It sounds like you all were citing The Tyler Precedent

Chase

The rope trick concept is addressed in Mistborn - speed bubbles apply to your inertial reference frame. So a ship or a train moving at constant velocity works, but something smaller like a carriage or riding a horse don't. And I feel like the justices were getting at this a bit - like with Emily citing your bucket hat not flying off your head in your car

ChungleDownBingus

‘I want ham’ - is that a brilliant Ponyo reference slurping under the radar?

Cook

Good afternoon 2 crew

Kellyd

Pathfinder next week?!

Zeon Liberation

Hasn’t this rope trick question come up before?

rosebramblewolf

These beans are faulty, it's just bullettes all the way down.

Nick Lerche

Ok so u tie the rope to the cauldron or the glider and the broken move still works? I don't think justice Murphy's rope fix is as buttoned up as y'all think

Nick Lerche

Either that or banishment, yeah it's familiar

Nick Lerche

Quick heresy: dice Christ wanted to help you make the choice, and you knew the right thing as soon as the choice was made! I'm with murph!

Verdigree

OK, here's what you do, simply overturn the players assumption that this magical world is physically an Earth-Like Planet at all. Make a world that's not a ball of rock in space, make the sun, moon, and stars totally incompatible with real astronomy, you can make a a world that's just a continent suspended in an empty cosmos with illusory stars to hide the terrible truth, the world could exist in any of the pre-existing infinite planes of existence that D&D has, if you're in Hell, you can assume it's perfectly stationary and not moving through space in the slightest, therefore all spaces could be perfectly fixed and unmoving, or space itself may bow to whoever has the magical authority to shape the plane

PandamoniuMonarch

Lost it when Emily was named Paladin of Dice Christ, and then was immediately humbled by the stat egg

Shan

Yeah 100%, rope trick on a boat. Can't remember what episode

Anthony Abreu

I think the rope trick should be case by case but I do think there's a vagueness on the spell the text and the Judges don't address which is why it gets abused.

The Fun Yaunt

I believe it was banishment on a moving boat! And the origin of “The Nightcrawler Defense”.

frogwithhumanhands

If she's a Bichir, they have lungs and can breathe air so she can just talk like normal.

As an update to the bean campaign, I did end up giving it to them with the caveat that the Archmage had curated these and it would be a different d100 table at Judge Axford’s recommendation. In addition, they immediately had to clear out the Mummy Lord from the pyramid they had made, as it was active and close to a settlement. That adventuring day was almost a TPK, so the players have more of a respect for the random table.

Lucas Sharrett

Life would be so colorless if we didn't have NADDPOD, I thank Dice Christ for these folks everyday :)

Claudine

Notorious Bean Hater Brian "Murph" Murphy!

Lucia V.

Amethyst dice confessor here: Thank you for giving me suitable penance! I've bought the doggy dice, and I WILL be haunted eternally, but I will also treasure memories of Glastonbury Medieval Fayre. They're made by Clockwork Arcana, luckily they're on Etsy so I don't have to wait until next year's fayre - if anyone's looking for dice I highly recommend the Dancing Lights D20, it looks like literal magic IRL! I vow never to make a roll unless I truly definitely am going to honour Dice Christ's decision 🙏🎲

Justin Cockrell

I’d love to see the numbers on which dnd spells have been entered into the court the most, because it feels like rope trick and heat metal come up pretty frequently. Also the wild magic sorcerer rolling a fireball lol

Matty H

I side with Fish Realman. In my campaign, I play a Grung bard. Grungs can only speak Grung. The ensuing antics are so much fun

Arthur Neves

Can't believe no one picked up on Caldwell's ponyo reference

Mrbigboy5

I just got membership! This podcast is awesome.

An

the two crew should go to the renaissance fair and do a mixed bag report

AbsoluteCack

Murph doesn't hate bucket hats yet he brought them up out of nowhere?.... Why were you thinking about bucket hats Murph🤔?

Dan Healey

So honored to hear my case, for some clarification on the PVP gone wrong... We started our regular campaign at 12, but most had to leave by 6, so we though we were going to get right to it but ended up having to travel and do a lot of random encounters and even like a fetch quest until we "finally" reached the Colosseum at 5:30. It was the DMs birthday, which is why were doing it in person, we usually play on discord, and no one stuck around for cake lol The DM is also my best friend and all is good and we are still playing in his campaign, but I could not resist the chance to have the Court roast him

Ross Begg

Here is my two cents on rope trick: The space is affected by "gravity" in the sense that it will maintain the momentum of a planetary body, but not the momentum of a significantly smaller thing moving along that body.

FiendishNoodles

I think the best way to handle the rope trick is to treat it as a slightly flat balloon, it's not gonna float into the sky but if no one is holding it it's definitely gonna get left behind

Ian Grossberg

Y’all the Ecco soundtracks are totally bangers, the Genesis ones if you want some amazing underwater adventure synth, the Sega CD ones when I want to relax, zen out 🧘‍♂️

Libbi Longworth

There is such a thing as adopting fish! My first pet was Mary, a supposed goldfish. We got her and 3 other goldfish from a neighbour who had to get rid of the fish in her pond before winter. The other fish picked on Mary and one day she turned translucent, when she turned back opaque, she turned on her fishy friends in revenge. She chewed all their fins off so they couldn't swim, and when they sank to the bottom of the tank she ate them. Any living thing you put in her tank after that, she found a way to kill...plecostomy, snails, anything. I still don't know what type of fish she was, but she was a serial killer, and she lived out the end of her life in solitary confinement.

Lia

Did Fish Reelman become Ponyo there Caldwell?

Nikolaus Cox

I... I am floored... I need to know more about this fish!

Yuncle Ben

Bring back the dvd flip!

Cayden Rabe

Wait wait wait, carrying a box and being able to hide anywhere... SNAKE?!? IS THAT YOU!?!

Ajax

The return of murph’s little beans!

Logan

Roll that beautiful bean footage

Tracy Burns

The DM could make his own roll table to make it more interesting

The Overthinker

If players insist on bringing the relative motion of the Earth into their spellcasting, try this: The Earth spins about 1525 feet per second. The next time a player teleports, have them move 1525 feet east of the combat. If a player casts fly outdoors, have them roll a reflex save to avoid all the trees and/or buildings that are now flying towards them, since the player is at a fixed point in space and the planet keeps moving. If they are indoors, have them take damage equal to what it would take to break through the walls and reach the sky, since it's either them or the building that will break at that speed.

Matt A

That’s exactly what I did, with the explanation that the Archmage had curated these specifically for his purposes. That way the table is still chaotic and will shake up encounters, but is more predictable on my end and won’t get stale.

Nicholas Fennell

Can't wait for the Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine campaign

Cooper Erikson

Listening back Murph was way more upset with the Jessica Simpson poster than the beans.

Jo Hobbs

Can this episode be added to the D&D Court collection please?

Rob Wes

Fish Reelman is a hero. Trust her to ask for water.

Ken W

This post / episode is missing the Short Rest tag.

HeyYeah

You're misunderstanding. The argument is solely about if rope trick is relative to the location it was cast, or if it stays in place regardless of if the surface is moving. The only reason the planets are brought in is because rope trick must necessarily be relative to a planets surface *or* the planet doesn't revolve around the sun or rotate *unless* rope trick is relative to the surface the caster is standing on. This has nothing to do with physics. Brining up the rotation and revolution of the planet isn't physics, it's literally up to the DM to decide if that happens and how. While I think the argument is over thought, rope trick is obviously a poorly worded spell for creating an ambiguity in its application.
