This movie was done by Frank Darabont, who did the Green Mile and the first season of the Walking Dead. Hence the prosecutor of Andy at the beginning was Jeffery DeMunn, who was Dale in TWD.

I'm so excited to watch your reaction to this epic movie guys I could burst . Christmas has come early , love u guys thankyou for doing this movie it's my favourite film of all time 🔥🎉

Shawshank and Green Mile are brilliant films. But then Frank ruined a perfect Stephen King trifecta, by doing THE MIST. 😂

Jeff K.

Frank has also directed a couple episodes for Stranger Things season 5 (he did episode 5x3, and he's got one more he's doing in Volume 2).

Yeeeeeessssssss!!! Thank you for this. Haven’t rewatched this in a while and haven’t been this excited for a reaction in a long time.

If you guys wanna see Clancy Brown even younger (in probably his most iconic performance) you should get to "Highlander" (1986) sometime :-)

Dallas Adams

Fun Fact: Tom Hanks turned down the role of Andy Dufresne so he could do Forrest Gump Also, the Warden was the main villain in Ace Ventura 2 (The interrogation while Ace is pushing on his eyeball is always great)

There are many beautiful things about this movie, but the biggest underlying theme is Hope. Andy always had it and believed in it, especially since he knew he was innocent. Brooks didn't have any hope that things would get better, hence his outcome. Red didn't believe he had any hope either and Andy noticed it. Andy gave him hope which kept him going. Just incredible story writing. Thank you Stephen King & Frank Darabont.

The iconic prison used for filming The Shawshank Redemption is the real-life Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, now a historic museum open for tours, where visitors can explore the iconic cell blocks and grounds

I haven't seen this for a long time, and I was in tears. So uplifting. I saw it back in the 90s, and then once since but I forgot a lot. The hope theme is incredible, especially how it kept Andy going all those years. I really needed that message tonight. I have gone through something for several years and I am nearing the end where it will be over (chronic illness followed by a few complications.) I am now having to redo my driver's license because I couldn't renew it due to not being able to drive at the time. I am getting close, but i have had so many setbacks both physically and logistically jumping through hoops to get approved for a license again. I am taking lessons just to make sure I can still parallel park, etc. I am so close which is a miracle in and of itself as I was bedridden for almost 3 years. I have been on the mend for the past year. I was about to get discouraged again with another setback, but the reminder of hope in this movie is another thing that can help me get out of my prison of being stuck living in a place hundreds of miles from family for the past 6 years. I will be taking my test soon. I also loved Andy's plan with the money. Morgan Freeman is such a great story teller, and I am grateful that he could actually enjoy freedom on the outside.

Frank Darabont directed this! along with The Green Mile and The Mist and Episode 3 of Season 5 of Stranger Things The Turnbow Trap.

And Forrest Gump won the Oscar for Best Picture over Shawshank.

MattyB207

Red arrived at Shawshank in 1927. Andy was in from 1947 until his escape in 1966. Then Red got paroled a year later in 1967.

MattyB207

The mugshots of young Red that are attached to his parole papers are actually pictures of Morgan Freeman's younger son, Alfonso Freeman.

During the movie, Andy asks Red why he's called Red. Red retorts "Maybe it's because I'm Irish." This was an inside-joke as in the novel by Stephen King, Red was a red-haired Irishman.

Jennyjoy

And then Forrest Gump beat out Shawshank for best picture of the Oscars. (I think Shawshank should have won it)

Red Walkowitz

Tim Robbins did a comedy with Martin Lawrence called nothing to lose. You're welcome lol

Jeff K.

The actor who plays Boggs, the leader of the Sisters, does a lot of video game voice work. Steven, if you ever play the Fallout 4 DLC Nuka-World (even on your own, and not streaming), he voices a character called Porter Gage in that. He’s also the voice of Norman Osborn on the Marvel’s Spider-Man games.

Travis Lee

This movie was like a great magic trick. Andy is the magician who performs a trick that no one can figure out. Then the trick is revealed.

Travis Lee

So many right-wing idiots would complain about that today.

Travis Lee

no way! that is pretty cool

Travis Lee

Their favorite movie to watch...The Mist!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO

Travis Lee

Honestly a move we all thank Tom for. I think each movie has cemented their legendary status.
