Zanna

Calcifer mentioned!

Zanna

I like banana split but that's cuz I like bananas (caveat that I haven't eaten one since I was 10 but thats cuz I don’t get ice cream often)

A. Lee. S

Amazing timing! About to get on a flight!

Adam!!!!!

to me, i won't get in a hot tub or backyard size pool with a dead body in it. if it's like a waterpark or local pool I can get in other areas from the dead body. if it's an olympic sized pool and a dead body is on one end i'll get in the other end, if it's in the middle i won't.

Paul Gude

“It’s Grinch Night” is my favorite Grinch cartoon and implies that his powers are incredibly expanded on Halloween.

William LaPorte

Murph taking a tiny L because he said specifically 'Charlie & the Chocolate Factory' which is the name of the book *and* the Johnny Depp movie, the Gene Wilder movie is called 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory' So he was in fact referring specifically to the mid 2000's Johnny Depp movie

Declan Konesky

Dude kraken all day. Giant evil calamari

Jensen D

I urge Emily to try freezing cubed watermelon. it’s a great popsicle alternative.

v

did not expect a mewing mention on the hearthside chat lol

Frank

Caldwell, we *need* Trinyvale x Grinch… pls

Zeke10n

We need a live show with Emily as DM. It would be so good.

Kellyd

But what about the gene hackman version

JR Lonergan

Paladin would be Ricky the Dragon Steamboat

Brina Rosenberg

In Lake Superior there are a ton of dead bodies that haven't decomposed or really been eaten because the lake is so cold, they're just preserved

Brina Rosenberg

But the lake is so big, people definitely swim in it if they can handle the cold

StalkOfWheat

I like how Caldwell brings up Dungeon Meshi, the show about eating monsters, during the petrified question, and doesn't mention it all all during the eating monsters question (dungeon meshi mixed bag when???)

Sam

Same

fig ficus

did not expect to hear about mewing from the crew

kasey newell

PLEASE DO A STAT BLOCK CHARACTER MIXED BAG

Logan Nash

The banana split slander is not welcome!!

Wren

John Cena is not a Fighter. John Cena is clearly a rogue. His whole shtick is “you can’t see me” and rogues are masters of stealth and hiding.

Michelle Spurgeon

The wrestler to class choices were very interesting. Chris Jericho as bard to consider. The Ultimate Warrior as Barbarian as well

Daniel Wong

Durian beats any other fruit in combat, hands down.

Babbles The Clown

Here to let Emily know that there are hot springs in Japan where you can soak in Matcha pools. They also do giant wine & coffee pools in the same place. It looks wild & wonderful

Brandon Stone

Emily made me feel so seen about the banana in the banana split. My wife abides by the banana but he only detracts from my enjoyment

Jackson Roth

I want to throw a honorable mention to Grapes. The bundle of grapes smothers the coconut, like a wig on a bald head, writhing and grasping at the stony fruit. Then *CRACK* splits it in half, akin to the Kraken to a ship at sea.

Jenna

the silence was so long I fully thought someone was calling me

Stations & Starships

Um actually, the movie ends with the glass elevator and the other kids never reappear. However, if we're talking originals, they do appear at the end and yes they are all slightly modified due to their original sins. (E.g. mike teevee has been stretched out, violet is still blue, etc.)

Stations & Starships

Wow actually this is fire, the trinyvale triplets would absolutely side with the grinch lolol

Frank

They’d out-Grinch the Grinch

Katie P.

I'm a big sherbet fan and I'm in NJ so I'm feeling seen. I think Phish Food is my 4th, it's good but gooey

Azn

Roman Reigns is a broken-oath paladin

CJ

Anyone else think their feed had cut out during the 'erotic charge' pause?

Georgia

caldwell's outrage at the prospect of an orange beating his funny nectarine is so real and true

Ian juarez

Calcifer speaks quite often in the movie?

Noah James Perito

Mewing coming up on NADDPOD was NOT on my bingo card

Cook

Murph has gone too far this time

Dax Motarex

We’ve noticed caldwell

Chase

While not a full Grinch campaign, I was in a pf2e campaign where as level 20 characters we had to track down and fight Krampus, who had stolen all of the nearby city's winter solstice gifts. After beating him we had to try to grow his heart by three sizes by teaching him the true meaning of Christmas so he would return all of the presents he stole. The pf2 stat block for Krampus is awesome, highly recommend

Donoiw

::. . . .pause. . .:: . . . "Erotic charge" 🤣🤣🤣

TrustedBard

Finally in the single best community to come into since Who-Villes founding and the first table read discussing the world building to Sonic Heroes on PS2🙏 Life is officially better with these gems of hooman beings existing.

