i’m weighing in too late for this but i think the barbarian is at fault because they insisted the monkey was in their backpack. i may be misinterpreting it, but i understood it as the barbarian knew they were landing on the backpack (whether or not they decided to land that way), THEN the DM asked “where’s your monkey?”, and the barb just consistently said in the backpack. it sounds like the BARBARIAN wanted this thing dead for reals

LS

Did they at least clean the blood first

M

For the monkey question I bring forward the Paw Paw defense. How many times did Moonshine take falling damage? A few. How many of those times did Paw Paw take falling damage? None.

Kaidan C

I fully get the players not wanting to lose out on playing d&d, but I 100% wouldn’t be able to concentrate on DMing if someone was actively bleeding into a towel at the table

A Peeling STicker

This made my day haha more to listen to during my drive!

Frank Mastromatteo IV

The first aid trained listeners demand more information on the Case of the Bloody Foot and a retrial LOL

Gabrielle

Hi!!! As it so happens, I am the owner of the bloody foot in the first case. I can’t believe my ex sent in that story but I can confirm that the blood DID add to the ambience and that I have a scar to this day. I have a photo of my bloody towel that I like to look at every Halloween as a reminder :D

Abbie

this is incredible the court is honored by your presence and i have to ask are you still in a dnd campaign with your ex

Gabrielle

unfortunately not since we live in different places now but we are still friends!

Fox

The Shrub/Water elemental baby could be a Juice elemental!

Travis Hammer

In regards to a grappling monk, there is a feat that allows you to make grapple checks as a bonus action and add damage to a successful check. My benevolent dm granted me a magic item with battle Master abilities which gave me maneuvers for knocking enemies prone and grappling them. I also subclassed as a four elements monk which allowed me to do other pushing and pulling abilities and flavor him as an elemental monk specializing in 4 grappling styles. One of the most fun characters I have ever played.

Lucas

Crit Justice Emily has officially made it to my Spotify Top 5!

Ben Delahay

To the grappling monk take a look at the grappler feat!

David Hamet

If you have Extra Attack you can always use one of your attacks for a grapple.

Emilia

Murphy and Emily do not need to take the oath. They have already made one to each other.

Brendan Watroba

As Brennan just taught me on Rotating Heros, if you Grapple a prone enemy they cannot stand up as grapple reduces movement to 0 and it takes half your movement to stand up from Prone. So if the player wanted to mechanically Prone someone AND grapple them, that might be a bit much for one bonus action

Evan Cordero

Did your foot heal on its own or did you need a medical professional to look at your wounds from battle?

Evan Cordero

I applaud you for finding a way to make the four elements monk a fun class to play

Gabrielle

I probably should have made use of a doctor but I did not. instead, I slapped a huge bandage on the wound and could only wear boots for a month.

JigMink

Emily needs to play through the Banjo and Kazooie series or at least the first game. I can't believe no one addressed that she didn't know what they were. Possibly a good mixed bag topic.

H-Train

if my dm straight up killed my pc while i was GONE, id assume i was no longer welcome at the table/we weren’t friends anymore. that’s so petty and so weird and bad

Bulbarat

Honestly I would give my favorite D20 to have a full episode/service of D&D church.

Adam Bryan

Is there a spot where ill luck henry and the river song are posted where it's just the songs?

Jordan

A shrub producing some good berries? Frozen tundra? Rime of the Frostmaiden, anyone? 👀

Gotteswaise

when I got second degree burns as a barista, I kept making jokes and such to calm down people who were freaking out and just in shock or coping. It got to the point where my mom said "I like when you're hurt, you're funny then"

Nick Lerche

How does one "respectfully lose [ones] shit"? Lol .

Nick Lerche

Well then they should oppose athletics to become grappled and then on the next turn or available action they would oppose athletics again to prone them, and they would have to win an op athl check their next turn to get out of grapple to even get up, but as Murph said, not enough info about whether they had done damage at all which would mean they would have to continue the attack action and could not bonus action grapple unless they had a feat that allowed it. So we still don't know

ermine

Right? Even my dm who rolls before each attack to see who it targets doesn't go after PCs whose players are not present for the session. I feel like if they were concerned about fairness, they should have adjusted the encounter and excluded the warforged all together from the combat.

