how is having perception prof "metagamey"?

Ethan

Because a player who has played the game before knows how important and prevalent perception rolls are. They’re not saying it’s ALWAYS metagemey, like you can have a character that is perceptive and give them perception prof, but it’s metagamey to give your characters perception prof by default (which is what a lot of people do including myself)

J. Gro

You're all famous to me! 🥰 I've had dreams about meeting various people from naddpod and D20 and totally geeking out.

Skeletal Cleric

Now they look down their nose and say "I played The Garden." it's crazy.

Ogliara

I'm happy that Cain is based on Pappa G from Bloodborne, because that is just how I've seen him this whole campaign

Ayn Like Ryan

Omg I was just listening to the council of elders when this got uploaded! Perfect timing

Elisha

That huge fight reminded me of playing an MMO and trying to let your high level friends power you through a dungeon. You somehow make it through being a body bag for your friend

Kenny Cashman

Jake schooled Brian on a barbarian ability. Our boy is all grown up :’)

Dana A

hi chet hanks (chets hanks? chet hanks'? chet hankses?)

Pamphleteer

Please confirm it was Travis "Chet Hanks" Helwig

Frank Mastromatteo IV

In response to the half-orc talk, With Custom Lineage from Tasha’s (I believe that’s the correct source) you can change/replace the ability scores from a given race

Josh

For emily the racial rules for any stat increase were actually released in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything! There’s an option for it on dnd beyond its just kinda hidden

Huw Williams

“I love it when you stretch me out” Tanner C. 2021.

Dave 3D Art

As others have said, custom options from Tasha's COE basically lets you throw racial modifers anywhere.

Molly Oxenfree

Came to say this and you are 100% correct!

Frank Mastromatteo IV

It’s honestly such a game changer. I ran into the same problem with wanting to be a half orc monk, but now I can change the strength bonus to dex :)

An_Armed_Bear

I had a feeling Caine's look was based on Papa Guacamole.

FiendishNoodles

If you have not already, I implore you to watch the channel 5 chet hanks interview. All their content is gold but that interview is truly art.

Leah S.

From what we know, Cain went with Mox because he thought that the Elder would open the gates if Saranisis (sorry I butchered that) was killed. Coming here he probably found out he was lied to by Mox, so I get why he would want to kill her. His goal was to let the spirits pass on, getting Saranisis the crown would do that.

Leah S.

Also, I think them being there, won that fight. Them taking as much damage as they did, probably let Cain outlast her.

Leah S.

Also also, Tasha's added rules to add whatever stats. If you use DnD beyond, you can turn on optional rules and trade out some racial stuff.

Nye-Low

Adventure Zone and NADDPOD mashup is too beautiful for this world

1man2hands

Who the fuck is Chet Hanks

Metagamer Shamer

Anyone else find it weird that Emily would act like she knew nothing about The Adventure Zone?

Katie Lackey

This was such a good short rest episode 😍

Scott

Some good news: the Guild of Fury Stans have assessed Jake’s remarks and have nothing further to add

Taylor

As someone who loves the McElroy brothers and NADDPOD, this absolutely got me snort laughing. Love it.

Cameron Davis

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the addition of Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything to 5e make it where you can take the racial bonuses to ability scores and switch them to whichever ability scores you please? Like a Tiefling’s +2, +1 could be applied to Strength and Con rather than Charisma and Intelligence.

Jolacks

My boyfriend always gets Caldwell and Griffin mixed up so the last bit killed me

Justine

39:27 "I've actually only listened to the Hexbuds arc..."

Morgan Monroe

Isn’t this the buzzfeed patreon?

Nat One Studio

That alone was a helluva ride! Just imagining filling in the mental details and references with no starting point

Bulbarat

I will now be calling the gravelly southern accent that causes people to trust someone "The Cobb Effect"

tacticalgrandma

This is the wildest swing of a “did anyone else think it was bad when [woman on actual play show does literally anything]” I’ve ever seen

tacticalgrandma

I love how uniquely powerful the great fairies feel- like Ulwen in his world of ice, vs. Leonora who might look more innocuous but makes these incredibly powerful tomes, vs. Callista who straight up is the sun on her plane. They all feel like such distinct, godlike beings.

Metagamer Shamer

I’m simply saying that it would be absolutely wild for anyone who has a professional D&D live play podcast to not have even heard of The Adventure Zone or Critical Role. They are the reason the genre exists. It would be like a Gothic horror writer saying they’ve never heard of Poe. @tacticalgrandma — it’s incredibly strange that you a making it as if this was an attack on her being a woman. It’s absolutely baseless and rude, frankly.

Julie V Eckert

I love hearing your irl stories, I would be absolutely hype & very shy to meet any of you 😂❤️

Julie V Eckert

I think it's fair to know that another popular thing in your genre/profession exists without knowing details on the story or characters

Ian Reilly

So I guess I'm going to the naddpod live show being guest dm'd by the guy from buzzfeed in January

Ian Reilly

I want sure until they mentioned his dad, Tom Hanks (I think he works at buzzfeed?)

Nick

Murph not knowing about Marvel stuff just blew my mind

J Harkins

Saw other people mentio the Tasha stuff but thought I'd mention Class Modifier Module by Gabriel Hicks a homebrew thing with mechanics for assigning ability points by class and background rather than race

Garrett Durham

Can’t forget about father gas coin the savior of the third mates