Evan Cordero

I have just started watching WWE with my friends and I've been saying that my next barbarian is just gonna be Drew McIntyre. Glad to see Murph agrees

Peydon Bush

Coal is made of ancient trees, because for about 40 million yrs nothing could decompose them (which is absolutely wild imo). Oil is plankton that has settled to the ocean floor over millions of years.

Doctor Ransom

I’m with Caldwell, cook them monsters up Delicious in Dungeon-style!

Palmate Antlers

We NEED a Hearthside Chat for just Campaign 3 Questions, it’s the final arc!!!

Emma Meadows Mahoney

Hey Murph! Bodies can actually be preserved for up to decades in lakes where the bottom-temperature is cold enough to halt the process of decomposition!

Jack Farley

Jake I don’t care what you say, Hank was a ugly old dad

Connor Dub

Are we saying watermelon can klump?

Tanner Reese

Murph, I must object. Not only does Calcifer speak, but he is voiced by Billy Crystal better known as Mike Wazowski in Monsters Inc. I demand you retract your statement that Calcifer doesn't speak

Alex Nerini

Pineapple is fireproof. Win.

Charlie Morris

I work at an Ice Cream shop in Thousand Oaks and I will make Murph the best banana split if you guys come in! We have lemon sorbet but it’s Lemon Basil

Manuel Espinoza

Banana split is the superior ice creamed snack

Voiceofkane

Like 60% of the creatures they want to eat are either sentient or demons, and that's... disturbing.

aiyana graham art

idk if emily gets stuck in accents but I get stuck in her accents. when I re-listen to a naddpod campaign (except for c3) I talk to my cat in the accent. especially fia

Kevin Howard

Legitimately just laughed for a solid minute. " Well I assumed pro wrestling. We don't ever talk about anything else" Love y'all!

Sam

………………..erotic charge

DefinitelyLukeSkywalker

As a proud Michigander, I feel a duty to inform the crit justices that there are a ridiculous amount of perfectly preserved bodies in the Great Lakes. I, and what a wild thing to teach children, learned this in school at a young age. The Great Lakes: shark free, unsalted, full of corpses!

Stephen C, shortest beard in Bahumia

I know this is a weird thing to chime in on, but if I can't contribute to the discourse of a 60 year old book/50 year old movie/20 year old movie, what is the internet for? Hennyway, the book absolutely described the other kids exiting the factory, alive but transformed. Death would've been an end to their suffering.

Katy Howells

I’m so happy you guys said it “sherbert” 💜

Tori the Tungsten Dragoose, Dr. Dog's assistant

In the frigid waters of lake Superior, bodies don't really decay. There are shipwrecks with bodies that can't be recovered, and the bodies look nearly the same as the day they sank.

Martian

I'm just imagining the best banana split in LA that Emily finds for Murph is gonna be some kind of bespoke banana plit-tisserie where the ice cream is made from goats milk and the banana has been molecularly reconstructed into a foam

Martian

I love the way Emily is just so damn supportive of Murph's interest in that moment when he says no one is having fun listening to him talk about wrestling

Martian

When Caldwell said "and there's murder in it" like it was another star in the cast, I was like: Omg Emily is going to be in something with John Hamm AND Murder? Oh my god I looove Murder's work! I don't wanna sound like a hipster but I love Murder's classics, like Cain and Abel. Truly revolutionary for the time, and for a first work??

Jack Francis West

Mewing…where you try to make your face look cool…

Hex Sharpe

My understanding of fossil fuels is that it's all the biomass that died before microbes (or maybe fungus? microfungus? idk exactly) had developed that break down dead matter. So like instead of deteriorating (getting broken down by scavengers, then flies and stuff, then bacteria/fungus) like dead stuff does now, it just kept getting smooshed down under new stuff. That's why it's an extremely finite resource. So any bodies you dump in lakes will not become fossil fuels, but instead will simply be recycled into the earth as their material is consumed and used by other organisms.

Heroboys

It was only a matter of time before they learned what mewing was.

ACK

The questioners have clearly been corrupted by surprise round, I love it.

Miss Ter Cole

Yes! To add to this, I highly recommend watching Caitlyn Doughty's special on the Edmund Fitzgerald for more information on this terrible fact.

