I've never been so early! Love this!

Nick English

I don't I've ever clicked something so fast

Daniel Cardona

Man I've listened to each Dungeon Court a minimum 10 times and that's not an exaggeration lol

katie potato

Im earliest ive ever been and it hits amazingly

clerby

oh i’m going to start a series of campaigns based on global scandals- first one, watergate, you have to either break in and get the files for nixon for a stealth mission or ig do a highly social campaign trying to figure out the entire watergate scandal. tortles im looking for 1 egg (and a contract with headgum 😚)

Cody Zimmer

It's been good to be completely caught up this last year.

Marbeline

Don't think it's meta to not trust a guy that can't tell you anything about who he is or where he came from...

Loki

Dang I saw my name and was like what did I do, well time to listen to the court.

clerby

ok fine i’ll just PA for the BacheLORE

Kellyd

"I am not a rogue" Dick Nixon impression made me choke

Ervin Jeffries

“They’re not matching with each other they’re matching with the submitter” smh so heteronormative, Murph. This could be a polycule of lesbians or an orgy of gays think of the possibilities, the drama, the stank 😩

Sofa loaf

The Nixon one sort of made me think of the cockburn song “call me rose” where Nixon is reincarnated as a single mom. Idk why that came to my mind but it would be a sort of fun character to play.

Mike

Please, no more DVDs, I don’t know how much more I can take…

clerby

ally hosts the queer bacheLORE if it is a polycule of lesbians 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

Zodi

Y'all know about Hackers but haven't done a podcast for it??? Best movie ever. The fashion. The cringe. It's the epitome of the 90s

clerby

gatorade shower with clam chowder if you do a boston live show 🙏🏽

Val

The absolute horror of becoming Caldwell-pilled and thinking “Grinchard Nixon” two seconds before he says it

SeaBassGin

Lol I was thinking that submitter is about to discover polyamory

Harry

3 0s in a row on a D100?! First you go through a break up, and then you lose a bet when the odds were 1 in a million in your favor. It's hard not to think the universe might be against you in a situation like that.

Brieanna Elliott

You can't willingly fail a saving throw unless a spell specifies you can like calm emotions does. From the rulebook: "Saving Throw: A saving throw--also called a save--represents an attempt to resist a spell, a trap, a poison, a disease, or a similar threat. You don’t normally decide to make a saving throw; you are forced to make one because your character or monster is at risk of harm."

Hammy

“Fuck, I forget this bit” Murph being so jaded and fed up with comedy is very endearing and funny to me

Colonel Condor

DnD Bachelorette?? Get Sam Reich on the phone right now - the NADPOD guys have got a pitch for dropout!

Totally Offside

I feel like the the player is way more in the wrong on the D100 bet. Yeah it sucks that the DM made no concession at all but imagine showing up to a weekly game and demanding $5 (and counting) every week from the person doing hours of free labour every week so you can have fun...

Totally Offside

Not to mention the DM is in control of when the end of the campaign is. They could have made good on that first day by offering up $5 then saying a Tarrasque rolled in and ate the whole party. Genuinely pretty wild to expect someone to make good on a bet like that. Just make a joke about being blessed by the gods or something and move on.

🐧lost penguin familiar

Getting dungeon court and a tortle tank in the same week is a huge blessing! happy 4th everyone!!! bless you all

Kellyd

Felt very much like a joke to me, like "hah everyone knows how bad it sucks when you don't do anything all session [the naddpod crew has loudly complained about this to Murph many times and it's a clear joke every time], hey don't yall think DM should pay me back?" and then the DM joked back

Kellyd

Willingly fail is different from willingly make though - they're not saying you can choose to fail and just have the effect not work

Totally Offside

100%. I think the crew missed the part where the DM said to roll three zeros on a D100, not just 1. There's a .001% chance of that happening, not 1%. Nobody at that table would have reasonably been expecting it to happen or the DM (who is doing hours of free labour a week) to pay one player $100+ a year from then on.

🐧lost penguin familiar

@ 27 min 3 rounds of combat while stunned that's like literally 30 min of just sitting there. Ive had so many 3hr sessions where the one and only combat was one round. I would be so pissed. That dm was out to get that barbarian. Fuck that guy.

