Cass DeMarco

Oh thank god this was uploaded so soon after

YourAnimeDad

February is uh... important yall... but in all seriousness that's the magic of the game at work

atlasrising

*SPOILERS* Jake should totally play one of the Kildé siblings! Maybe Calli and Sol reach out to Calder's family in the aftermath and one of the sibs is like "I'm gonna help you out when you get to the Frigid North to finish what Calder started and then you're gonna help me fuck up Ultrus"

Michelle Spurgeon

The disappointment is palpable. The fact that the story took this huge pivot makes the story so much more organic. Can't wait to see what new friend we meet and what new direction this story goes!

Blubread00

*SPOILERS* I know murph said the OG gang is dead but it would be so cool for duck team to stumble upon an old decrepit Hardwon who has managed to stay alive through the left over magic of the god heart and he goes on one last mission with duck team where he gets a final ending to his story where he sacrifices himself to save Calder.

BeanCurdHero

This turn is truly the heaviest of buds, a bud heavy if you will. Legit so excited to see where this all goes. Just one of the most intense and cool eps of the year for sure (but seriously, such a good ep)

Spencer W

Murph is right this had huge decapitating Galad energy

Ty Cameron

Bouquets of roses for the many powerful lines both Callie and Sol delivered as they laid Glen low

jackalope503

*Start of ep.30* Callie and Sol are walking despondently through the Living Wood when there is a sudden faint sound of a hammering forge echoing ethereally on the wind. A soft voice calls out to the pair as a squat ghostly figure steps out of the trees, "sweet as"

Chloe Peifly

did he ever say they were dead or just that they weren’t gonna be a huge part of c3?

Kyle Walleser

This was my thought also. Jake playing an almost exact replica of his previous character would be hilarious

k.allen

I have never been more happy to be a patreon than after that ep. Ya girl needed more

Nathaniel Walston

I'd love for Jake to play Glen, & go through a redemption arc

tacticalgrandma

I was just relistening to the Crick arc of the first campaign, and in the deck of many things draw that produced Balnor Jake chooses not to draw any cards. He does decide to pick one just to see what it would have been, though. He gets the worst card in the deck, the Void card, which would have trapped his soul in a demiplane guarded by a powerful being. Anyway I think this is the dice devil forcing Jake into the fate he tried to dodge.

Fia (but not Boginya)

I'm glad Murph is just as friggin stunned as the rest of us about what happened

Fia (but not Boginya)

Emily not being able to use the Fey Step was Lapin having Thunderstep all over again

munch lax

1 vote snap glens neck unceremoniously lol

EggBilly

Lol, so is this why we are doing three weeks of Trinyvale?

Ben Beckwith

Jake said that it would have gone better for him if he had failed the rolls. But oh no brother. Dice Christ knew, and it all worked out fantastically for the story. This epp felt so fresh because DC stired the pot.

Slippery Pete

Rose for Calders fear of puppets the previous episode and then becoming one this episode. Great story

Clayton Davis

Would love to see Jake play a low status Glenn if the next arc is saving Caldur.

AnxiousAmphibian

This episode was heartbreaking, gut busting and hair raising! I wonder if next week we'll have an episode dealing with the awkward lack of Caldur, or if Jake will make a temp PC a la Jevlin. I sort of hope we have a guest take his place for a little while, no hate to jake, abscence makes the heart fonder and all

Archimedes64

I understand that it doesn't justify anything, but didn't Glen lose his whole scout squad to an outside attack? They glossed over that tidbit real fast.

Vonvonvon

Omg! Just accidentally put the speed down and if you put it on half speed it sounds like they’re all drunk! You gotta try it lol

Tammie Foster

I think that was planned ahead of time! Caldwell said enjoy trinyvale right at the end. I think it was him acknowledging how shitty the timing was hahah

sawnnyM

There was a part of me that wondered if that was Glen himself who killed them. This sacrifice for the greater good etc. But I think probably not? But who knows

Thermovore

I get why players might not feel this way right in the shadow of the session, but holy shit did I love this turn off events. Really fun and fresh.

EggBilly

That's true. I would say it's perfect timing because that gives him 3 weeks to pivot lol

Tammie Foster

Except I think he was already busy 🤣🤣. Poor Murph.

tacticalgrandma

In the episode itself, Murph framed that as the turning point of Glen becoming a lot more militant and actively looking to overthrow Crick leadership rather than join it. Not glossed over, just part of his backstory arc.