Jess Little

Duergar unarmed fighter with war caster does this pretty well! Bummed that restraining strike didn't become official, or else this build is busted. Either that, or do barbarian rogue with expertise in athletics, and have a wizard cast enlarge on you.

Jess Little

Luck point should be totally off the table. They should straight up still be alive, no questions asked.

Jess Little

Oh man, do tavern brawler on an unarmed fighter...so many dice

Austin Gallogly

I propose a Shark Tank variant of D&D Court where players/DMs pitch Homebrew rules, items, etc. for the Sharks to discuss and invest in.

Oniel Infante

Tavern Brawler Feat lets your wrestle people down. You can grapple with a bonus action after you hit with an unarmed attack.

Crits

This is brilliant

Mario Castellano

When we gonna see a 8 bit book club with Jake and finally finishing sonic in metal city once and for all?

Mario Castellano

Or a metal city one shot like the donkey Kong one shot with a return of boom box and his pole dancing gf

An_Armed_Bear

There is a really well made homebrew class called Pugilist that is basically a strength-based Monk that's more about being tough than nimble. One of their subclasses is called "Squared Circle" and is all about wrestling and grappling people, that might be something Murph or Emily like.

Lucas

No but Emily has a great album about love and the end of the world!

Jess Little

Ooh, Murphy being a saucy little city pigeon in this one! Moonshine: Has a possum that lives in her gigantic boobs. Murph: I'll allow it. Random player: I want a pet monkey. Murph: THIS PLAYER IS A PROBLEM!!!

Juli Reed

I’ve come around, Jake forgetting he took the oath proudly is just gonna get funnier every time.

Ganonbort

Yeah I think they should have dialed down the combat for the remaining players, which maybe they aren't experienced enough to do. In my campaign I've missed some sessions as our cleric and it will usually be played that i'll jump in for an emergency, but I'm not there over combat. I think I trust my fellow players to play my character and would be fine if I died due to the roll. But maybe I would wanna be contacted for the roll or be asked to do it myself. But definitely would deserve the luck point roll if I had died and the party forgot

Achillesnick

1) I'll take a Paw Paw over the new dumb books any day 2) people who take monkeys are always, and I mean always, going to try and be "zany and wacky"

Magestain

"conversation pit" set me off

Jordan

This would be great!!

Victoria Shotts

NADDPOD should make croc accessories 😮

Victoria Shotts

OMG YES, I just finished listening to all of 8 bit book club and I desperately want this!!! Anyone thinking of listening, please do so. It is SUPER interesting and got me into playing games that didn't necessarily appeal to me at first (Bioshock)

Tam Le

I love that more and more punishments are taking place in the same setting. So efficient!

Dawson Mudd

When Emily said don't bring Mudd in here that kinda hurt since I am Mudd

justdev

Great timing everyone

Bibbobbly

I absolutely love Emily’s “ya gotta try” mentality, haha

ConflictedDM

"Never leave down to a roll something that you really don't want to happen." -Murph. Fuckin Confusious Level

Grass

Irish goodbye to the hospital is suuuchhh a mood

faizaan723

Starting this episode off by ruling AGAINST the guy who stopped the game due to an injury is such insane funny energy that keeps up throughout this entire episode, I feel high

J Harkins

It's definitely weird to kill a pc when they're not there but more importantly why are you so committed to it? It's your story no one's making you continue with that having happened you can always change something, and should change something, if no ones happy with it

Travis Hammer

This validation will help me make it through the week, thank you fellow naddpole

Summer Tribe

now I feel bad for having suggested a punishment before ever having listened to an episode.

meeemster

To the dm that killed an absent player, how dare you sir? And to have done so without using all of their saves even? And a disintegration to boot?? You should be deeply ashamed.

Alex

So funny to see this comment on the day they just released the first Tortle Tank episode.

Alex

Amazing. There can't be many dnd players who can boast of getting an actual wound and scar during a session, making this truly the stuff of bard songs. Or at least worthy of a cool adventuring surname like Battleworn, Oftscarred, Hallowbane, etc.
