I loveeeee short rests so much! I love the genuine discussion but man do I ADORE the chaos!!!!! Worth every Patreon penny!!!!!

Chandler Rice

A goated episode and another goated short rest. Absolute banger as always!

Tannictor

Is this campaign Murphs purposing zero dark 666?!?

Alex Mayhem

Skaldova has been amazing - I'm glad we'll be getting another episode or two, but I'm so sad to let it go.

The Grinch (feral)

22 year old NADDPOD fans tap in lmao (esp if you had no idea what they were referencing until Caldwell explained it😭)

Pali Endi

I genuinely loaded this three times because I thought this was the last short rest lol

Tavitafish

Skaldova has been absolutely amazing and I really hope we see more of dm jake

Tiffany

what a delight

yeow

I would kill for Skaldova to continue!

Hugo Wull

I’m 33 but I never had cable, so thanks for explaining Alex Mack for me!

CharisCay

Lots of references to things getting melted in the Bible as well as other ancient Mesopotamian texts which feels ooze adjacent. Nothing like using a degree from 20 years ago to make that student debt worth it. 😁

Mr. Dude Sky

Caltrops have always had a DC 15 save

Alex H.

boy I hope they guess when things came out this time

Santa Grinch Hugging HumBaba and two Fairies

Lady Hawke? The cursed lovers who can only almost touch as day becomes night she is a hawk when he is a man and he is a wolf at night when Michelle Phifer is a Lady

Heliks

Anyone got a source for them there swarms Murph was talking about?

Rachel

Zudrick is my favorite Murph PC and with the reveal of him being a SoundCloud rapper made me love the character more.

Sjsharks93

Jake's story telling and world building has been incredible, and I've loved the characters of this campaign. But what I will miss most once this is over is finding out when different things come out 😔

🐧lost penguin familiar

That felt like a real boss battle. It felt like a movie in my head. By any chance, can you guys post the map of Skaldova?!

🐧lost penguin familiar

Rose for Jake making black lace have a sick ass origin of coming from the dead moldy dragon!

Joe Howard

I do actually love “when did things come out”

Daniel

Love the resident evil style campaign idea! Y'all should look at the Dungeon Crawl Classics. It's based on old school DND & is all about playing as a group of regular peasants that die super easy so you've gotta play smart. Seems like it could fit what you described pretty well

Tannictor

Zudrick is definitely the coolest, but I just love jenz so much, the trinyvill triplets are the best.

Tannictor

Call of Cthulhu would make it hard aswell, and it's an horror based system to begin with so it would fit.

Tannictor

I genuinely hope they make it it's own things, or at very least an running bit they keep bringing up in all their episodes.

Tannictor

Reference to an old 8-bit book club where they described a scenario where an seal team six like group invades hell to either stop Satan or get him on their side. I believe it was the twisted metal deep dive.

Mark Rizzetta

Sounds like it’s time for murph to check out Call of Cthulhu

Rafi

Someone needs to make a character like Silent Hill 3’s Heather for this Resident Evil inspired horror campaign

Tocayo

Caldwell, if you and your daughter like reading Greek myths I highly recommend the Percy Jackson books. They do a great job of keeping the flaws and tragedy of those Greek stories and characters while also making them more palatable and accessible to younger readers 🫡

Doctor Ransom

No better way to listen to this liquid cool episode than ripping on my skateboard. Perfect synergy.

michaeldweiler

Recently came across the “Fata Morgana Effect” an optical phenomenon that causes boats on the horizon to appear as if they’re floating, been wondering if this is the inspiration for the flying ships of the age of stories in Skaldova.

