Lorelei and Kyra Newly Weds

Hey Murph just a heads up there is a movie from Tom&Jerry talk to each other and save a kid, they give the reason for the chase being that they never talked or something before hand. That was a trip as a child since no one else know what I'm talking about

knitted cape

With both of these entities that each have the ability to see into the future (one being with artificial intelligence and the other good ol’ fashioned divining) squaring up to battle each other, in a real way, this is the NADDPOD Duel of the Fates

tacticalgrandma

Caldwell, you can buy just kyber crystals at Disneyland! They have a whole wall of them at one of the gift shops.

M

Absolutely want that VRMMORPG campaign

Grrafe

It's such a fun idea, and I could only imagine how fun the prep/world building would be. Like, just going through different shows and playing actual online MMOs to get inspiration would be so fun. Also just a lot of fun to poke at gamers in general lmao.

JK

You know what @Murph, if you struggle with watching phantom menace, take a look at the Jar Jar Binks was a Sith Lord the whole time theory. I seriously think that was George Lucas’s plan the whole time and it makes you see the movie in a whole new way

Anna Sun

Murph is definitely right about younger millennials and the prequels. Jar Jar was delightful to me as a 5 year old—and he still is now

Z Carthy

Ya know, a Star Wars 5e one-shot has BIG Mixed Bag energy 👀👀👀

Shez

I'm SO here for the dot hack campaign....

Armadon the only

After they watch the prequel, they should watch the red letter media plinket review

Lamp

The Irish Goodbye by Emily at the end had me in tears

Emma

Emily, I loved Nettle & Bone! So glad you’re enjoying. Two other book recommendations for ya based on witchy fantasy vibes—Thistlefoot and One Dark Window. I think you’d love both!

Smiththebat

And they work in the compatible lightsabers and they actually make the blade the colour corresponding to your crystal! 🤙🤙

Renee Wild

Emily is iconic for that last bit

Vonvonvon

Y’all need to do a Starwars Oneshot!

Nick_Nack_Patty_Whack

You have to discover all the nests. Could you make alts for mmo campaign idea? I liked how a chaotic entity (Havoc) was able to weaken a lawful entity (Alexandrite, but this might be a stretch). And May the Fourth be with you.

Raedeb

Emily please read the Gideon the Ninth series if you haven't already! Badass necromancers in space with swords!

sabertruth19

Loving the Tom and Jerry bits. For Emily-they were on Welch jelly/jam jars (which after empty make a good juice size glass). I know because I struggled through eating grape jelly to collect all of the designs as a kid (strawberry jam was and still is my jam). And because my mom is wonderful, she saved them for me through multiple moves and they are in regular rotation now at my house. Might have less than a full set now, because gravity and glass, but probably the first thing I remember working for as a kid!

Ben Delahay

I hope they never let that Tom & Jerry hater Jake on any 8 Bit Book Club.

jaydon

campaign 1 ep 17 right around 23-24 min yall make a tom and jerry joke and jake also makes one so he knows

larzipan

Popping in the comments to recommend a game to Emily - Indika. It's kind of like a brief but severe Slavic orthodox religious trauma rollercoaster.

Ilana Galpert

OH MY GOD YOU'RE READING NETTLE AND BONE!! T. Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon is one of my favorite authors. *strongly* recommend the seventh bride (which has a similar tone) and Thornhedge, which is just the most heartwarming beautiful book

Ilana Galpert

Also if you're into dust wives, the seventh bride has sooooo many wives--there's a clock wife and a golem wife and no spoilers but someone does have a bear

Ilana Galpert

the bear isn't a wife tho, sadly

Joshua Daley

Northern Lights representation in NADDPOD finally!!!

