How often do you feel like you're buying Magic things because you think they'll be a "good investment"? The funny thing for me is that the few times I've bought things because I thought they might go up in price, I'm usually wrong. But when I just buy what I actually want for my decks or what I generally think is cool, those are the things that end up going up in price. Come to think of it, that's probably because other players want them too, lol!

I feel like we had a conversation about this on one of your comics earlier this year, but I can't find the original post. I'd mentioned that for me, every time I bought a card for investment at market price (instead of my store's buy price), I'd been wrong and lost money. Buying cards you want to play with is absolutely the best way to go. An addition to that, the current card I'm paying market value on is Entity Tracker, as a blue Enchantress with Flash just seems insane to me. It's at bulk, so I'm not exactly taking the biggest risk on it, but if they keep reprinting it in Commander product, which they may well do, it's not going anywhere.

I often buy a card in a fancy treatment or in old borders instead of a newer cheaper reprint with the excuse that I can always sell it in the future for equal or higher. I never end up selling so not the best investment…

Makes sense. Players know a good card when they see it.

Rudy only invest in sealed products, and in his last video, he said the recommended hold time is 5 years.

I think we probably did have this conversation before for a comic about a similar topic. I’m getting old and forgetful!

Haha, yeah, I justify it like this but never sell either.

It was interesting to see that they’re reprinting the warhammer commander decks. I never expected that. It would be interesting if this became more common practice.