Marianne

I had the same thought!!!

Marianne

You can adjust the speed on Patreon???

Vonvonvon

Yeah it’s a button at the bottom left Discovered it by accident

Andy

TPW. Total party womp

Marianne

I'm disappointed to hear y'all have lost interest in Glen. To me, this is the episode in which he *became* interesting. He seems primed for a redemption arc, which is my favorite kind of story.

Elizabeth Harris

I hope Callie goes winter Eladrin in honor of Calder. Also don’t need a dog; destroying the cursed helm be an amazing way to meet the legendary heroes in the astral plane!

Elizabeth Harris

I’m a sucker for a redemption arc too. I think it’d be cool for some “off screen” Glen internal development, and then coming together in the end to battle mothership, the ACTUAL big bad. Some struggles around whether they could trust him or not.

Elizabeth Harris

Also! I must add another rose for Emily’s music. Deadeye’s/Marabelle’s song had be bawling at the end of the ep.

hell

ok i checked comments on both eps so i gotta ask: isnt ultris trapped in the crick demiplane? can he even get out and get to the frigid north?

heavy harry

You can count on caldwell for 2 things, rolling twos and forgetting to use his items.

BigFred78

Why doesn’t Jake play as Glen?

Mariane Gendron

You guys talking about trapping a mean snowman in the helm. My listening while doing the dishes : "OLAF DIES IN FROZEN 2" 😂😂

Heckin Good

Ideally Jake plays Albi for a bit while the team works on a The Search for Calder™ quest. The idea of a player who isn't comfortable with or experienced at playing a caster would be the perfect iteration of Albi to me.

m. white

It *was* a heist, it was just less Ocean's Eleven and more Heat

華偉 曾

kinda reminds me of one of the court case where the player stop have interests in Herman because they reveal their stats, golden opportunity if you ask me.

Haley Anne

I want Jake to play a Crick elf. He has always had such a respect for it, I think he would do it justice. And that way murph doesn't keep having to do the bumpy voice

Hailee Henson

Emily is so valid ShootGlenOutOfABigCannon2k23

readingunderpressure

Emily wanting to kill Glen so that he’s not lame is the funniest shit ever.

DemonLordSparda

It's doubly disappointing because Emily multiple times indicated that because he isn't hot there's no more interest. Even further after remembering Cooter was there, she still mentioned killing him multiple times. Would Cooter just shrug and go "Oh well he was a jerk who cares?" Cali has been trying to grow as a person and killing someone because they lost their hotness is catapulting away from character growth. I want to believe she was joking, but she said it so many times.

Clayton Davis

Need to have Jake play as low status Glenn to start that redemption 😅

Z Carthy

Not sure what the trademark is but bloodhunter could be a very interesting fit for Jake 👀👀👀

tacticalgrandma

He’s been immensely manipulative, cruel, and disrespectful of Cali. Cali isn’t obligated to show him any kindness—and she’s already showed him an extraordinary amount. Understanding why Glen is the way he is isn’t the same as redeeming him. Especially not when we’ve seen many characters who’ve witnessed injustices and didn’t have supportive, loving communities, who didn’t go on to perform violent deadly coups. We understood why Thiala did what she did, no one quibbled that they were being mean or reverting character growth when they actually killed her. Also like making jokes about a shithead villain is what everyone on this show does all the time.

jimiibo

i think that cali not finding a cruel manipulative and ultimately empty young man (who she repeatedly wanted to believe had an ideology) hot any more, and is repulsed to the point of indifference at his death, is maybe not growth so much as a pretty honest reaction to that betrayal and disappointments. they lost calder, i dont know that the moments after a tragedy are the moments we show our growth the most yk

Allan Jacob

Bloodhunter would be cool, it is still intelligence based and has cool magic-like abilities. Murph use a blood hunter for an NPC during Campaign 2 so I don't think it would be a problem.

DemonLordSparda

Indifference were Glenn to die to something besides her and Sol would be fine. Actively desiring his death or csusing it without even having Cooter and his son talk would be bad. I suppose I am also a bit tired of them needing to talk about how hot everyone is in every single campaign. It's a mild bit of disappointment. Ultimately it isn't a big deal.

