edit 3: it turns out I was so very stuck because I hadn't turned the lamp right side up... edit: i looked it up and I think I just haven't found the mannequins yet soooo I can't get past the zodiac clock or the moon diary. I've been laboring under the assumption the diary is connected to the 1847 letters, and I have the moon calendar for 1847, but I can't put them in an order that unlocks the book (and there are only 4 letters for 5 inputs and the corresponding floppy discs offer no help) I've tried l everything I can think of. I think at this point in the story I'm expected to have already reached the cafe, since there are numerous items I have to use once I get there. I have card keys, horseman tokens, error codes, etc. The book confounds me though! And the zodiac clock...I mean, idk if I even have all the info for it yet but I feel like I must since I know so much at this stage. I've spent a lot of time on it but I'm not even sure what the clock is really asking. I don't want the answer handed to me exactly but I'm *really* stuck on both of those puzzles and any hint would be welcome if anyone reading this has played the game and can sympathize with this despair lol. I know the key here is often looking at things slant (I keep thinking of the emily dickinson line "tell the truth but tell it slant") but I can find the right angle, and I've spent an embarrassing number of hours on it. I'm afraid to google it because it might spoil other things. if you can help you have my endless gratitude edit: I tried using the menstrual cycle for the 5th moon because of the tampon, I also tried the moon iconography from the poster the third eye. still stumped

I'm convinced - without seeing Jake - the difference was noticeable enough that Caldwell had the cajones to give it props and love for the ever changing nature of his friend Jake... The New Jerseyan in me is compelling me to remind everyone that the cranberry bogs employ wolf spiders as natural pest control. So if you go in when they're flooded you go in with waders, you're the tallest thing around, so the wolf spiders will climb you to get out of the water and sometimes get in your waders. Also, the cranberry bogs have water moccasins which are a mean snake. So wade at your own risk

Growing up in Tennessee I feel Caldwell's confusion with these local chains deeply. Shoutout Shoney's, a guy proposed to my mom on the way to a Shoney's breakfast buffet once by telling her to pull the ting out of his glovebox and he couldn't wait til they arrived (she said no).

So my Dad ran a few Friendly's so I worked in several from 12 to 18 which would be mid 90s early 00s.. The difference between a Fribble and a milk shake at that time is Malt. You add it to the Fribble. I believe it's changed now and while the ice cream is still great the food is not great. Let's just say you wouldn't need a shot to fill a sink. Fun fact met my wife working at one.

So Friendly's definitely still exists, but they closed a ton of them across New York state several years ago. They also stopped serving the Tuna melt, which is an affront to God and man alike, but last I checked they still served Fishamajigs so it's not a total loss

As someone who also grew up in middle Tennessee, Caldwell's simultaneous defense and slander of Shoney's is so real 😂😂😂 I'm literally crying while laughing at him describing the buffet. But, Shoney's breakfast buffet > salad buffet, no question.

The three times I went to Baskin Robbins as a kid I ended up puking all over myself and my seat in the family car. I can enjoy ice cream, just not BR. But I was a very vomit prone kid and now just a slightly vomit prone adult.

You DO NOT want to walk through cranberry bogs. The first question they ask new workers is: "Are you okay with spiders?" This is because when the cranberry fields are flooded, all the spiders in the field are flooded as well, and when you walk through, they climb on you in an attempt to get to safety. And some of them are HUGE. I had a friend who worked in cranberry fields for a few summers.

Shoney's sounds so much like Ponderosa, which was this really cheap restaurant in my small Canadian hometown. My dad took me and my brother there at least once a week because it was less than $5 per person for unlimited access to the salad bar. It was big news when they added an ice cream machine in the 90's.

I had no idea that Roy Rogers was a restaurant. I only have known it as a coke with grenadine, named for the actor (similar to ordering an Arnold Palmer or a Shirley Temple). I'm maybe a year younger than the 2 Crew, but my only association with the upside-down clown ice cream cone is from the play fake food/grocery collection that my grandma had for us to play with.