Brieanna Elliott

I don't understand the point you're trying to make, but the rules say you are forced to make a saving throw, you can't forgo the save by choosing to fail.

j

Dick Warlock is a real dude

aiyana graham art

the dnd date one is crazy for a lot of reasons but also because if you're gay then you dont have a 6th sense for people who like dnd, gay people just like dnd. I too have matched with many people who like dnd (and even a couple who like naddpod) but nothing like this has ever once crossed my mind

Hammy

How about a VHS? It’s like a D6 with very skewed results

Hammy

Tiny W

aiyana graham art

caldwell I feel like if you're gagging because of your leftover salmon its cause you're making bad salmon lol

monica m

Be so careful with sorrel soup

NowWhatComix

I read the dating app one in the original comment I’m SO GLAD it made it in

Jake de Medeiros

Murphs take on player death being on the table is a bit weird since he was totally unwilling to let Zirk die at the end of C2 Idk if he’s lying to us or himself but that man does not like player death in his campaigns

Rafael C

I believe they're commenting on the last paragraph you paraphrased, since it explains that the player doesn't get to choose to do a save (as they would an ability check, for example, if they asked nicely), because I think they assumed you were talking as though the player willingly failing would be forgoing the save altogether – which I don't think you meant. That said, I understand their assumption, since I feel like your comment doesn't disprove that the player can willingly fail a save, considering it says right there "a saving throw represents an attempt to resist a spell, a disease, etc", so one would assume that therefore, if the character /doesn't/ attempt to resist it, they can indeed willingly fail. The way I read it, that's implicit in that definition. (sorry if this sounds rude, I'm not a native english speaker so idk how to properly express tone and stuff [also sorry for yapping so much lol])

EmperorGreed

Home campaigns are different than actual play shows. But also I feel him. I'll always say oh I'll totally kill my players, but balk when it comes up

Rafael C

lmao save some enlightenment for the rest of us 🙏😪

EmperorGreed

The justices are technically wrong about the confession- there's no rule saying you can choose to fail any save you like, and there are certain effects like Zone of Truth that specify you can choose to fail, implying you can't on most. Also, you can't really choose to catch a disease the way you could choose to not dodge. That said I still agree that the player is fine

Jess J

From Boston area: don’t eat chowder cold, that’s gross AF. It congeals, and anything fishy already is rank as left overs.

Hammy

I took that to mean the 1% chance. When you roll a 100 on a d100 it looks like three zeroes. I assumed that’s what they meant.

#KittyLearnsToCook

I have absolutely considered getting various Lex matches together for a DND one shot as a way of assessing how they handle failure, cooperation and conflict before deciding on whether or not I want to go on a date with them 😂😂😂 I even have a straight friend I asked to be the GM enabler!! to be fair, I would also be happy with them dating each other?

#KittyLearnsToCook

I do wonder if this person with the fish chowder thought that it would be less offensive to smell cold then it would be hot? But I think that’s a conversation that one could have directly 😂

Lachy

Unfortunately, when the President makes a character like Dick, it's not illegal

Kitt

Why am I putting all stuff on the backseat of the car, not in the proper car storage location? BECAUSE I don’t want to get up in that car’s taint every time I want shopping 😂🤣

Kitt

Please. Caldwell. My brain is gaslighting me and now I feel criminal asking for ‘a couple of quid to get a snack’ … I just want candy and not there are penises are everywhere.

Kingzley Sparkman

Nah, make those bets and stick to it! But seriously, never bet anything you're not willing to pay. That's how I ended it up with nine toes

Elizabeth Gunn, sickly but cruel

Hey sorry this isn't pertinent at all but I just got back from Big Daddy's (New Orleans bar) from which I had to walk away because a very tender and unknown young man was about to shoot up in front of me and I told him I loved him and couldn't watch that and now I feel so incredibly disoriented and sad and the only thing that's making me feel better is naddpod. Sorry to bring it down, I just don't know what else to do right now. All my love to the 2 Crew and everybody on here right now.

KestertheJackal

Yo speak in defense of 'not bring able to fail', I often draw comparisons to Marvel movies, or Disney movies. I don't go into those movies thinking 'wow, I wonder if those characters are going to make it out or die horribly!' - instead I'm asking 'wow, I wonder how these chsrscters are going to get out of this one?' For me personally, character death isn't a stake that makes the game fun, it's an unpleasant consequence that when not placed SQUARELY under mu own control, makes me nervous to have the character make interesting choices. I still want them to suffer snd struggle and goober up on things and fail, but for me charscrer death is the sort of keyfabe which everyone at the table respects. If you end up with a situation where that's no longer feasible, you pause and discuss what to do next, whether the player is happy for their character to die, whether you inflict some other consewu3nce, or whether you just do some rescanning of the situation. If someone then uses that to take advantage of the GM, that's an out-of-game discussion.