Jessica Petra

A few years ago I did a Grinch One Shot set in Eberron for Christmas where my PCs had to infiltrate a mansion to rescue Christmas from the Grinch. It was super fun and the game ended when the Grinch's Heart exploded because it grew three sizes.

Daniel Postlethwaite

Genuinely thought the pause was my phone buffering and the pay off was incredible 😅

k.allen

I proceeded to Google every wrestler you named and had a great time with that question, don't diminish your passions Murph lol! (Also I know nothing of pro wrestling, but from a google I feel like all of those were valid, though I think Paul Bearer would have been a necromancy Wizard)

Jack el destripador

NADDPOD and Distractible both talked about “is a hotdog a sandwich” in the same week. We live in a simulation.

Matthew Ising

There was an incident at a lake I live near sometime in the 1900's where a school bus went off the road into a deep part and some of the bodies were never recovered.

Luke McCauley

Idk I think I could take 3 solid hooks from the rock

FiendishNoodles

I'm sure someone else has shared this but I'm delighted to announce that in LA you can go to Korean spas/saunas where you can lounge in green tea pools (also some do beer), and hang out in various beds of warm sand before going into the sauna or the chill pool. Most places are pretty reasonable in their time blocks.

Dylan Brockman

As someone who lives in the south and it's constantly humid, it's the worst part about storms

h moon

i never feel more seen than when murph talks about professional wrestling

The Wizard Spring

With them mentioning what they want to do after campaign 3, have they said anything about not returning to eldermourn? Is there a readon they're sticking to bahumia?

Zeon Liberation

Pineapples and coconut are not summer fruit! They’re tropical fruit

Tim

For the “which DnD monster would you eat”, I feel like I might go with that space hamster/gerbil that was on all of the Spelljammer merch

Dippity_Dip

Jake know any thing from any anime ever level impossible

Alex Weatherhead

By some weird circumstances I was required to take a boxing class in college and my final exam was three two minute bouts against different people. In the first one I went up against a collegiate handball player who destroyed my nose after about thirty seconds and I had to fight my next two bouts while bleeding like a fountain. Handball isn’t even a big guy sport, the rock absolutely kills me with one punch.

Kelsey McNeil

Saying ‘humidity is underrated’ is so insane to someone who currently lives in the American south lol 😂

Anthony

Me, frowning in Floridian

Erika Flowers

AVOCADO!! Coconut is literally a tree nut. WHILE AVOCADO IS A PIT FRUIT.

Bransy330

I love Jell-O, I'm digging into a gelatinous cube without a second thought

Tish.Tosh

Murph being a lemon fan is so Bert-coded (like Bert and Ernie). Honestly, Murph and Emily to Bert and Ernie is 1-to-1. This is a compliment.

JB

Murph frozen as a coat hanger is huge Hoid energy

A$

I’ve never related more to Emily’s description of storms which are 100% erotically charged

Quincy Balaun

I wish I’d taken a picture of my neighbors grinch car before they removed the grinch face. I feel like yall would’ve loved it.

James Drenning

Im so glad u clowns arent in charge of government policy lol. You all are so sheltered but i LOVE UR DND POSCAST! lol

Brock

“Humidity is my favorite thing about summer” is a phrase punishable by death in the South

Magnolia Eve

Murph being a lemon guy makes sense, its so dad-core

Robert de Forest

I kinda wish you guys had a Dr. Drew character on your non-D&D episodes to provide "um actually" input on things like body decomposition. Maybe you could get the actual Dr. Drew as a guest!

Robert de Forest

Replying to myself instead of editing to keep my posts smaller. If Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson punched someone with all his might, he would do irreversible damage to almost anyone's brain. The exceptions would be victims who have trained to take real punches.

Carmen Scott

Chicago native here ~~ There are well over 600 shipwrecks in Lake Michigan! & over 6k in the great lakes in general. There’s a shipwreck museum in michigan. There are roughly 30,000 bodies in lake michigan alone!!! That’s a lot of bodies.

Abraham

Superior never gives up her dead!

William Heywood

The talk about storms really put me in mind of the sone Sometimes by James: There's a storm outside And the gap between crack and thunder Crack and thunder Is closing in Is closing in The rain floods gutters And makes a great sound on concrete On the flat roof There's a boy leaning against the wall of rain Aerial held high Calling, "Come on thunder, come on thunder"

Moonlit Ghost

I love the 3 seconds of silence before "erotic charge"

David Lipscomb

Coconut would be the champion in the wrestling. Especially with the husk on

Miranda B, Crick DVM

Jake’s names for the categories are getting more unhinged by the day

Anna Freitas

never apologize for your sincerity, Emily! LOVED your answer to the accent question (also - new year's grinch live show???)