Meletios

Guys I was born in 2001 please

Meletios

24 and i’m so lost

Bryttany A

Murph was an indoor kid, confirmed

margot d

I’m 23 & I do know The Secret World of Alex Mack though I probably shouldn’t. I read the book version of it that came from a free book bin in like 1st grade & then when I was old enough to pirate things, found old copies of the episodes online

margot d

It was probably the first “show I liked that got canceled too soon” for me even though it got canceled like a decade before I was even born

HeyYeah

Honestly when I heard that Lenarc loved the dragon, I had assumed it was romantically

chlo!

i’m 22….. caldwell why did you single me out

Neil Dutton

My thorn was that I didn't realize how hurt Emily and Caldwell were during the fight so it didn't feel quite as high stakes as it could have. That might entirely be on me always doing several other things while I'm listening though.

Magerdamage

A contender for earliest literary turning into goo is probably the original little mermaid

Meg Shallanberger

A Zephirine Drouhin rose for your immersive imagery and a Shropshire Lad rose because while you are a great dm, you are too kind. Maybe halfway between you and Murph for your next adventure. (I have no clue about roses. These came from a google search for the type of roses I wanted.)

M Bee

When the question is "What was the first written instance of a plot device," and even moreso when it involves things turning into other things, it's usually pretty safe to guess Ovid's Metamorphoses. 😄

Adam!!!!!

HUGE rose to the dragon named cicada. it gives a lot of insight into the age of stories that a mythical dragon would be named after a mundane bug. also it makes me imagine that taking black lace would cause a permanent cicada buzzing sound in your mind. jake is a real master at vivid imagery

Adam!!!!!

gm binder "swarm of humanoids" i believe is what he was talking about. they even have a template of making your own swarm

Mich Blackie

Support Fire is the one of the best Boons in Hades!

Ashley

My siblings and I play the “What Year Did This Get Made/Come Out” game A LOT so I’m all for this trend continuing!

Kai

My hot take: Moths are so much cuter and cooler than butterflies.

Amy Bergeron

I was born in 1988 so you do have some confirmed Olds Who Remember in the room 🙌🏻 (though much love to our younger community members!!)

Amanda M

massive rose from me for Braxton having the Tread Nevers voice

Courtney F.

Love the energy they have for this adventure and MURPH YESSSSSS! Resident Evil Type Survival Horror PLEASE!!!!

Courtney F.

'88 also, checking in! 🫡

Joshua Burns

1988 is old? 1977 here. Guess I'll grab a cane

Joshua Burns

I can't wait for more from Jake.

Alice W

Thank you Caldwell for thinking of the 22 year olds

Heliks

Thank you! I'll check it out :D

Thomas Hegarty

For Murph’s resident evil campaign yall should use call of Cthulhu rules. It’s perfect for that kinda game!!

Jor Elare

Caldwell playing as Leon 'the sex' Kennedy would cause me great joy

Thermovore

“When did things come out” is a top notch game that my friends and I have been playing for years and love

HellishRebuker the NB DM PhD with diagnosed ADHD

I just wanted to say I'd be a huge fan of a future arc that's more of a survival/dungeon crawl focus! As much as big sweeping narratives are awesome, I think there's something super cool you can do with much "smaller" and more personal stakes of just trying to make it out alive.

Cameron Baker

Yes please to the resident evil style campaign!!!

Nick Lerche

'91. Alex Mac and Capri Sun right over home plate

Billy Peake

YES. Very simple to learn as well. Way less to take in than DnD

Billy Peake

“Welcome to being a player with these two” lol, savage.

Fido

The game that is, frankly, kind of sweeping the nation sort of

Felix

the upload schedule has also been great, I hope they can keep it up if they keep doing smaller campaigns.

Tristan Fortenberry

Caldwell calling 2B a "cool little robot" Is sending me.

Robert

Murph’s resident evil inspired story idea sounds so fun! I hope they do it

Mubeen Khan

When Did Things Come Out is the best podcasting you guys have ever done

CommodoreBlue

Murph immediately brought up the game, and then complained the whole time that the game was bad.

A$

Spinoff series: Who Turned Into Goo

Stations & Starships

Google was actually named after its orginal use for looking up goo related content on the internet... don't read into that too much you bunch of pervs.