Totally Offside

Alright then the DM can just go. "Ok, here's $5 for today's ride. A tarrasque comes and eats the party. Campaign over. Bet completed!" Would that have been better?

Lorelei and Kyra Newly Weds

Ayo wtf was murph talking about? Bro was finna tpk campaign one finale if he wasn't womped so hard. Players don't stand down usually, so you can't just give a win, that's not how wars nor history works

Ron A.

Literally playing games with people's emotions

Pyt

To play Asmodeus’s advocate would it be equally bad to bring sushi down as a snack?

Hoid

It’s funny because I think even jokingly being like you should pay me some fare for showing up today is more weird than the dm even suggesting the role 😅

katie potato

Shoutout to all the uk people who know what quid *really* means

FiendishNoodles

If anyone wants a treat look up Murph's college humor cat dog sketch

aiyana graham art

no because sushi is normally cold (therefore not abnormal for it to be so; the coldness was the no. 1 identifier of weirdness) and in my experience sushi doesn't really smell bad. cooked clams are gonna have a much more potent smell even when cold

Kaidan C

So disappointing that it was a long lead up to a Nixon joke… I really thought they were going to play Dick Warlock actual Warlock, stuntman trapped in an rpg

Professor Pratt

Might I suggest Gazpacho? Best story, we are in Spain and we all got Gazpacho. The goofball in our group literally told the waiter that his soup was cold. The rest of us are dying inside. 35 years later we still tell that story, “ remember when Ted told the waiter his soup was cold?”

Keeks

I played on a slo-pitch team that was exclusively made up of the team captain’s tinder matches. There were men and women (she is bi). It was actually a good time! I think a D&D game could work.

Walker Thurman

The last submitter has the right to Bear arms

Caleb Horton

Yikes, I don’t think I would want to know the first OP. Sounds like they’re fishing for validation

hannah

Well you know what needs to happen now, right? They need to try cold fish chowder on Adventuring Party.

John Butler

There was an 8-Bit Book Club where they said they’d stop doing the show if they rolled a nat 1, and then proceeded to roll a nat 1, and then immediately reneged! I think they legitimately memory-holed it (and the rest of the fever dream that was 8BBC)

Smiththebat

Absolutely OH PLEASE to the chowder wimps. If anything it would smell less if it was cold. And that’s just science! It’s all in their heads because they’re grossed out by the concept of cold chowder. And that’s fair and worth a raz. I mean, I don’t know what kind of chowder this guy had but I have NO idea what kind of chowder Jake’s eating because I’ve never had or seen chowder that smells like a TUNA FISH SANDWICH.

Caleb Horton

Player was definitely not smart enough for that joke

Casey Alexander

For the two crews amusements. The kitchen is upstairs because the house we play at was built by the dms dad, who is an architect. It’s one of the most insanely designed places I’ve ever been too. Like it’s very cool but a crazy layout. There’s a bunch of bedroom and a very big games room down stairs which was big enough for us to host our 8/9 person dnd table.

Casey Alexander

Also thank for the warm response. Made my evening to hear my submission and me and partner got a good laugh out of it. 😊

Mortimer Lunch

I can’t tell if I’m just missing the consistency of weekly campaign episodes, disappointed by the recent shorter lengths, or if I’m burnt out on Dungeon Court. Maybe all 3? I don’t wanna be a negative Nixon, I just figured I’d voice a feeling.

Robert

I’m just going to say it - Bache-Roll was better than BacheLore. Justice for Caldwell.

Salem

so glad to see the return of bear hell

Wit & Whimsy

The barbarian dating the DM’s EX probably shouldn’t be bringing up the bet anymore

AndreasZS

The TPK-into-new-campaign case sounded to me like it was an issue b/c they were going to start a completely new campagin; possibly different setting/universe entirely. Was that just me?