DemonLordSparda

Thiala didn't really give them a choice. It was incredibly clear she would never change and she had to die. Her former companions said as much. If Cooter and the Crick leadership teuly agree that they should kill him, that's good enough for me. It would just feel gross to kill him when he's clearly beaten and defenseless.

Zack Grunewald

Frankly I don’t even understand the “disappointment” (I know everyone is still having a good time together). This was incredible. I’m more invested after the events of this episode than at any point in the campaign so far. A scripted game or show would have had Glen achieving his goal to set up the next arc, but the dice are involved. Now it’s a story that is the result of what actually happened in the game. That’s the juice of what makes ttrpgs great. I’m pumped for the next arc, and how the players and Murph roll with it.

worm

This episode finally got me to join the Patreon. Long overdue. Y’all are consistently killing it

Martian

You blue-Glenn balled us Jake!

Darcy gibbons

Perfect opportunity now that the triplets are coming to Bahumia, Jake can DM and Jenz can join duck team

Keith Kelly

FWIW: The personal Shadow also contains unacknowledged, positive parts of your personality (which you also project onto others).

Leah S.

Jake DMs and Murph plays Glen.

Leah S.

Might team up with the inhospitable and they can use magic to get him out.

Nova

I’ve been relistening to C1 and literally just remet J’vlin. It’s so wild how often my relisten echoes C3! Can’t wait to meet Jake’s new Barbarian

Xanian Jamfalcon

The Ep blew me away. I love a big story swing. If yall aren't averse to 3rd party 5e stuff, Spheres5e is quite good and makes characters even more fun to build and play with all the choices and ways you can get silly.

Jay Gar

I *really* appreciate how much Murph let Dice Christ take the wheel the past few episodes. It must be pretty terrifying to see all your prep go up in flames after one crazy choice or a couple unexpected rolls but it is so satisfying as a listener for the unexpected to happen and the course of (fictional) history is changed just like that. That's really at the heart of D&D to me. There has to be a voice inside saying "no way, I have to find a way to get this story back on track, I'm tired and don't want all this prep to go to waste, I'm not sure how I'm going to find the creativity again to write a whole new scenario, etc". Thanks for having the courage to let the dice and players tell the story, Brian!

Vaelyhn

I'm not sure if Emily and Murph are aware but there is an additional Paladin feature from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything that allows you to use Channel Divinity to regain a spell slot with a lvl = to half your proficiency bonus rounded up.

ananarama

I wonder if Jake is going to be a crick or dragon elf now or someone completely different

Bodhi Milledge

If snow in the helm has any moisture, maybe Calder could use it to make a castle or a town given enough time.

belle

this was so sad/intense yet funny and sweet as always...as much as I wanna skip to the part where calder is saved, I'm so excited to see the journey duck team takes to get him back!!💖

Nicole Jordan

I know this didn’t go as planned but omg I’m so invested and it was amazing story telling! And Murph weaving in the dream Druid stuff and Cooter’s whole story was absolutely heartbreaking! I am praying this isn’t the end of Calder but am honestly super excited to see the backup character Jake brings! (Major Shadowfell arc energy!) Especially with having more DND experience now! I also think this is gonna be really meaningful to explore Sol and Callie’s grief. Roses all around! Thank you all for all the work you do and good luck with the rewriting process now (sorry you lost your notes Murph)

Nicole Jordan

Question- do we know what happened to Cooter’s wife/Glen’s mom? (The high elf?) I can’t remember

Estelle

Jake playing Glen to hunt down Ultris and make his redemption arc sacrificing himself to get Calder back would be *chefs kiss*

Lucas

really excited to see what new character Jake brings to the table! A mournful excitement of course

mentallo

Hope Jake plays a Warforged next!

Botchula

Definitely One of those episodes that throws you for a loop. Looking forward to see what the team comes up with going forward.

Tyler Sharp

Is Calliope winter form now?

Gearbox

Murph fell to one of the classic blunders, assuming that his overwhelming force would knock out the party irrecoverably.

Gearbox

Also personally I think this plot is way more interesting than the alternative if everything went to Murph's plan. Like Jake said if Ultris just hung around he might be another Pentergreens, but having his buildup continue to payoff is so rad!

Lia

I really oddly like the idea of putting a dog in the helm, and maybe somehow the magic reacts differently, plant life grows, and over time the one who visits builds a nice cozy cottage for the dog and person to rest in and the world becomes more hospitable for them.