Nitzan Harel

“When did things come out” is an amazing gameshow! I love it!

Soo Loo Candles

I don’t know I’m kind of with you Jake the silver surfer is goo-esque

roomwithoutawindow

Would love to see you guys branch into playing more urban fantasy/horror games. I think things like Hunter: The Vigil Second Edition, or even something more stripped down like Monster of the Week would really enable you guys to tell different stories. Regardless this has been an amazing campaign, and I think you all just keep getting better at your craft.

2026-09-05 07:00 I personally love 'When Did Things Come Out' and really felt special when seen when you looked yp the exact date for the first time and The Secret World of Alex Mack apparently came out on my exact birthday!

Mitch Cushman

I am just now listening to the first short rest, and Jake — please keep sharing things about what you’ve been learning as your first DM, I’m about to create my own campaign and it’s so helpful and validating!

Amelias Bedelias

Jake really put himself out there with “what about the silver surfer?” just to get dogged on

OG Seahorse

thank you Caldwell for mentioning Nier Automata!!! I’ve been making that connection between abandoned castle and boar all along and never thought one of y’all would talk about it lol

Argonautica

Once again Murph has described monsters and using them in a way that makes me think he would love Flee Mortals from MCDM (minions and letting players mow them down). So I, once again, really recommend it. Best 5e monster book out there by a decent margin imo.

VinDiagram

Shout out to Artemis from Hades for her Support Fire boon!!!

Sean Littell

I beseech you 2 crew pick my baldur’s gate 3 character for me

Ben Fleuter

Resident Evil inspired campaign? Hell yes fuck yeah.

Grass

My dad used to read me Greek myths and he would pause silently for like 5 min to be like “how do i word this one”

Rin Carranza

A zombie campaign would be very interesting! I'm trying it out soon but for a dark fantasy setting rather Resident Evil. My plan is to have the apocalypse just starting, and when they hit later levels they can deal with don't get hit. I can't wait to steal, I mean see your ideas if the game happens!

Miranda B, Crick DVM

The gameplay Murph was talking about at the end would lend itself soooo nicely to the Call of Cthulhu system or Delta Green. Y’all should definitely check it out.

Andrew Perkins

I think Odo from Star Trek: DS9 did goo first.

Jo Wright

I googled “scary moth” and the first hit was a yugioh card

Nadia the Dice Druid

I feel like Eldermourne would be great to take inspiration from in terms of zombies, like if most of it took place in Endoterra or something.

Genaro Morales

For the Resident Evil type game would you consider trying Monster of the Week? I've only played it a handful of times, but I really enjoyed it and thought it made for a tense game because there's not a ton of hp

Min

Agreed, it's super lethal, there is a lot of HP and not a whole lot of rolling compared to like dnd. It's really fun.

William Bowen

I just realized that Jake, the fighter main, made a low magic campaign specifically for fighters. On theme.

Leola Grayhawk

"did goo first" is taking me out 😂😂

Dmkampz

Bleak house the dude has so much goo he explodes!

J. Gro

2024 was the year of double cicadas, at least in Chicago. I guess there are two types that emerge after a different number of years, but 2024 was an overlap year where both came out. I was there for my cousin's daughter's bat mitzvah. I'm with Murph. No thanks to bugs or their husks.

Ryan watson

Being on the Resident Evil type game!

riskutforthebriskut

subbing to patreon was the best decision i ever made hahaha now im relistening to every campaign with the short rests... cinema

Aster

Omgg yess they are both so gooood

frogwithhumanhands

"I gotta get into nets" Caldwell says, before running Strahd.

riskutforthebriskut

im relistening to skaldova for like the 5th time and i need 40 more eps hahahahah

Zane Ferrum

I would argue the first man to goo is in the first story the epic of gilgamesh because enkidu is a person made of clay
