It was actually good!!! I cant wait to dig a little more into blaxploitation movies. Nothing better than to start with a little horror!!

Todd Burroughs

I'm an older GenXer (born in 1968), so i grew up on Blaxploitation films, on TV in the '70s and later on VHS video in the '80s. I didn't know what I know now: that this movie could be viewed as the Black "answer" film to the Hammer Dracula films starring Christopher Lee that dominated the late '60s-early '70s! Interesting that Lee's last film, "Dracula AD '72," also put the Count in a "mod" environment! If you Wiki/AI "Blacula," you will find some interesting facts about how the Black cast had to, um, fix some important things in the script! LOLOLOL

Blackula got the idea of a sympathetic vampire seeking his lost love in a modern reincarnation from the TV supernatural soap opera Dark Shadows (1966-1971). After Dark Shadows and Blakula, we begin to get Dracula movies with the same romantic theme. Now that I have brought up the subject of my favorite show of all time, I want to recommend the 12-episode 1991 remake of Dark Shadows available for free on YouTube. It’s a gothic romance with a vampire, witchcraft, ghosts, romance, and time travel, if you like that sort of thing.