Ilana Galpert

Edit: If you read any of these at all, read the ruthless lady's guide to wizardry. I recommended it to my mom and she loved it, even though we rarely share taste in books. I'm sorry if this is too many recommendations but based on this, there are some books I think you might like--not similar, exactly, but, much like kingfisher, they have distinct voices. 1. The ruthless lady's guide to wizardry 2. the scapegracers 3. the mountain god sleeps on it's back 4. light from uncommon stars they are all very gay because ngl I'm very gay and so are most of the books I read. it is physically paining me not to recommend more books but 6 is already too many so

MJMM

Listening to this on Star wars day great timing lol

Shy-senpai

#whereisthedirtyguppycut?

Meghan

"Same grade at work" really got me

Keith Kelly

Y'all should check out the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. Book one is called "Gardens of the Moon." It's a very good high fantasy series.

Francy

Has anyone else been writing down books emily reads? Every suggestion so far has been a banger

Nalyd

So I know Jake said he wasn't going to look at other feats, BUT have you guys looked at the giant and planar stuff that WotC put out recently? There is a feat tree that starts with Rune Shaper (from "Bigby Presents: Glory of Giants") and one that starts with Scion of the Outer Planes ("Sigil and the Outlands").

Matt Gustavson

You can buy just crystals at some gift shops!

Mackenzie Dobson

I’m conflicted bc I’m both so excited for the next ep but I don’t want this to end 😱😭 really quick question - if next arc is the last arc, and it’s faewild, are we ever gonna catch up with Hardwon and the rest in the astral plane??? Did he save Beverly and moonshine???

Jerren

Now I really wanna see an SAO based campaign 😳

Mila Janus

I just want Caldwell to know that you can buy kyber crystals at Disney! I have 😅

dummythixon

I say this ALL the time and it's so cool to see someone that agrees!!!

rob b

Murph I must ask did you honour the cock?

MacKenzie Tobias

I was gonna say! They literally already make these as necklaces! With little Star Wars quotes on the metal holding the crystal and everything!!!

Mila Janus

Oh neat! I was thinking of how they sell them for the custom lightsabers!

Katie P.

I'm really liking the T. Kingfisher books, they feel very folkloric and kind of darkly medieval in a way that's not completely depressing

Ann Zhu

Love the MMO campaign idea!

jackalope503

Fully agree that Murph absolutely nails the way he narrates Sol’s movement. He’s like a frog Rey Mysterio

MellE

For the MMO idea check out DIERPG, it is basically what y'all described. You play real life people who get sucked into a ttrpg and then get special powers, I'm sure you can theme it as a vr mmorpg.

Heather Fleming

There’s a book called Crudrat by Gail Carriger that is about children who clean the vents in a spaceship that have little animal friends called murmels if anyone is looking for a book with a dust/lint/vent cleaning vibe 😬

Pali Endi

This! I tend to order them and haven’t been disappointed yet. They should set up a page on their site with her quick descriptions linked to Amazon

Gafyn John

Give us more Star Wars talk!!!! I could sit here and listen to them talk Star Wars all day. Go watch Clone Wars and talk about it!!!!

Leo

I honestly would love a Sword Art online style campaign

Ali Cat

.hack mention babeyyy (true kings know it's worlds better than sao 😌🫣)

Ali Cat

jk, I'm not knocking what anyone likes in a serious way~

Morning Shift

I was gunna say this too!! The Sith ones even have a secret black Kyber crystal you can find if you really wanna blow money on them (like me lol).

HeroThatWas

I couldn't get into SAO but .hack// was a personal fave. Love the idea of you guys doing a "Trapped in VR" style campaign.

Kendall 🎶

OMG huge T. Kingfisher fan over here. I have been working my way through all of her books since December and having a blast. Amazing to see all the love for Ursula in this comment section. ❤️❤️❤️

Monk3yTouch3r

Can I..uh...get that list you've curated

Francy

I've written down so far; The Poppy War, Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi and now Nettle and bone

Logan Adams

She killed Boris Frigg, she fucked friggis boar; it's your favorite rainy day Dae fave: Calliepie(?) Petrichore¡!

