He's the patron of animals and the environment and his feast day became World Animal Day, lots of denominations do the blessings of the animals and I think those services go into "Stewardship of Nature" topics

I know it’s a joke but I have to chime in and say. Baptism is a promise, like marriage vows, and blessing the animal is like a birthday cake wish. Some denominations, like baptists, dunk you. Others do a sprinkle. I don’t think anyone dunks babies. I think it just looks like they’re dunking the baby cause the baby is smaller. (Also shout out to rapid response. RRNs do such great stuff)

I can't believe the amount of support we've been getting here, the rest of the country actually watching and listening, hoping for some edge over this imperial boomerang. We have a pretty good network of mutual aid here (it's socialism lite and that makes this administration nervous) so please keep in mind that if you want to be able to resist in the long run too, you have to start preparing to rely off each other if they decide to punish your state with a series of funding cut as well. Also thank yall for making a podcast we can escape the man made horrors with, it's genuinely healing.

I’m not sure where you’re consuming news or what region you’re in… so I’ll engage in good faith you are under propaganda. Because they’re targeting people with excessive force, indiscriminately killing, maiming and detaining people because frankly they can. They’ve lied multiple times about encounters, and have only recanted (somewhat) of those intentional lies when they were caught on camera proven otherwise. Intentionally misinforming and villainizing their victims of state violence and utilizing propaganda to affirm in the court of public opinion the validity of their actions. Additionally, ICE is keeping a database with Palantir tracking citizen data regardless of being protesters or not, and their main push right now is bullying states into turning over voter rolls. This is mid stages of fascist regime take over and I urge you to start actually opening your eyes to what will be happening to you, even if you’re a “law abiding citizen with nothing to hide” because it does not matter to them if they decide you’re an enemy.

Even if you think people shouldn't be exercising their rights to protest and to film what ICE is doing on public streets (both of which are, factually, undeniably, rights American citizens have), even if you think those rights should be taken away and the people who've been murdered did indeed commit crimes - you believe they should have been killed by their government on the spot? Without a fair speedy and public trial, without representation of an attorney, without a jury of their peers having seen evidence of their crimes? In a state that has abolished the death penalty? At that point we've now revoked the 1st amendment, in Pretti's case the 2nd amendment, the 5th amendment, the 6th amendment, and the 10th amendment. Let's say you think that the nature of the protests being about immigration means you're willing to say that ICE agents had reason to believe the victims were illegal aliens and that the US constitution therefore doesn't apply - the 14th amendment disagrees. Let's further say you DO think those amendments should be revoked - you're allowed to think that! ICE agents are allowed to think that. Kristi Noem and Trump are allowed to think that. But Article V of the Constitution clearly outlines the process for amending it, which has not yet been followed in order to revoke all the rights I detailed above, and until it's been followed, it's an undeniable fact that ICE is breaking federal law. Let's say you think that the protests (again, a constitutional right) are causing an extreme set of circumstances or a state of emergency and that the president therefore has the ability to override those rights that you disagree with or get around Article V's process, Article II says he doesn't. Checks and balances are a core tenet of America's founding, so there's no interpretation of all this that's not inherently anti-American no matter which party you're a registered voter of, even without considering the larger historical context of all fascist regimes throughout time following this same playbook.

I feel that this comment is why its so important for content creators and artist with big followings to speak up. Interacting with this assuming good intent, this person says "i wonder what im missing" they see an audience that they normally agree with / enjoy / engage positively with on a regular basis all of a sudden have a strongly differing opinion then them. They have heard the crit justices and seen them make philosophical judgements that they likely agreed with, and now they have a different opinion on something. They are smart enough to say hey, i might want to check in with my community to see why we arent aligned. I really hope they can examine their bias and privileges that have allowed them to be unaffected, so far, by these horrors. I hope a Nadpol can explain in a way that gets through to any of our community members who are still living in that privilege.

Hi Carson, I’m in the Twin Cities, and something I’ve seen is how deeply this has impacted the non-liberals in my community— people who support small government, want to rein in government spending, want to preserve the 2nd Amendment, want to protect nuclear families, want government actions to align with Christian values, or hold other ideals that generally mean they align with conservative politics in the US. These people have reflected on the way that “Operation Metro Surge” violates the principles most important to them, and have been speaking out. For example, a Republican candidate for governor, whose law firm provided advice to Jonathan Ross, recently dropped out of the race, stating that he could not in good conscience continue to align himself with the administration. I’m not sure what info you’re seeing about what’s happening here, but I would be open to answering any more questions you might have.

I will say it would be over powered if the clone used to be a wizard and still remembered all they knew as a wizard ie having an insanely high intelligence arguing they are still proficient in arcana checks etc. but if you say they lost that knowledge just remember they once were smart and had magic that’s fine and fun. It’s also not far to be able to get extra skills for free. It would be a little OP to get free proficiencies or an extra high stat. So I get feeling bummed if this one player will be both the brains and the brawns can kinda make everyone else feel obsolete. But if the DM says hey you don’t get the intellect of the OG character and only sometimes will say hey you get advantage for this history check that’s fun but if it’s all the time a permanent buff bc they would know everything that’s not fun. I did a oneshot where all my backup characters were also my wizard who cloned himself and had different classes to take over if I died. So it’s a fun idea. The other player shouldn’t have been so rude they should have been like hey does this mean they get an extra bonus profiency in history? Could I get a freebie as well then?