Morgan

hey i was doing pull ups at the gym and i fell bc i laughed at “the boot is the taint”

Joey

“AMERICA IS MAKING DEATH SAVES” is my vocal stim of the week

Linnéa

I keep seeing people bring this up as an example of Murph not letting characters actually die or whatever, but I totally disgree. Zirk had spent the whole campaign working towards finding a revivify spell and he literally had complete notes on how to do it on his person when he died, it would be weirder if he wasn't brought back

Jake de Medeiros

No, that isn’t what happened, listen back. Caldwell had the opportunity to have an extra roll after failing all his death saves, failed it, and then Murph let him do ANOTHER extra roll. The second reroll had nothing to do with his revivify spell, and was some sort of pact with a fairy that supposedly had “consequences” (which we’ll never see since we aren’t getting Eldermourne 2 lol) Call a spade a spade, Murph didn’t want to end the finale with a player death. Fine. I just think him refusing to admit it AND advising people not to do it is like- semi hypocritical.

Adam!!!!!

the case directly said they were going into the same world. same setting, same goal, different characters.

AndreasZS

@Adam!!!!! Ah, ok, that makes way more sense. Thank you!

Mr. Dude Sky

The chowder case should be sent to Food Court and those insane judges.

Miss Ter Cole

I will eat pretty much everything cold or room temperature, but I also whole-heartedly acknowledge it is weird. I would also say that if COLD chowder smells so strongly, it has gone bad.

Linnéa

I did listen back and you're misremembering a lot of it: All of those rolls were for removing the crown from Irina, not whether Zirk would die or not. Zirk died instantly after accepting the pact with the fairy and failing once again to remove the crown (that was the consequence), and then Fia immediately succeeded on her roll to revivify him.

ThacoIsWacko

The last game I ran ended with a party failure. They didn't get TPK'd, because instead of fighting, the party got to the door before the ritual they were supposed to stop, THEN decided to long rest. They returned in the morning to the bad guys waiting to thank them for waiting. Bad guys teleported out, campaign ended. My current campaign is with different characters dealing with the fallout, 2 yrs later.

Fearne Pérez

Queer person who has been on dating apps - I think making a dnd party out of hinge matches is standard protocol at this point, just figured I’d drop in to expose this apparently strange alternate reality 😂

Jack S

There was only one roll to see if Zirk dies or not. All the checks you’re remembering were to remove the crown from Irina. He even made the revivify from Fia a DC 25 check. I don’t know where this idea that he gave Zirk a million chances comes from.

Jake de Medeiros

Respectfully it really feels like you’re jumping through hoops to justify a character that failed three death saves having multiple attempts to subvert the rules and return. I love NADDPOD too, but that was not a D&D moment

Extremely High Elf

Free Fair Fandango case That DM doesn't owe his player anything at this point. It's insane to keep the tab, you're dating this dude's ex anyway, and you sound real annoying

Linnéa

But I'm saying he didn't have multiple attempts, no rules were subverted lol... The only roll that happened after he died was Fia's DC 25 arcana check to cast revivify

Jessica Petra

I actually did that "start a game with a bunch of people I matched with" one time. It was as awkward as you'd expect 😂

Bryce Peterson

I’m a vegetarian that hovers around my partner’s steak/bacon and takes giant whiffs because I love the smell; it could absolutely go the opposite way with cold, stinky fish. Also the feeling of Murph saying “I actually have some great news for you” about choosing to fail death saves was weirdly cathartic.

Elizabeth Gunn, sickly but cruel

Follow up question, he didn't get sick afterwards, did he? Someone else in the comments mentioned that if it smelled that strongly when cold, that maybe it had gone off. And doubling down on your cold chowder is supremely less razz-worthy (side bar, razz-worthy sounds like a home delivery service that sends you fourteen berries with soggy affirmations stuffed into them) than doubling down on committing your own food poisoning.

Bryce Peterson

I know what you’re getting at. Transition periods are tougher when the ratio shifts from entertainment to expectations, without getting over the “we can’t get it wrong” hump. Seems like everyone has in general become more independent, and with Naddpod starting to hit that SNL trajectory, I can imagine it’s harder to collaborate meaningfully on a daily basis. Could be just the jumbled up assumptions and imperfect social analysis skills

Wishfulthinker3

For Emily of all people to go "...Really?" Against the DM. Total burn. You immediately have to accept the ruling. Justice Axford is handing down a decisive ruling here.