Seasquidley

I always forget Caldwell is Hugh's first name. My son's middle name is also Caldwell (in part because of naddpod)!

cx

There’s a full list of everything they’ve ever given a shout out to and in which episode, including like that two year period where Emily was recommending The Fall, floating around on tumblr I think

cx

Not precisely a lintwife, but the Emelan series by Tamora Pierce has a bunch of different and interesting types of ambient magic users, including a stitch witch who does definitely use lint at points

Tim Read

I don’t understand how the campaign is almost over, I feel like there’s still so much to d😭

Nathan Wilson

I've listened to a short actual play of DIE RPG. It was pretty darn fun! Nathan Yaffee was even one of the players.

MellE

Really? What's it called? I got into DIE through the actual play series "Replay" highly recommend. I'd love to listen to more though.

Bat-Fran

I'm maybe like ~2 years younger than all you guys but I swear Murph's references are spot on for all oy my youth 😂 probably cause it took 2 years for it to hit me in the buck end of nowhere Northern UK 😅🧡🧡🧡 (P.s. yes, dot hack was the series around back then)

Sentry

Omg if all of you were isekaid that would be the best campaign ever!

Christopher Ryder

There is this really great TTRPG called .dungeon that has the "You're playing people playing an MMO" premise! It also has super fun classes, like a wizard that circles passages in a real book to cast spells, a ranger that invokes the abilities of real pets, and a witch that has a number of spells equal to their piercings and tattoos!

Grimmie

On the Topic of Ducts: there's a middle-grade series of books called Gregor the Overlander, where the portal to this underground world (full of huge bats that people ride a la dragons) is in the laundry room of his apartment building. 10/10.

Brooke

Omg listening to this the week never stop blowing up drops! Just makes me want Emily on never stop blowing up even more!!

Erin Curry

Re the capitalization of words for fantasy stories. The threads left on a loom once the woven pieces are cut off are called Thrums which I think might appeal to both Sol’s textiles appreciation and Emily’s musical interests and might not show up in a casual thesaurus search.

Michelle

All this lint talk makes me think of that gum commercial "Who you callin' cootie queen you lint licker!"

gandalfsbignaturals

the prequels are great if u just mute it when anakin complains

Summer Tribe

what is this bizarre copium 2 decades after the fact

Kozai

Listening to this episode again, and can I just say how much I appreciate the ages of everyone involved in this podcast. 🥹 It feels so good to have content that I relate to, with individuals within the same age-range!

Kellyd

Came here several months late during a re-listen to call out the never stop blowing up parallels at the beginning of this ep!!

Ian Mcilwean

Jake sniped Cadwell with the and you mean it. Had me rolling

The Grinch (feral)

During the first lockdown, when me and both of my younger siblings were 17, 14, and 12 respectively, we all would all go outside and aggressively fight with my brother‘s toy hard plastic light sabers, Oppa capture the flag style. If you hit somebody above the knee and under the neck that person was killed. You could then go respawn after counting for 60 seconds, and walking back to the respawn point with your lightsaber above your head, before you could rejoin the fray. The winner was the person who killed the other two before anyone had a chance to respawn. All of us also knew how to use a sword/weapon to a certain degree (my brother had memorized all of the Jedi light saber formations, and me and my sister had gone to what basically amounted to Larping camp years prior) so we genuinely were hitting each other to kill, lol. Nobody ever got seriously hurt, though, at least physically. Emotionally, they were plenty of fights about who won or whether someone got hit or not. And likely somebody got bruised. And I genuinely fully forgot about all of this until re-listening to this short rest right now We also started a basket focused cult that claimed to cure coronavirus through wicker. But that’s a whole other story.

Kasey is a Smaphire

Naddpole that was born in ‘94 chiming in — family also saw the prequels in theaters and my siblings and I️ didn’t love the prequels KOTOR is still one of my favorite games

Max Herzog

I think I'm exactly ten years younger than you guys and that's my exact reaction to the prequels, fuck yeah lightsabers!

Max Herzog

Another episode where I can match Caldwell's passion. This time its for Tom and Jerry
