smithareens. But thankfully, I heard that Murph plans to send official replicas of the game to all PawPaw's Paralegal, and higher, patrons for free...you will just need to supply your own dice!

Jeremy Umpleby

I see how they kept track of the pieces' HP. It's quite brilliant.

Clyffe

The chess variant that's kind of sweeping the nation. Can't wait for the competitive league championship.

Logan

Beautiful.

HolyFatFish

gotta say, comparing this to chess is pretty insulting to chess nerds!

Olive

it's not that deep

This is the kind of quality content I expect and demand from my premium subscription.

Antonio

This kind of reminds of that little place called Bahumia

I think they may be spin down dice. Dice meant to be used as life counters in games like Magic: The Gathering and such. Sequential numbers are always adjacent to each other to allow for easily decreasing/increasing life points. Normally they're d20s, but I guess d8s can also exist? But basically, they're not made for rolling, so they won't follow the "opposite numbers on opposite faces" rule (as good and proper dice should). Either that, or those are just shitty d8s.

DazWaz

This game sort of reminds me of Onitama. Maybe look into that board game to refine the play of this spectacular mini game.

oh i didn’t notice that initially!! that’s so smart!!

The strategy makes so much sense now. I nerd-saw the turns play out and yes, there was no other way. Beautifully played.

I was thinking about a couple minor tweaks to make this game a bit more robust. Here are my ideas because nobody asked and i'm wasting time at work: - Add one more column so there are three columns instead of two. - Give each player 3 action points per turn which they can use to either Move or Attack with any of their models in any order. - Swap the dragons to only moving one space at a time and spreading their damage across all adjacent models (if an 8 was rolled for damage and there are two enemies in adjacent spaces, those enemies would take 4 damage each) - Change the dragon movement to have a chance (perhaps a 1 on a d4) to pursue the other player's closest target instead of the closest target to the dragon. This would help with dragons focusing down the closest army and simply wiping them out. - Swap the giants to 2d4 instead of 1d8 for a bit more consistently powerful attacks. - When a model makes an attack, any additional allied models in contact with the model being attacked adds 1d3 of additional damage.
