Whiterose more than slapped Phillip Price's hand by blowing up all of ECorps buildings. Elliot was trying to get all the records sent to one building, and he had it set up to do that, but someone knew and alerted the dark army through Irving, either Angela or Tyrell. Neither of whom is playing with a full deck.

They bought a 6 month license for the 10th anniversary of the show. It is on Tubi. I just watched an episode on there just to see if it is the same. Tubi is free. I didn't even register.

A cool detail to catch is that the actress who plays young Angela in this episode is the same little girl who was reading the questions from the computer to Angel at the end of season 2.

So, I do this kind of thing for a living (I write software to automate datacentres, it's a super niche part of tech so I sometimes feel targeted by this show, lol) so I can explain, and you did ask - When Eliot starts working for E Corp he patches the UPS firmware so they can only be updated with cryptographically signed code (it attests that the code was written by who is supposed to write it, i.e. E Corp). The plan of Tyrell is to replace the firmware with their bad firmware that makes the batteries bleed out hydrogen, creating an explosive atmosphere (this is kinda a real thing and why ventilation exists - they were going to make it worse and also disable the ventilation). What they do in the last episode is they get Angela to copy the signing keys from the HSM - this isn't technically a thing IRL, HSMs do not allow exporting keys, that's the whole point and why they're hardware, they make the chips structurally weak so if you try to de-lid and probe them they fall apart and all sorts of things to keep the keys secure and you certainly can't just copy them, because as the show demonstrates the risk is immense; it's one of the few times the show takes a bit of a liberty with technical accuracy - the way to do this correctly would be to have Angela use the HSM to sign the bad firmware directly, without ever exporting the keys, but.. Anyway, say that's possible, they sign their bad firmware with the keys they stole from the HSM, now the UPS will accept it as valid firmware from E Corp. They then upload it to the UPSs and the batteries start leaking hydrogen. What's different between what Mr Robot thinks is happening is he thinks they're just blowing up that one building - but presumably they did this at many E Corp sites, and possibly not just UPS batteries but other vulnerable equipment too.

The moment Elliot and Mr. Robot team up and prevent the batteries from exploding is such an amazing moment. I LOVE Elliot’s little stare into camera (at us) when he says “*WE* did it!” The music is SO perfect for that scene. It’s so hopeful and triumphant… then — Oh, Wait!! This is “Mr. Robot” we’re watching. 🫣 Rami killed it this episode. The camera focused on him as he starts welling with tears, at what he is seeing on the news, breaks my heart every time!! 🥺

This is a great analysis and way to explain it though I would add that most modern HSMs have the ability to clone partitions (Thales/Luna use PED keys, little USBs made during setup) for transfer to new machines.

When Angela’s mom said they would always be together, what if Angela has a Mr robot of her own? What if she has 2 personalities like Elliot and her mom is essentially Mr robot for her? I’m behind so I’m not sure if I’m way off or if it’s been revealed yet but I’m super curious now!!
