MagicCon Amsterdam, Day 3 (Patreon)
Content
For my last day at MagicCon Amsterdam, I don't know if I have a lot to share. Around 11am I met up with a couple readers who reached out to me that they couldn't meet on Saturday. A few other people then saw me signing stuff, and it turned into a mini Meet & Greet for the next hour or so. Afterward, I went to Ben Batemen's "Pack It Up!" live show for a little while to see what that was about. He had Mark Rosewater and The Professor as guests, and the banter was pretty fun. I spent the rest of the day playing Commander or Dandân, or meeting up with people I wanted to make sure I said hi to before the weekend ended. I also checked out the artist area a bit. There weren't any signatures I particularly wanted, but it's always interesting for me to do research on new signature techniques artists are using, what kinds of pens people are using, and what products seem to be selling well. Of course I also had to take more pictures.
Oh, I guess there was one funny story I forget to mention from Saturday. Since I wasn't allowed to sell anything at my Meet & Greet, I had two sample books for people to look at, in case they weren't familiar with my comics. Anyway, I was having a nice conversation with a group of people, and I looked to my left to discover one of the books was missing. Someone apparently took a book! I had a big sign taped on each book that said "sample book, take a look!" so I don't think it was very subtle. Oh well, hopefully whoever it was will thoroughly read the book and become a big fan in the future. Maybe they'll even join this Patreon some day!
In the end, I was never able to find The Professor and give him his comic. Honestly, I probably could have messaged him and arranged something, but I thought it would be more fun to surprise him. Plus he's so crazy busy, I didn't want to take up too much of his time. Talking with a few people, it sounds like he's gotten so big that he basically can't walk on the show floor anymore. It's too disruptive to the convention. He just gets swept in and out for whatever events he's participating in and then has to hide the rest of the time. Honestly, that sounds pretty miserable to me, so I kind of feel bad for him.
So that's pretty much my MagicCon. It was a great weekend. If you get the chance to attend one of these, I cannot recommend it enough. I said this a few times over the weekend, so sorry if I'm repeating myself. But attending these MagicCon's is so reaffirming. There is so much negativity in the world, especially online, which can be pretty draining. I especially worry about it seeping into my comics. Events like this really helps renormalize things. I met so many awesome people from all different background and walks of life, and they were all so excited about Magic. Hopefully I can carry this energy until I'm lucky enough to attend another MagicCon!
Later this week, I should post about one of my favorite museums in the world, the STRAAT museum. I should also draw more comics. Coming soon!