Bryce Peterson

Definitely. It’s an efficient way to sync up common interests and compatible personalities 🤷🏻‍♂️

Bryce Peterson

Amazing. Not even time heals that wound 😂 I was like 25 the first time I ordered Eggs Benedict. When the waiter asked me how I wanted my eggs, I made panicked eye contact with some friends before saying “.. Benedicted?” One of those small, endless pools of humor for my friends haha.

Collin Mason

"chowder mustache" just fucking sent me 😂😂😂

Fyco

In the case of “The free fare fandango”, I think the DM missed an opportunity here. He said rest of the campaign. Next session, BBEG shows up and one shots everyone. Slide the 8 quid across the table on the final killing blow, “So, campaign 2 will be set ….” Bet fulfilled.

Jasper Savannah

Will we ever get a DND court with amir as a guest? 😊 Love y'all and your work

Michael Graham Abernathy

Man... if I showed up to a Hinge date and saw 2 other dudes there who were also Hinge matches I was now competing against, I'd be out of there instantly. That's the behavior of a crazy person. And if I were invited knowing this was the premise, I would say, "Absolutely not. Peace out, good luck out there." I'm tired enough of playing mental games when looking for a partner. Who is out here making literal games out of it? Lol

Evan

As an experienced chowder-maker, the idea of eating leftover clam chowder cold is vile. It's like eating cold spaghetti, just because some people choose to do it doesn't make it not gross

Luke McCauley

Tommy Dickles made me cackle in front of my coworkers good job jork

Lauren

The amount of money I would pay to the dnd dating show omg

JustSomeKnob

No short rest bonus cases Murph? SAD!

Hoid

I think it’s genuinely insane to hold your friend to a financial bet clearly made as a joke and then keep count? Personally I might never talk to that guy again lol I also wonder if it’s the first time the “you should pay my fare” joke has been said

Michael Graham Abernathy

I think getting Karina Drawfee as a guest was as close as we'll get to that, lol.

Jonathan Yarberough

" but a dnd night where everyone wants to just be with you is, insane " correct. I would be more than offended if I was invited to a dnd night with the girl im "talking" to, too compete with others for you? Insane might be the best way to put it...

Erin H.

yall would HATE to hear how often I eat cold clam chowder straight from the can for lunch

Grass

I also just read Mistborn!!!!

Mubeen Khan

Hey, I noticed the social link for the songwriter goes to a deleted account. Perhaps link to their website?

Lee030

My partner and I met on a dating app and before we started dating we both went on a date with a person we also met separately on a dating app by accident and we started a dnd game with them and a couple other friends and it’s great lol

Nathan Pittman

The beautiful absolution of dice sin at the end of the episode

Alexander Lawrence

Actually, I'm in a dnd game that partly consists of people I matched with on bumble lol

Davybouy

"Loosely based on Richard Nixon" took me so off guard

Ian Mcilwean

I don't think they're friends or at least not anymore.

Hoid

I might have misheard but maybe even worse to do it to a stranger lol

Ian Mcilwean

Isn't the guy just holding him to the joke bet cause he's now dating the DM's ex. So like his Ex Girlfriend and probably Ex Friend are just being assholes to him.

Ian Mcilwean

I guess I just feel like people who've already kinda wronged this guy are dog piling on him.

Casey Alexander

The chowder had apparently made that morning and had been in the fridge. We had had dinner already and always did charcuterie which everyone contributed too. He just out of the blue decided to grab the mug for no reason. He was perfectly fine after eating it much to my dismay. This is also not the first or last weird food situation that has happened at this table.

riskutforthebriskut

as far as i understand you can choose to fail any save that doesnt involve a risk to harm... this is buttoned up

Jessica Petra

For the record, this was years ago and during a rough patch. I am, and have been, in a very healthy and fulfilling relationship for years.

Leda J

Fully I was thinking “the comp het is really holding everyone back” when the idea of a D&D game with matches from an app was shot down with so much derision

Compound27

This hinge d&d case sounds like it either ends in an orgy or the cops being called lol

Scruggzi

I literally started playing after finding a DM on a queer dating app. Never connected with them romantically but we're still enjoying an extremely fun pathfinder campaign nearly 4 years later.

Scruggzi

'He famously had plans' as a description of Nixon made me snort coffee out of my nose.