EmperorGreed

Minnesota native, they absolutely do not get most dead bodies out of any of the great lakes. They're inland freshwater seas

Peter Elias

How to make banana splits good, imo, former DQ employee. Make sure banana is ripe but not too. Ignore typical toppings put caramel, heath bar and/or Reece’s peanut butter cups. Or whatever toppings actually work with banana flavor. The bad strawberry syrup 🤢 and pineapple (what is this a pizza??) with the chocolate don’t work.

Margaret Zenke

Of course Murph is the Marcille of the group lmao

Hashtaggles

I am deeply disturbed by Jake’s pronunciation of coconut

sarfs

Wow spoilers for The Matterhorn much

Mikkel Voigt

Murph is a man of culture, lemon ice cream is the best

Dr. Eggman

Fossil fuels are mainly from the carboniferous period! 🌴🌿🪲🐛Basically plant evolution was going off, the ocean was full of plankton, and trees were a cool new plant trend. They all produced so much oxygen that there were giant insects (think 8ft long millipedes, 2.5ft dragonflies, etc) and everything was on fire a lot. The plankton lived happy lives and sank to the sea floor to become oil and the oxygen fires burned a bunch of swamps and forests over and over which became coal!

SquareEggs

Couple things about lakes: Lake Superior and the Great lakes are so large they have horizon lines. Additionally, during certain seasons when waves are highest, people do surf on Lake Superior. A few people have mentioned this already, but the Great lakes are so cold that bodies are identifiable by sight decades after they sink. One man who died on lake Superior was identified 80 years after his death.

Alex S

I was about to say the same thing! Decomposition at the bottom of the great lakes is incredibly slow. They're certainly not skeletons.

Brassius Longjaw

Famously known as being a tropical summer treat.

Slappy Dave

I use Liquid IV pouches during summer sports events because they are quite effective for the price but I do think the name is stupid All IVs are liquid If anything the commercial product should be called Powdered IV (because it becomes an IV-able liquid when you mix it with water) I get what they are going for I just think it's dumb

Slappy Dave

I don't know that I'm won over on watching professional wrestling as intriguing as Murph and others make it sound Buttttt I would watch an anime based on it (which I suppose I have already as I used to watch the World Federation Wrestling as a kid despite not really understanding what it was. Alongside Fighting Foodons and Medabots.)

Kathryn G.

you should listen to ologies

notkelloggstony

"Caldwell Tanner, confirmed mewer" really sent me 😂

Aidan Warlow

Murph laughing as he tried to explain to Jake "they generally try to get them out" about dead bodies in lakes, really great stuff

Ronnie Cheung

Bah gawd, that's durian's music!

Jason Vander Wielen

Not to be that person but Caldwell did spill onstage during the Madison, WI live show last September and it was a HUGE moment for the audience lol

Lilli of the bog

I pictured Hank hogfish looking like the guy with the mustache from Atlantis

Kozai

Right off the bat, Murph’s “okay” after Emily saying that “Murph’s up!” Will be stuck in her head. 😂 Love it.

Z

took a naddpod break and during that break got really into wrestling and now that im catching up on the backlog im realizing just how much they talk about it. like its unreal. anyways cheers on choices there, i would 100% listen to murph assign classes to wrestlers for its own mixed bag

riddle me grinch

Came here just for this, I knew what they were saying about bones sounded wrong but didn't know the correct answer. This is fascinating to imagine.

Hipster

I love that Murph was sitting in silence for a moment thinking about banana splits before bringing them up 😂 Also, my personal ice cream ranking: 1) Maple ice cream from Trader Joe’s 2) Rosé sorbet from Jeni’s 3) S’mores from Ben n Jerry’s 4) rainbow sherbet :)

Cody Zimmer

Rangers are the class that get Strength and Dexterity saves.

Summer Tribe

As an aspiring serial killer that's great to know

Summer Tribe

I need to know if Murph has ever had an affogato with lemon sorbet. Highly recommend. Also goes good with some campari Also Caldwell is right about fossil fuels. It's a verrrrrry small amount lf bone in comparison to everything else. In that bone doesn't meaningfully contribute at all

Gail Hawanchak

I know I’m two years too late to this party but I’m from where banana splits were invented and if you get one it BETTER BE MADE RIGHT because people try and make them with all vanilla and it’s just so so wrong.
