Have an interesting october!

Del

As a proud dropout of Evergreen state college, whose mascot is the Geoduck, it is indeed pronounced gooey duck!

Lia

On Sight Gandalf smashes two ales together, chugs, kicks Pippin in the gut and then stunners him through the Shire's finest second breakfast table before storming out

Tyler Whorff

Laughing hysterically at the thought of Gandalf pvp-ing Merry/Pippin

Tyler Whorff

"Suck my Mithrandick" lmfao Caldwell

lucilia_illustris

Emily is correct!! It's pronounced "gooeyduck." I'm an alumni of that college, Evergreen State!

Tonberrimo

2026. Getting your ass kicked by Crash Bandicoot is out. Getting your shit rocked by Gandolf is in

Nye-Low

Evergreen is the Geoduck it is pronounced gooey

Mich Blackie

Dammit, now my "it's me pok-eh" vocal stim is back

Hugo Wull

Jake’s Kermit voice is perfection.

BrandedNerd

The DM with the Eversmoking Bottle was wrong. It takes an action to use the bottle and he said the player was taking a disengage action so he couldn’t do both. The DM should have told them they can use the bottle or disengage. Then if the player chose to still use the bottle the DM would be fine to rule it how they did.

Lamp

I made a scene in the grocery store laughing at suck my mithrandick

Ryan A

I've had the flanking problem. My solution: flanking grants a +2 instead of advantage. Players are still rewarded for strategy but it's not so good it's a mistake to not do it.

Terrell Swanson

I have good news. If you Google Gandalf suplex, there are two tattoos that pop up in Google images of Gandalf suplexing a balrog

Char

The simple solution for flanking is just use the 3e rules, +2 to hit while flanking. You can drop it to +1 for 5e with bound accuracy but it's more balanced than rolling advantage. Also pretty sure flanking is an optional rule in 5e

Hugo Wull

Nice try Caldwell, you’re not gonna fool me into thinking Silksong is actually announced.

rosebramblewolf

Monkey King DM like "muahahaha, I spent time and energy preparing this encounter and because YOU missed your chance I'll never use it!"

Alfredo Delgadillo

Can Gandalf be part of the nadpod universe now. No magic Gandalf entering the royal rumble

Calic Tolentino

Welcome to the NADDPOD cinematic universe Gandalf

Ryan Gaudet

We need someone to draw these Gandalf the Goon punishments 😂

Nic Q

Caldwell please I’m begging you — we need a 4-panel of Gandalf handing his staff to Legolas snd then rocking Pippin’s shit with a suckerpunch. That whole segment made me cry omg

DMAN

Y'all having organically stumbled across the "Gandalf is secretly a Fight with tge Magic Initiate feat" is delightful. Look up the theory, it has some compelling sporting evidence from the novels!

Mortimer Lunch

Ryan F we need to talk about what "long story short" means

Patch

Love the advice from the court I will take it to heart. I will learn how to get more creative with my combats and how to salsa

Benjamin P Parson Gomberg

And as always for DMs dealing with shenanigans, if the PCs can do it, so can the monsters.

Patch

My first table were all Bulrics for the full 5 years I was with them. There always had a conversation before something happened. I got scolded one time when I did something without asking, and I left the table after another player DM'd me this year to say that I needed to talk to the group before I acted and my behavior was effecting his personal life.

Benjamin P Parson Gomberg

Funny enough, it was on sight with Gandalf when Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas thought the “White Wizard” was Saruman. And I’m pretty sure after he blocked their attacks with a blinding shield of white light, Gandalf took a boxing stance and socked Legolas in the gut then punched him in the head

Jordanne Stahl

I wish with my whole heart I could send Emily a video of Mr Dressup singing the gooeyduck song

Amy

Don’t forget Evergreen’s positively iconic fight song featuring their geoduck connection written by Malcolm Stilson in 1971: Go, Geoducks go, Through the mud and the sand, let’s go. Siphon high, squirt it out, swivel all about, let it all hang out. Go, Geoducks go, Stretch your necks when the tide is low Siphon high, squirt it out, swivel all about, let it all hang out.

MicahMc

As the fellow player subscribed to the Patreon, it is with a somber, Stone Cold heart that I vow to enact this Gandolflagellation upon my dear DM and friend and stun his ass. (PS, it takes two people to bring interpersonal issues to the RPG table - he's too kind to bring me and my batman-esque, tragic, self-pitying first character into this. But we're still playing to this day and he encouraged me into DMing our current campaign. Love you bro!)

Nick English

Without even listening to the ruling....if your player uses a magic item that releases blinding smoke you play it rules as written. You could have just disengaged and moved away from the enemy, by using the ever smoking bottle you're trying to get an extra effect on your action. If the player was new to the game I might remind them, but to use an item incorrectly to try and get an advantage I feel they should bear the consequences of doing so

Michael Quick

Pvp gandalf in the nightmareverse

Pali Endi

For the flankers, why not use your terrain? Elevation + cover could both change the rules in the situation and create a new challenge

Hammy

unite the clans

Nathan Wilson

Though, to be fair to the setting, magic seems to have been dissappearing from that world for eons. The last big bad is a shadow of himself, and his only chance at resurrection is a ring that can merely turn one invisible The silmarillion is awash with cool magic shit that happened hundreds of years ago, but by the time you're at the Fellowship proper, that level of stuff doesn't happen anymore.

Logan Carpenter

Can we take a moment to just give “suck my Mithran-dick” a bouquet of roses. Fucking flawless Caldwell.

rosebramblewolf

Has the flanking-averse DM tried saying out loud, "Hey guys, I don't want to use the flanking rules anymore"? Or are they trying to passive aggressively manipulate the players into not doing it?