Sam K

*Spoiler* Jake should play a descendant of Old Cobb

Caleb Farley

I just finished the episode and short rest and HOLY SHIT I LOVED IT. Obviously

Saru

Really appreciate how much Murph is letting the dice and players influence the story. Like fully going with Emily's idea to kill the ancient blue dragon and letting Calder sacrifice himself for Sol. As a fellow DM I know how much prep he is throwing out of the window for that but damn the story they're telling with this is so cool.

Exclusively for Murph, my bud just compared Caulder to Jake Hager. "I LIKE THIS HELM!"

Hammy-Beverly's Distant Cousin

Might be weird but I want Jake to play Glenn and it becomes a new save, I mean I feel like Calder will be stuck a long time and Ultrus will be like an end campaign villain.

Paul Westmore

Jake should play whatever he wants to... but a fighter/druid mix that is an old elf from the old folks circle would be awesome, going with the party to set things right and truly unite the elves against Ultriss. Just a fiery kick-ass druid that fights with bear claws (as unarmed) and a fire elemental..... sheesh! While also giving the fan service of finally seeing Jake fully embody a crick elf as we all know the Cricks are where Hardwon's heart lived... or maybe even a half-elf descendent of the Surefoot himself, a hot-headed newbie on the old folks circle at just 180 years old, would love to see it, but no matter what, it will be amazing I am sure.... hated it all, but fucking great story, can't wait to see what you all do next time! https://ddb.ac/characters/93679371/JIX0tD (dnd beyond character idea)

Michael

Jake playing glenn and joining them is so funny

Dan

Jake should play foster

Cyborg Version of Josh the Kobold

I agree. I had a hunch that this is what it would be. I don't think it would be right for Jake to take over an NPC like many here are suggesting, and since they're at the Crick, it just makes sense.

Dag Swaniels

Maybe Jake could play as one of the old folks?

Alice S

This is the best answer

Rintoul

I want Jake to play as ol Cobb's son/ Prodigy

Squishy, Pawpaw's Brushtail Possum lover

I loved the bioshock mention. I bought the game immediately after listening to the 8bit book club episode. Absolutely loved the first 2 games.

Marlon Skutnik

Spaceman sounds an awful lot like starspawn

BillBowTho

I loved this episode 😁 it made me get patreon

A Tiny Living Room

I'm a bit late, but it would be neat to see some third party classes if Jake is still looking. I think he'd enjoy Warlord from KibblesTasty.

Goodspot

Classic Jake, get his body to turn into a vampire, now taken over by a giant monster, and both times needing his ass saved 😄

Cynthia Vu

It's honestly SO cool and such good storytelling that things happened in this unexpected way, because the result is truly one of my favorite episodes of naddpod... when we were getting close to the end I was envisioning everything like scenes out of an anime it was awesome!!!

Rachael Sainato

I’m listening to this way after whatever happens next is going to happen but when I tell you that I DESPERATELY need Jake to play MawMaw…it’s the perfect full circle of the first person he ever pledged himself to in a campaign where that’s all he’s done. (Not actually, everyone is doing a great job and you’re all amazing) But like, Right?

Mighty Turtle

Glenn and Ultris are such great villains but who also feel like very real people irl, who I absolutely know exist and that I truly despise...

Nova

I’m asking once again: resident evil mixed bag when???! 🧟‍♂️

TallishCard643

Listening again and realizing calder did the megumi from jjk

Hoid

Excellent reference fr

Hoid

Listening this C3 for the first time wow what a crazy ep loved how brutal these consequences were and I had no idea this happened to Calder tragically excited to see who he plays now ❤️❤️❤️

zarratm

Glenn “I said nobody dies” forces his father into killing MawMaw

Fxd Gear Queer

I immediately went to his repeated advice in Dungeon Court: if you want something to be a cutscene, make a cutscene. Don't make something the players can fuck up. Not complaining about the result or the story we got, thisbwas great.

PAWGliacci

Dog if this is a real spoiler then what the fuck, why.

zarratm

It happens in the episode this is the short rest for?

PAWGliacci

I just re-listened, I see that you were talking about the attempted murder of mawmaw, I thought she actually died in a future episode and you were referencing that, im sorry 😭😭

Cody Zimmer

Soooooo, how did you like where it when from this episode?

Lindsay S

Glenn is like that because he knows who his daddy is
