SEE WHY WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE YOU SAW THIS?!? Even though I don't have hayfever, I somehow get a pollen attack :) 90 times out of 100 when I watch this--even the reactions! LOLOLOL One day I will tell writer Mark Gatiss (Mycroft!) this!

Scott Sandler

David Bradley you’ll recognize from Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. Brian Cox makes this a wonderful episode of Succession, and a new version released for the 60th anniversary replaced Matt Smith with Ncuti Gatwa, essentially bringing to life the vision of changing Doctors for the scene, but maintaining the original version’s shelf life.

Todd Burroughs

P.S. You saw that annual (book) that The First Doctor was holding? I own the 2024, 2025 and 2026 Doctor Who annuals! They star Ncuti! The tradition continues! And I'm sure by now you've guessed that the actor playing William Hartnell is David Bradley--Filch from the Harry Potter movies and a real nasty guy from Game of Thrones (if you've seen that drama, I'll let you look that up)! The actress who plays Verity we've seen before: the scientist in "Hide" : FROM AI: "Jessica Raine played the psychic Emma Grayling in the 2013 Doctor Who episode 'Hide'....Appeared in the Series 7 episode 'Hide' alongside the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and Clara Oswald, playing a psychic and former wartime operative aiding an investigation into a haunted mansion." Verity's director you will see again, but not for while....

Reel Reaction

Reel Reaction

Thanks for watching this! It gives great context to new-who viewers about the shows history. I was only 15 when this came out in 2013, so had very little knowledge like yourself about classic who. That scene with Matt took me out as well, beautifully added to show how far the show has come in 50 years!

What a treat. Something a bit different but still fantastic. I can't see that anyone has commented this yet so I will. In the two-parter episodes called "Human Nature" and "The Family of Blood" the doctor hides his Time Lord self in a pocket watch and becomes the human, John Smith. As John Smith is talking about his upbringing he mentions his parents Sydney and Verity. This is a nod to the Doctor Who co-creator Sydney Newman and producer Verity Lambert. I thought I'd point it out here now you have seen the origin of Doctor Who. I'd forgotten that Matt makes an appearance at the end and it caught me off-guard. Needed to reach for the tissues. 🥲 Sniff sniff. A belter of an episode next week, too. Very exciting!

Reel Reaction

Ohhhhh it was them!!!! Sydney and Verity. Oh I cant wait to rewatch from the begining. There's so much I probably didn't catch or understand, have a different point of view. This episode was splendid! 💙 thank you for reminding me of that episode Max!! 😘

Reel Reaction

The fact that this show almost never happened makes me love it even more. There's so much history there!

I own a few annuals. I love all of them but the 2013 one is my favorite.

I'm so glad you liked this movie. I watched it when I was watching Classic Who. I feel that David Bradley was great as William Hartnell. Hope you're still enjoying everything :)

I was five years old (nearly six!) when Doctor Who started and, although I am sure I was in the room with my parents when the first episode was broadcast, I have no definite memory of it. I have seen episode one so many times since though that I sometimes convince myself that I have. I certainly watched the episodes that followed though because I remember beign scared of the stone age people. I can't have been following the plot at all because when I saw a lot of straggly haired people shouting and screaming and the Doctor, Susan, Ian and Barbara, I asked my mother if they were witches. And she had to explain that they were cave men and women. I do remember first seeing the Daleks, the Marco Polo story and the strange insect-like people on the Web Planet. And I well remember seeing William Hartnell turn into Patrick Troughton. It was a very quiet non-explosive transition. Just a close-up of a face turning into another one via a series of stills. The reason given was just that "this old body is wearing a bit thin" as the Doctor said as he walked back to the Tardis. Susan leaving traumatised me as she was the nearest to my age. Not the actress, she was older than her character and already had a child of her own when the series started. And even the character was quite a bit older than I was. But I couldn't understand why she was leaving and it took me ages to accept Vicky, who joined the crew soon afterwards. Yes, I am very old. Well, 68, since you ask. The same age as Peter Capaldi. And older than Bill Hartnell was when he left the show. Astonishingly, he was only 55 when it started and 58 when he left.

Reel Reaction

Wow I wish I could have experienced watching the first episide when it aired. Now I cant wait to see those cavemen hahaha And you're not that old!!! As teenagers we think 40 is the end of the world but then you get there and no one feels old 🤣