Aidan

I really gotta bring this up because I can’t let such a big L go. When Murph referred to the “Count Dooku” lightsaber I believe he meant the iconic “Darth Maul” double bladed saber. As a prequel Stan I can’t believe he let this slip through the cracks. But as we all know those fights are just so fast he might’ve missed the detail while running to garbage fresh cat turd in hand.

Hamster Nipples

Case St 15:30 should just add range attakers

Devin Tyler

I used to give my players +2 to hit for each surrounding PC as a Flanking Homebrew.

Lara the big titted worm

Did they specify limbless? I thought it was just something without legs. I'd also argue that an eel's fins and walrus's flippers are roughly equivalent.

Summer Tribe

flanking would be a much stronger tool against the players than for given how 5e combat usually runs. it would essentially function as a nerf for the melee martials, already the weakest character option

Lachy

Gandalf the Whey, my new absolutely stacked melee character

FiendishNoodles

In the the ever smoking flask, it's a player fun + consistency question, if the player used it for flavor and the actual mechanics of it destabilized the encounter in a different direction (the oozes absorb the smoke and all are vulnerable, or something) would it still be flavor? Surely not

M

I get the vibe they were going for with geoduck but theres a simpler answer. City pigeons dont have arms

Dylan McCollum

but that's not what they were doing. The DM even said I know they were just disengaging BUT...

Fox

Murph Wyrm Gym

Brian McAree Murphy

I'm unsure on the paladin question. The only thing we know is the dm admitting to twisting the knife and the player blowing up. Very hard to be against the person reacting rather than starting it.

HeyYeah

It's genuinely so powerful, I think the DM was in the right

rosebramblewolf

For wasting their own time and being smug about it?

Jacob Shore

Simultaniously mad impressed with Caldwell's Kermit impression and dying of laughter hearing him beg for his life like Galad Rosell. 10/10

AXWH

Gandalf the Grey is pumped, but Gandalf the White is ripped

tre blessing

I have been wanting to tell you about the Monkey King!! my dudes he is 90's RAD he ABSOLUTELY wears sunglasses!! his horse is a dragon, and his crew is a pig and a dust storm, and it's his job to protect a pacifist monk who walks into traps, and he can make his expanding rod any size he wants, and he can make his fur more Monkey Kings!! you can listen on Myths and Legends podcast 😘

tre blessing

he kept growing his power levels and he thought heaven should take him seriously and, like, just acknowledge that he was on their playing field, approaching their peer. but they treated him like a very naughty monkey who should be punished so he stole immortality peaches and then threw down. they fought for like ages, heaven vs monkey army, and eventually he did lose and was trapped under a mountain, all immortal and bored. and so a few thousand years later they're like "do you want to atooone?" because they needed someone powerful enough to survive the journey to the west. they wanted this human pilgrim to journey through ten thousand miles of demons to retrieve the scriptures for the rest of the humans and they only knew one guy who could protect him. so he's all sassy but trying to learn to be good it rules and I keep thinking Caldwell, as an animator, and Emily w comparitive mythology, would love it, but, the more I listen I'm like no Murph loves it too actually bc Sun Wukong is *rad*

Sebabie

PVP Gandalf better be in the next Surprise Round

Danny Lyerla

This has absolutely nothing to do this with, but please let Emily and Murph know that the aquabats are currently writing a theme song for Wild Wing, the mascot of the Anaheim Ducks. Just relistened to the Strahd ep where Emily makes the Aquabats reference and what kismet timing

Raven

Murphy token

Compound27

The flanking case, you could give them a taste of their own medicine where it's 20 little guys that only do tiny dmg and every pc is flanked

Colin Kilzer

I simply cannot be the only one imagining that Gandalf has big naturals while he kicks my ass

Mortimer Lunch

In fairness to Murph I think he was referring to the 2v1 battle between Anakin/Obi-Wan & Count Dooku when Dooku dramatically revealed his lightsaber as well as his makashi style dueling that’s designed for tactical/precise movement (specifically not being flanked by either opponent), then Caldwell brought up a dual sided lightsaber, and thennnnn Emily referred to it as a “Count Dooku sword”. TL;DR - our cat turd snatching king is only guilty of not “um actually”ing his worm wife

🐧lost penguin familiar

Totally forgot to celebrate Hogust this year... need more Maverice Chronicles! 🫶

Compound27

Would be wild to find out you don't mesh after 4 years and 4 sessions left. I feel like Id tough it out for last 4 then bail. If this person was making a big sacrifice intentionally, they probably need to express that and then maybe people would follow. As the dm, id run a side quest before continuing the last 4 eps without them.

Compound27

What if Gandalf was Bruce Willis. "A wizard is never late Frodo, yippee ki yay!"

Kona

He definitely was talking about Count Dooku’s saber. Caldwell said smth like hes using a double bladed lightsaber but only uses one

Kaidan C

Idk why you guys are so dismissive sometimes. A DM not wanting to run an optional rule and everyone else wanting to is an issue, how can you just say “ehh not a problem”. Like that’s inherent conflict over how the table wants to play. It’s fundamental. The players want a grid to cheese mechanics, the DM never wanted to use those optional mechanics in the first place They’re essentially just saying “lol git gud” to the DM here, it’s got me steamed “That’s just how the game is-“ “You could homebrew” “That’s what d&d is” No! It’s literally an optional rule. Sometimes y’all are just straight up wrong, and telling someone they’re wrong for wanting to play a certain way

Ganpan14O

I think the issue was that there was precedent for the rule being used and there are ways around it. I think the DM could say no, but ultimately working with the rules and making reasons for the characters to be unable to or punished for using them too eagerly would lead to a game everyone enjoys better.
