Dracula vs King Arthur: Adventure & Sacrifice (Page 15) (Patreon)
Content
The call to duty is a powerful one in fantasy adventure stories. Some characters wrestle with it and try to avoid their destiny. Arthur, who has gone on quests before, doesn't hide from the call, but is weary nonetheless. As for Guinevere, his wife and queen, she knows it will mean countless nights left alone -- pining for his return. What will fill the void during his absence?
Artist Chris Moreno really did a great job conveying Arthur's sense of purpose and Guinevere's feeling of dread. He only had three panels to help give us insight into their entire relationship. And even if we were to take away the word balloons you would still get the idea: She doesn't want him to go, but he knows he must.
Next time you're reading a comic ask yourself that question: Without the words do I still know what the story is? If so, then the writers and artists are doing their job.
