As I warned the other day, I found an online Shandalar game here https://premodernbsb.com/shandalar/ so of course I've been grinding! When you start, you can choose what color you want to focus on. But that doesn't mean you'll get playable spells or even sufficient lands in the colors you need for your deck! I of course started with blue. I don't know if I just didn't have enough creature interaction or if it's because I chose the hardest level, but I was getting my butt kicked. It's especially bad when you play for ante, because the more you lose, the more your deck is depleted and gets even worse. So I started over with red as my main color (although again you gets cards from all five colors). But I started winning a bunch of good black cards. After about an hour and a half, here was my deck:

Note that I have to play the Underground Sea because I don't have enough Swamps, lol. Paralyze is especially strong, it's basically the black Swords to Plowshares. Probably going to play a little more tonight. Would love to get some Strip Mines and Sinkholes. Those are fun cards, right?

Paralyze is one of my favourite old commons. It's so much more powerful than people expect. I also love the uncommon Telekinesis. Especially in the masters edition drafts. Phantom Monsters and Telekinesis <3

I know I was save scumming back in the day. Also the AI cheats. According to a game magazine I read back then, a mono red deck pulled out a Disenchant after getting hit with Conversion.

Contract from Below just made black decks the best :D I absolutely hated to fight the blue mage with Power Struggle permanently in effect in the whole dungeon.