Growing up as an Episcopalian aka Catholic Lite, I went to plenty of Feast days of St. Francis of Assisi. The most powerful moment in teaching me the depth of kindness was when I was 12 or 13 and my guinea pig died the night before the blessing. My mom talked to our priest to clear it, but he was kind enough to give my animal a blessing to send them on their way. Religion didn't stick with me, but that sort of shit really did. He didn't have to do that, but he did and the impact was real for little pre-teen me. PS. Thank you for including the pre-roll. It feels good to have reality acknowledged

First things first...Vancouver BC stands with all you in Minnesota, and all cities/states who are standing up tp Trump as he tries to muzzle and cage so many of your friends and family. Shel B has the right of it...from what I see Trumps actions are so close to Hitler's hostile takeover of Germany, so, stay strong and don't stop fighting! Second, about elbow hitting...3rd edition (yes I'm old) had a "called shot" mechanic so you could target specific areas, but it added (I think) +5 to +10 to your opponents AC, and you did like an extra d(whatever) of damage...but if you crit, that was when limbs were severed. It was fun, except when the DM cleaved your head off in the second round of combat.

The type of d20 frequently used as a MTG life counter is called a "spindown" die, as in the numbers spin down the faces of the die in order. They're just as random as other d20s if you roll them. They're not weighted. I have heard it's POSSIBLE to control the output slightly, if you do some kind of flick spin from the correct side of the die, but like, if you're that fancy you could probably do it with a regular d20, because those numbers aren't random, they're the same every time. If you can throw a die so the specific face you want comes up, you're too powerful to be stopped anyway. So if you have a spindown, just shake real good in your hands and don't look before you roll.

I think yall are missing something on the rat question. The rats in this case were just flavor representing the rope in Rope Trick, which is a regular nonmagical rope. The spell just creates the portal at the top of the rope and holds it in the air, but the rope itself can absolutely be attacked or cut. The nature of the rats is irrelevant, its just a rope in this moment and the player is right that he should be able to break it.

Yeah, this is the rare case where I think the justices missed the key factor! If it's really a rope made out of the intangible nature spirits, then the player can't climb it; if it's just Rope Trick with rats for flavor, then the rope isn't invincible. The "it's just for flavor, but you can't attack it because it's my class feature" is trying to have it both ways!

Lich restarting as a Lvl 1 wizard ) the other player sounds like he was Giving an Unsolicited Option and considering it Important enough to change your Character that's Meta Gaming and Misogynistic

The Spindown die from MTG is the same probability as a standard D20. Distribution doesn’t affect probability as far as the expected outcome. If you can stop a spindown die consistently on the high side without anyone noticing, then you should be a Vegas magician.

I wasn’t going to engage but after some thought I understand we all have bad days and there’s a “ugh where’s one place I can unplug from it all and not be reminded” but there’s an immense amount of privilege and entitlement within that, even if unintentional. I’m sure every person who has endured violence, either directly or from watching it happen, those who have lost loved ones, those actively trying to find abducted family members, those living in cities actively being shaken down right now would love to have that. But they can’t. And we cannot in times like these prioritize our desire to avoid discomfort of politics when the result of those “politics” is people are actively dying. Also remember that while having a bad day is context for behavior, it neither excuses or absolves the result of the behavior. I hope you reflect and choose this moment of being called in to be the moment you chose to grow as a person instead of retreating into a victim mindset. I’m not saying you will do the latter, I am eternally hopeful you engage in the former albeit the much more uncomfortable but rewarding option.

However similar to how you can’t just cut an enemies arm off like the referenced for melee combat, you can’t really interact with a spell cast RAW like that. Outside of a counterspell or dispel magic etc or specifics on the spell card mentioning it can be interacted with outside factors/addendums, it would be up to DM interpretation of how they wanted to take that. I don’t think your interpretations are wrong either it’s just a different take on how you’d rule as the DM.

So In defense and support for he MTG dice roller, I used a spin down because it had a cool design and matched my character, playing at the table openly rolling with I rolled 4 nat 20's and practically soloed our first boss when our party was split and my fellow player went down on one turn. To be fair I was a rogue and had advantage every turn for hiding. But I still felt really bad

Re: pet baptism. I would argue that the difference lies in who (or what) is being baptized/blessed. Emily is human and thus has a soul = baptism. The dog is not human and doesn’t have a soul= blessing. Also, I have been a Christian for 25 years and have been going to church for longer and I have NEVER heard of animal baptism. I’m for it though. I’d love to get my cats blessed. Also, do we think the pet blessing is a denominational thing? I’m Presbyterian.

So it seems everybody missed the key factor in the rat question. The player was using their Writhing Tide ability. You can condense part of your swarm and it gives you a fly speed of 10ft and you are hovering. They did that so that even if their rope trick was destroyed they wouldn’t fall. They just described it as a rat chain up the rope trick for flavor. The DM ruled correctly. The subclass ability gave them the fly speed and ability to hover.

For the Jenny/Jimmy case: are we sure Jimmy and his table are your friends, Jenny? Cause going full aggro on your character not just once, but twice, as a new player and having the table & GM be ok with it both times sounds like you unfortunately joined a semi-problematic table - or at least one that plays the game differently than what you're looking for. This is definitely a situation where the GM should jump in and squash it - especially if one of the players isn't into it. But again, since they didn't, and the other players didn't do anything about it - twice! - , then you might have to see about finding another table/group that plays more like you'd like to.

Too many comments to read them all to see if anyone else posted, but different denominations have different baptism practices. Some do full submersion, some do a sprinkle, and I think it's also possible to do something in between. The point of baptism (in my protestant belief) is for you to intentionally make a public statement of faith. I wasn't raised in a church that does blessings, but if pets can receive formal blessings, it seems there isn't any sort of commitment implied on their part. Just a kind of "God be with you" kinda thing. I think Murph had it with the rectangle/square analogy. :)
